———————————————————————
Hi all!
What an eventful week! And with this I am not referring to all the interesting free events, but more to the political/economic news over the last week. We all have our opinion about the EU/IMF take over of economic policy and of the outgoing government’s last gasps of 4-year plan and the budget on 07 Dec. Many people are outraged and I know some who were very upset about the 4-year plan. Yes, it hits some people harder than others, but I think we are still doing relatively well and it could be a LOT tougher. Maybe we have to look for solutions (even inconvenient ones) instead of spending all the energy we have on feeling upset? I know for some that is a lot easier said than done. But if you need help, send me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the subject HALF FULL. ;-)
[ad]
As far as events are concerned, the end of the year is approaching and apart from Christmas markets, there will be slightly less happening now in the coming weeks until Christmas. Nevertheless, I found a few interesting things for you and I hope you are not bored. ;-)
Did I mention before that I might organise a “Event Guide Party” for the 04 December? I haven’t put any details to that plan yet, but I can tell you that much: We will meet on the Sat evening at 20:00 in a place in the City Centre for a get-together and for meeting up with lots of other people. All details will follow, but it would help me with the planning if you let me know if you are coming. Please send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with MEETUP in the subject line if you plan to meet lots of other Event Guide subscribers. Last time we were 100 people and we had a BRILLIANT evening. ;-)

With sooo much negativity around us, I think we need a proper uplift this week. And what is better than reminding ourselves of truths that we know are correct, but w choose to forget them every now and then. Combine it with some good music and this is this week’s “Feel Good Slot” video clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUWGBQsnz-I

Heeeeelllloooo!! Are you still out there? Or did everybody run away? ;-) I feel a little deserted and dejected if not a single soul considers donating a little to keep the Event Guide on the road! Every bit of help is very much appreciated. It is really easy to make me smile! And one way is to donate here: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm :-)
This newsletter is a spare-time activity of mine for which I am not paid. It is not a commercial project and if you like it, you are invited to help with a donation. You can donate as much as you want or can, but if you need some guidance, maybe consider just ONE Euro per month or – to make it more practical – a donation of 12 Euro per year (that is just 25 cent per newsletter). Where else can you get such a vast amount of useful information for just 25 cent. ;-) You can donate any amount you wish to help with or – as an option – you can now chose a yearly “subscription” on www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm
Instead whereby a 12 Euro donation will automatically be carried out every year.
You can donate using PayPal or your credit card by following this link to the PayPal donation page www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm If you want to transfer money to my bank, just drop me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

______Joerg’s Picks______________
This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will/might or would do. This is not a “best of…” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down.

Taxback.com is offering a free 4 year tax refund assessment to all Dublin Event Guide Subscribers. If you answer “YES” to any of the questions below you could be looking at a nice lump sum from the Revenue Commissioners: Did you…
…work part-time or full-time? …pay your GP or dentist? …rent property in the last 4 years? …pay tuition fees? …pay bin charges? …been on maternity leave?

This week I will probably go to the Temple Bar Food Market, the Ha’Penny Flea Market and maybe the Tower Record Birthday Party on Saturday. Then maybe the Dublin Flea Market on Sunday. Apart from that I have the pleasure to be invited to two parties of wonderful friends on Saturday evening. And on Sunday I might just take the day off. ;-)
During the week I have a number of training commitments AND (slightly contradictory) I need to give my back a rest, because it is better but not fully back in good shape. So, it will be a relatively quiet week as far as Events are concerned. So, for a change I will let you pick your own events during the week. ;-)

