Hi all!

Did you enjoy the Africa Day? I hope you went!! ;-) Unfortunately I couldn’t go because I had to prepare for our Gardiner Street Gospel Choir Concert. It was a brilliant concert and it was nice to see a number of you there! If you follow my recommendations you will experience great events! :-P

The next big event coming up is one of my favourites and one of the reasons for the existence of this Event Guide. Three years ago the Gardiner Street Gospel Choir sang at the Dublin City Soul Festival and when I realised that the majority of my friends hadn’t heard about the festival, I made the decision to send them the occasional mail about other events in Dublin. Last year the Dublin City Soul Festival was well advertised, but with all the economic challenges, the organising team around Chris Maher has huge financial challenges this year. Nevertheless they found a way to make it possible to have the third Dublin City Soul Festival, but they urgently need you!! Because there is no advertisement in the normal way, you are needed to spread the word. I will tell all my 6400 friends ;-) about the Dublin City Soul Festival from 27-30 May and especially about the free outdoor festival, the Soul Picnic, in Merrion Square on Sunday 30 May. Can you tell yours? The website is www.soul.ie and the facebook group is here www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=45930903698 Invite your friends to join!

It is a pure coincidence that on the same weekend another event takes place that had a huge impact on the existence of this Event Guide. Searching for free events just about 4 months after sending the first “Event Guide” mail to a few friends, I found out about a free seminar called “Breakthrough to Success”. The first one in Dublin took place in February 2008 and I went to it. I have to say, it blew me away. It had a sizeable impact on my life, career and outlook on life and some aspects of it are the reasons why I STILL write this Event Guide three years later. The seminar helps you to understand how goals should be set effectively and what things in your head might hold you back from achieving what you always wanted to achieve but haven’t reached yet. The training is done by a hugely charismatic American, Chris Howard, who you might have heard of if NLP (Neuro-lingustic Programming) is something that interests you. It is fascinating stuff! Chris Howard is back in Dublin from 28-30 May for a seminar that focuses on achieving Wealth (not only in the money sense!). The 2.5 day seminar is called “Wealth Propulsion Intensive” and has the potential to change your life! The seminar is completely free, but Chris Howard’s team and his company live from running other (not free) courses, so they run this free seminar to give you a good idea about how good their courses are. So the free seminar is there to promote and sell additional courses. But even if you have not the slightest intention to sign up for anything else you will benefit from it. Just look at the promotional part as something like TV advertisement: To get free TV programmes we just have to live with it! The free seminar will be in the Crowne Plaza in Santry (old Airport Road) from Friday evening until Sunday evening. I will definitely be there for a large part of it! And you can register for it here: www.wealthpropulsion.co.uk/?af=CLA1035324
If you have any questions just drop me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com.

This week I have to say a special “Bem-vindo a Dublin Event Guide” to many of our Brazilian neighbours in Dublin who have joined our wonderful Dublin Event Guide Community! You are all very welcome! And if you want to invite more people, you can use this: www.perfectresults.info/event_guide_mini_flyers.pdf
www.perfectresults.info/event_guide_tear_off_poster.pdf

The “Feel Good Slot” at this point in the newsletter has the intention to make you feel positive and good, but in a lot of cases the intention is as well to get you to think a little. This week I want you to think about this: Where and when in your life did you let other people stop you from achieving things because you are something (in their eyes) or are not something? Maybe someone said you are not good at maths or that you are not good at sales? Or you are too heavy or too thin or too tall or too small? Or maybe someone said you are too old or too young? Don’t believe people that want to hold you back and follow what you enjoy. Follow your passion. Watch this amazing video of a 3 year old drummer: uk.video.yahoo.com/watch/7501380/19871724

No donations this week unfortunately. But I will keep ploughing on nevertheless! If you want to support my weekly work and want to make me smile, you can donate here: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm

This newsletter is a spare-time activity of mine for which I am not paid. It is not a commercial project and if you like it, you are invited to help with a donation. You can donate as much as you want or can, but if you need some guidance, maybe consider just ONE Euro per month or – to make it more practical – a donation of 12 Euro per year (that is just 25 cent per newsletter). Where else can you get such a vast amount of useful information for just 25 cent. ;-)

You can donate using PayPal or your credit card by following this link to the PayPal donation page www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm If you want to transfer money to my bank, just drop me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

______Joerg’s Picks______________

This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will/might or would do. This is not a “best of…” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down.

