Event Guide: French Brass Band, Elvis Presley, Phoenix Park Race, Forty Foot Swim
Hi all!
This weekend is surprisingly quiet, sure there are events, but it seems as if the energy of previous weeks is gone a little.
On Sunday the Temple Bar Diversions Festival shows
La Fanfare Jo Bithume (France) 2pm & 3.45pm (60m)
This chic and crazy street brass band is a cross between a village orchestra, a philharmonic orchestra and a Dixieland Jazz Band. Come see this amazing 18 piece spectacle as they march through the streets in search of an audience!
Now with not tooo many other things on, you have time to prepare yourself for your attendance of “The Elvis Presley Story” in the Tivoli Theatre (13/08 – 25/08). Have you booked your tickets? In the unlikely case that you are still undecided, check this out again:
www.elvisthewayitwas.com and you can book the tickets on
www.ticketmaster.ie/artist/956347
Elvis Presley died on the 16th of August and we will be on RTE Radio that morning in the Gerry Ryan show (this week hosted by Marty Wheelan). At some stage after 11:00 you can hear us and get confirmation that booking these tickets was the absolutely right decision! ;-)))
Back to the normal program:
An interesting event on this weekend is the Phoenix Park Races on Saturday and Sunday. www.phoenixparkmotorraces.org is a fancy website but it is difficult to find the relevant information. Some of the attractions are described here www.formulalibreireland.com/phoenix_park.pdf and the timetable is here www.phoenixparkmotorraces.org/timetable.html. The event is free and sounds very interesting and “different”! ;-)
In the Hilton Hotel on Charlemont Street will be an Antiques Fair this Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00. There is an entrance charge (EUR 3) so I won’t give them too much space here!

In Smithfield there is another Saturday of the Smithfield Summer Market. The organisers claim it will be “the biggest open air market Dublin has ever seen”. Hmmmm, I was there last week and I agree with them. …BUT, I think the “will be” refers to the Smithfield Summer Market in 2010, not this years. I think it is great what they have done because it needs to start as an acorn before it can grow into an oak tree, but it IS only an acorn this year. ;-) Still if you are in the area, go there for a few minutes. Only if people are seen to go to it, it will get a chance to grow.
By the way, the Bray Air Show that was meant to be on last weekend was postponed due to the rain, it will now be on the 2nd of September.
Sunday 12th August 2007 – A Sponsored Swim will take place at the Forty Foot, Sandycove in support of the Art & Cultural Society of the Deaf. Registration from 11 AM and official start at 12 noon. Refreshments & Safety boats provided. Many great prizes to be won. Admission €15.00 at the door. Contact John Paul Monaghan at acsirl@eircom.net or on Mobile: 087-2494424 for further details.
Enjoy the weekend,
–Joerg

Disclaimer: This Event Guide is sent to friends and colleagues of mine to lot you know about events (usually free!) in the Greater Dublin Area. I started this because some friends asked me to share my weekend plans with them as I went to all types of festivals and searched for more. ;-) If u don’t want to receive this mail, just let me know. If you have feedback, good or bad, PLEASE tell me. BTW: I have no affiliation with any of the organisers and don’t get any reward from them for advertising their events.