In addition you have to tell me for which event you would like to win tickets and if you number them 1) + 2), I will try to consider your preference. SCENT OF CHOCOLATE – POLISH THEATRE IRELAND
Polish Theatre Ireland production “Scent of Chocolate” returns to the Focus Theatre (6 Pembroke Place, Off Pembroke Street, Dublin 2) following successful sell-out shows in September. The lovely people from Polish Theatre Ireland have made a pair of tickets available and to win you need to send a mail to dublineventguide@gmial.com with MISZA in the subject line and with your name and mobile phone number in the body of the mail. ______Dublin News______________
CHRISTMAS MARKETS – CITY CENTRE
Next Friday (03 Dec) the Christmas Festivities will kick off with a vengeance. Originally it was three, now there are still two (see news about the Point Village Market) proper Christmas Markets taking place in Dublin. To prepare you for it, I want to tell you about them:
+ Docklands Christmas Market
Established and still brand new! This year’s Docklands Christmas Market in the IFSC, next to the chq Building will take place in the 4th or 5th year, but this year ALL will be different. In previous years, it was a home made Christmas Market. Not bad, but with many shortfalls. This year the market will be an authentic German Christmas Market and if I understand it right, many of the 100 traders will be “imported” from Germany. It has nothing to do with the people that are imported to help with the economy, I am assured. ;-) Being totally biased, I expect (and hope) that we will see this year a PROPER Christmas Market in Dublin. :-) The market will run from 03-22 December and Opening hours are Mon-Thurs 12:00-20:30, Fri 12:00-21:30, Sat 11:00-22:00, Sun 11:00-20:00. www.ddda.ie/index.jsp?p=94&n=105&a=1794
+ Fitzwilliam Christmas Market
For the first year, a second Christmas Market will take place on Fitzwilliam Square, the private square in Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2, not too far from Merrion Square. 70 stalls will make up this new and promising Christmas Market. It will run from 03-23 December and Opening hours are Mon-Thurs 12:00-20:00, Fri 12:00-21:00 and Sat-Sun 10:00-21:00. www.dublinchristmasmarket.com
+ Shorter Markets
A few shorter Weekend Markets will pop up in different parts of the City Centre. The Temple Bar Chocolate Festival will take from 03-05 Dec, a Christmas Market at the Belvedere College will take place on 04-05 Dec and there will be Christmas related “Fun Days” on 08 Dec and on the weekends 4+5 and 11+12 Dec. In addition Farmleigh House in Phoenix Park will have Christmas Events on 4-5, 11+12, 18+19 Dec. I will tell you more about all these events in the coming weeks.
POINT VILLAGE MARKET – NOT A SUCCESS!?
Had you checked www.pointvillagemarket.ie last week, you would have found the announcement that the Point Village Market will have a daily Christmas Market from the beginning of December. If you check now, you will see an announcement that says “The Point Village Market is closed for winter from Saturday 20th November 2010 until spring 2011.” :-O Can that be interpreted as a clear indication that the project “Point Village Market” failed or is close to it? The idea was good (and I was out there at least 4 times), but the location is totally unsuitable – it is just too far away from the City Centre.
As an aside, I wonder what that means for the Dublin Big Wheel next to the Point Village. The Point Village Market at least brought SOME visitors to that remote corner of Dublin at the weekend, but if the market is gone, then the Wheel – which has already lowered prices due to lack of customers – will get even less business.

For more information about the whole initiative check www.dublincity.ie/YOURCOUNCIL/Pages/Yourdublinyourvoice.aspx
———Opportunities—————–
In order to beat an economic downturn not governments can help, but individuals are needed that take the initiative and to create new markets and new opportunities for themselves and for their customers and hopefully employees. The banks don’t help anymore, the government doesn’t want to help, so we have to help ourselves! The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) will help you if you have recently started a company and if you could do with spreading the word. I hope being mentioned here and being seen by the 7000+ readers of the Event Guide will kick start something big for you. In return I expect you to tell your clients and friends about the Event Guide and once you have made a nice bit of money, a donation would be very appreciated. ;-) (This offer is for start-ups in relatively early stages only. Established companies can contact me regarding very affordable advertisement options in the Dublin Event Guide.) If you want to promote your start-up/young company here for free, let me know: dublineventguide@gmail.com.
More to come! New companies that will be mentioned here soon are a Car Sharing Scheme and a Nutritionist. Watch this space.
PERFECTGIFT.IE – NEW GIFT VOUCHER BUSINESS