There are sooo many things happening again this week. They are not all my “cup of tea”, but they might be for you. Drawing is not my best talent, so the National Drawing Day doesn’t tempt me that much, but have a look anyway at what is on offer! You shouldn’t be bored! In addition the weather is promising so just spending time outside could be great fun. ;-)
So, let me tell you what my plans are for the week. Actually, I will take it easy on Sat and Sun. The next few weekends will be busy and I need to finish a project that I had started a long time ago, so I will spend some time on that. On Monday and Wednesday I will do my Krav Maga (www.kravmagaireland.com) and on Tuesday I have a rehearsal for a gig on Thursday in Leixlip. The Valley Gospel Singers are doing a concert in the Leixlip church for an African Priest who is going back home. It is outside of Dublin, so it is not mentioned here. ;-) But the other thing that I will do on Thursday is to try to spend as much time as possible at the Dublin City Soul Festival events. Check Thursday for all details!

______Dublin News______________

STREET FEAST – CELEBRATING COMMUNITY
Samuel B., a supportive and enthusiastic Dublin Event Guide Community Member, told me during the week about a new and very interesting initiative: A group of volunteers is working on the great idea of having nationwide Get-Togethers in our local streets on a day in July. The name of the initiative is “Street Feast” and it will be a national event to celebrate community. Attempted for the first time this year, the plan is to run this festival every year from now on. The neighbourhood street parties are hosted by you and your neighbours, and communities across Ireland on 18 July and the Street Fest Team is providing ideas and resources. The parties can be anywhere really – out on the street, in a local park or in your front garden.
There are many good reasons to have a Street Feast, but most of all it’s a great opportunity to meet new people who live near you and have a good time together. Importantly, Street Feast is people-powered and can’t happen without individuals like you taking getting involved. Find out more on www.streetfeast.ie and talk to your friends and neighbours about how you can be part of it.

10,000 Free LUAS TICKETS – MARITME FESTIVAL
Just in time for this issue a mail arrived from Lisa C telling me about a free ticket offer for the Maritime Festival. The Festival takes place over the bank holiday weekend and the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) has announced that Luas is partnering with the Docklands Maritime Festival and is offering 10,000 free Luas Tickets over the June Bank Holiday weekend to those who wish to travel to the seventh Maritime Festival. The announcement is here and you can request your tickets here www.dublindocklands.ie/maritimefestival/luas_tickets.jsp When they are gone, they are gone. ;-) So don’t wait!

DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS SUGGESTION – APRIL FOOL’S DAY?
When I read about this suggestion/proposal I had to check the calendar to see if it is April Fool’s Day again and I still wonder if it maybe should be in the “This Is Odd!!” section instead in the Dublin News. Micheal Martin, who is currently Ireland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs (!!) and therefore the political representative of Ireland to the outside world, suggested that the 70 million or so people in the world that claim they have Irish roots should get a credit card-style card that confirms their roots and with this card they should then get discounts at tourist sites in Ireland. If that idea came from Tourism Ireland you could maybe understand it, but if the Minister of Foreign Affairs suggests this and if you then find out that it was seemingly one odea that was generated at a 3-day Think Tank last year that was looking at solving Ireland’s financial problems, the idea suddenly looks different. Does he really think that if people get a credit card-size card that confirms that someone’s great-great-grandmother was Irish and if that person then gets a bit of a discount at the Guinness Storehouse, this will sort out Ireland’s financial challenges?

GOOD NEWS FOR ALINE BARROS
I sent you the new video with Aline Barros, two weeks ago, the wonderful Brazilian who is full of energy and optimism despite the fact that the doctors tell her she will stay in a wheelchair for the rest of her life after the hit-and-run accident. Last Tues Aline got some good news on another front: Her mother is here on a holiday visa and was nearly getting deported because her 3 months were over. But in the end the Department of Justice allowed her to stay until Aline’s court case (end of June) is over. www.independent.ie/national-news/crash-victims-mum-can-stay-2183486.html Here is Aline’s video once more, in case you haven’t seen it yet: www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-7velObi5Y I

RESURRECTION OF HUGHES & HUGHES?
Hughes&Hughes, the chain of book shops that closed down a few months ago and was in receivership, might be resurrected. A brand new company by the name of Sivota Ltd. bought some assets of Hughes&Hughes and apparently plans to continue to trade as Hughes&Hughes in the coming weeks. Sivota was founded on 14 April 2010 and is registered at the address of a solicitor in Lower Fitzwilliam Street. www.cro.ie/search/CompanyDetails.aspx?id=483215&type=C