You can choose from PerfectGift.ie’s extensive collection of great value gift experiences online at www.PerfectGift.ie and in their own stores in Dundrum Town Centre and the Pavilions Shopping Centre in Swords. ______Exhibitions_______________
Based on your feedback, I have decided to do the following with the Exhibition section in this newsletter from now on: I will provide you with a link to a near-comprehensive listing of exhibitions provided by www.visualartists.ie. For me to list all exhibitions would only be doubling their good work and would be an inefficient use of my resources. The link is visualartists.ie/category/listings/exhib-lein/
On top of that I will every now and then include here a small selection of exhibitions that either are not mentioned in the Visual Artist listing or are note-worthy to be mentioned separately.
REPETITION FESTIVAL SHOW – PROJECT ART CENTRE
The Project Art Centre in 39 East Essex Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 has launched the exhibition “Repetition Festival Show” yesterday and it will now be on show until 11 Feb 2011 (Open: 11:00-20:00). The Repetition Festival Show brings together four of Clemens von Wedemeyer’s most celebrated film installations for the first time in Ireland. Occupation (2002), Otjesd (2005), From the Opposite Side (2007), and a selection of artworks from ‘The Fourth Wall’, including Against Death (2009), will be presented in one gallery space, to create a gallery installation which is both film festival and video installation in one. A different film installation from von Wedemeyer will open every three weeks in the gallery:
25 Nov – 11 Dec: Occupation, 2002 / The Making of Occupation, 2002
13 Dec – 08 Jan: Otjesd (Leaving), 2005 /The Making of Otjesd, 2005
10 Jan – 29 Jan: Against Death, 2009 / Interview, 2009 / Found Footage, 2009
31 Jan – 19 Feb: From the Opposite Side, 2007

ARCHITECTURE OF MURDER – EXHIBITION
The exhibition “Architecture of Murder” contains architectural drawings for Auschwitz-Birkenau and will be on show in the Irish Architectural Archive from 22 Nov-17 Dec. The exhibition is presented by the Holocaust Education Trust Ireland. It was originally shown at the United Nations Headquarters in New York for International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2010 and the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Built by Nazi Germany in occupied Poland, Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest and most important concentration and extermination camp complex. During its operation between June 1940 and January 1945, the German Nazis murdered approximately a million and one hundred thousand people there, the majority of whom were Jews.
The Auschwitz-Birkenau Blueprints collection, consisting of 29 documents, show details for expanding the camp, including the addition of a crematorium and a gas chamber.
The Irish Architectural Archive Exhibition Gallery at 45 Merrion Square, Dublin 2 is open to the public from 10:00-17:00 from Tuesdays to Fridays. Access is free+everyone is welcome.

There will be demonstrations, explanatory videos, fun, food and wine. The artist will be there to offer insights into the pictures and reveal his thinking behind them.
In his work he brings inner visions and dreams into realistic images. Using a combination of painting, photographs, 3D art and computer generated images, he brings images from his imagination into pictures the world can see. Over the next three weekends (Saturday and Sunday!), Henry Street and Grafton Street will come alive with special street performances, music and Christmas offers to tempt you into the City Centre. ;-) . Unfortunately it is not specified what will happen and where, so be surprised and look out for music and street performances. Specifically this weekend, the Business Improvement District Scheme (BIDS) is inviting to a Christmas event in conjunction with Dublin Tourism: A small street procession running on both Henry Street (11:00 – 12:00) and Grafton Street (13:00-14:00) will take place. Participants are the Tallaght Youth Band, King and Snow Queen on stilts, 10 Stage School Christmas Crackers and 10 Stage School Christmas Presents.
ICTU PROTEST MARCH – CITY CENTRE
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is organising a protest march on Sat 27 Nov from 12:00 from Wood Quay to the GPO. This is a rather unusual route (most protest marches go from Parnell Square to the Dail in Kildare Street) so make sure you check the route on the website if you want to join at a midpoint. The march is entitled “A better, fairer way” and it is a demonstration against the budget that will be announced on 07 Dec. Wood Quay is on the South Side of the Liffey at the Dublin Civic Offices and the GPO (General Post Office) is in O’Connell Street. The ICTU has assured people that this will be a peaceful march, but some people are a bit concerned about the march being hijacked by other groups. Stay alert and distance yourself if other hijack the protest. www.ictu.ie/
As with previous ICTU events, I would have preferred if they had made it a little clearer what people protest for or against. Nobody wants any cuts, but the status quo is not maintainable any longer, so the only option is to cut. So is the protest against any specific cuts? Or against just ANY cuts?
In online discussion forums many have complained that the involvement of trade unions and left wing groups will keep many people away that would have happily supported a citizen protest but have nothing in common with unions.

COMPADRITO TANGO CHARITY EVENT – PINOCCHIO
Compadrito Tango is organizing a charity tango party in aid of the Capuchin Homeless Centre on 04 December in Pinocchio Wine Bar in Ranelagh (underneath the Luas station). www.flavourofitaly.ie/pinocchio.aspx All events are free of charge, but your help for the Homeless Centre via donation will be much appreciated.
Separately, Pinocchio will offer an Aperitif of Italian tapas and wine for 12 Euro and to plan the workshop/party you need to register before 28 Nov if you want to be part of it. Just send a mail to tangofever_ireland@yahoo.com
We only ask people to donate as much as they can to the Homeless Centre.
The Capuchin Homeless Day Centre near Smithfield serves daily meals to homeless people in Dublin. In the past year only, the number of homeless people availing of the centre facilities has almost doubled, putting enormous pressure on the centre’s already tight budget. CompadritoTango would like to raise funds for the Christmas Dinner for the Homeless.
On Sat 04 Dec Simona & Hernan will teach a Creative Tango Workshop from 14:30-15:30. This is a workshop for all levels, all ages, all backgrounds… anybody who wants how to have fun on the dancefloor and a partner is not required. However, you have to have a Santa hat!! ;-) From 15:30-16:00 a Tango video will be screened and from 16:00 a Milonguita (Social Dancing) will take place. www.tangofever.net
LIFE SCIENCES LECTURE – ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY
On Wed 08 Dec at 18:00 a Life Sciences Lecture is taking place in the Royal Irish Academy. Professor Luke ONeill MRIA will talk about “What Science is telling us about Inflammatory Diseases”. Inflammatory diseases are a major burden on humanity and include such conditions as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis and asthma. Other diseases such as diabetes and heart disease also have a major inflammatory component. The scientific investigation of these diseases has revealed important clues as to what is going wrong in the body during these diseases. We have as yet no cure however, and also we still don’t know what actually causes them. Very complex biochemical pathways operating in the immune system are important however and as our scientific understanding of these diseases progresses, there is much optimism that better treatments will emerge. This lecture will present an overview of how science is informing this progress. You need to pre-register for this event: www.ria.ie/Events/Events-Listing/Life-Sciences-Lecture.aspx

ENDA KENNY NOW ELECTABLE?
During the week I had the opportunity to discuss the current political and economic situation with a number of people. They all have a strong interest in politics, but have different political backgrounds and preferences. Oddly, they all agreed on something. They agreed that Enda Kenny, the leader of Fine Gael, is the most uncharismatic and uninspiring party leader imaginable. They agreed as well that he was virtually unelectable despite his reported good works ethic and hard and dedicated work, because he has no experience and is so uninspiring. But oddly they thought that now, after the EU and the IMF took over the financial side of Irish politics, he is more electable than he ever was because he will not have responsibility for the economy anymore and therefore there would be no risk that he messes things up. – Interesting way of looking at it! ;-)
But he still has to show that he is the right man: www.herald.ie/opinion/andrew-lynch-now-its-up-to-kenny-to-show-hes-ready-for-the-big-job-2433421.html

This Event Guide (the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”) is an Event Guide with a difference. It covers mostly free events based on the thinking that free events deserve additional support and that non-free events have the money to pay for advertisement. The Guide is a _guide_ and not just a listing and is therefore at times quite extensive. It is sent for free to anybody who is interested and if you want to be added to the mailing list or know somebody who would like to receive this guide, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the Subject “Subscribe”.
If you have feedback – good or bad – PLEASE tell me via the same e-mail address.
BTW: I am not paid or otherwise rewarded for compiling and distributing this Event Guide it is purely a hobby so your donations are needed: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm. Advertisement in or sponsorship of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) is possible and very welcome, please contact me for more information.
Please note: The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Event) is not related or connected to the former fortnightly printed publication “the event guide” that you found until December 2008 in pubs and other venues.