———Opportunities—————–

In order to beat an economic downturn not governments can help, but individuals are needed that take the initiative and to create new markets and new opportunities for themselves and for their customers and hopefully employees. The banks don’t help anymore, the government doesn’t want to help, so we have to help ourselves! The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) will help you if you have recently started a company and if you could do with spreading the word. I hope being mentioned here and being seen by the 6000+ readers of the Event Guide will kick start something big for you. In return I expect you to tell your clients and friends about the Event Guide and once you have made a nice bit of money, a donation would be very appreciated. ;-) (This offer is for start-ups in relatively early stages only. Established companies can contact me regarding very affordable advertisement options in the Dublin Event Guide.) If you want to promote your start-up/young company here for free, let me know: dublineventguide@gmail.com.

More to come!

______Exhibitions_______________

It is probably no surprise to you ;-) that no matter what time I have to write the Event Guide it just disappears and in the end it is a mad rush to get it out to you at a half decent time. But again something had to get dropped today and unfortunately it is our artists again. However, today I have something to make up for it. It is a link to a great resource of all types of listings of exhibitions. Let me know what you think of it, because I am considering dropping the Exhibitions and just pointing you in the direction of the people at www.visualartists.ie. They do a good job and it is their main job. Would you have a problem if I reduced or left out the exhibition notices and only pointed to visualartists.ie/category/listings/exhib-lein/ Send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with EXHIBITIONS in the subject if you want to tell me your opinion.

TUESDAY PROTESTS – DAIL
The Tuesday Evening Protests at the Dail in Kildare Street are continuing. On Tuesday 25 May at 19:30 another demonstration will take place. The declared goal is to “Stop the bank bailout” and to get rid of the current government. While the goal of replacing an incapable government definitely justifies the protests, the nature of the organising groups makes you wonder if they can get the mass support that such an initiative needs. “Right to Work Campaign”, Unite Trade Union, Socialist Worker Party, Anti-Capitalists? The organisations appear to be more the type of left-wing fringe organisations, than organisations that could get the “middle of the road” tax payer to support the protests. To remove a government a mass protest is needed and there are serious doubts that the groups involved will manage this.

———Pre-Announcements————————

This section contains lots of events this week that happen in the future some of them require free tickets and it is mentioned where this is the case. Put the events in your diary and for the ticketed events hurry to request your tickets:

WEALTH PROPULSION INTENSIVE – SANTRY
During this free 2.5 day seminar you will learn strategies and principles to build your wealth. Chris Howard, an international speaker and trainer of the calibre of Anthony Robbins explains: “Just turn on your TV or surf the Internet, and you’ll be bombarded with reasons why the economy is so bad and why it’s so difficult to build riches today. You may not realise it, but you’re being programmed, conditioned, and robbed of your opportunity to build wealth and riches today. You’re also being programmed to believe you can’t follow your passions and still be rich. Or that you have to join the corporate world or suffer in a dead-end job you despise. So instead of following your passion, you end up taking that job to meet your obligations, and you feel as if you’re living a mediocre life.” The event will start on Friday evening at 18:00 and will continue on Saturday and Sunday. It is a promotional event for other non-free courses, for example a full NLP qualification, but the 2.5 days are packed with valuable information that will help you even if additional courses are currently not the right thing for you. Register here: www.wealthpropulsion.co.uk/?af=CLA1035324 The seminar will take place in the Crowne Plaza in Santry.

NORTH STRAND BOMBINGS – SEMINAR

The seminar will include talks about various aspects of the bombing including censorship, compensation, and the role of the emergency services. It will take place on Sat 29 May from 10:00-16:00 in the Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin 2. The event is free, but booking is essential. ______This is odd!!______________

ASH CLOUDS, AIR TRAFFIC AND THE SAFE LIMITS
I guess by now everybody has been affected directly or indirectly or knows friends that have directly been affected by the ash spitting icelandic volcano with the near-unpronounceable name. When the volcano started letting between 50 and 400 tonnes of ash in the air per SECOND (!!), initially all flights were grounded because the “safe limit” was ZERO. However, this caused a lot of disruptions as we know and after a while the safe limit was increased to 2mg per cubic metre of air. But when even that caused flight cancellations, the limit was further increased to 4 mg per cubic metre and a new category of restricted air space was created. (www.nats.co.uk/updates.html). I know that the plane engine manufacturers and the airlines analysed and tested and checked and thought a lot about these safe limits, but we have to realise as well that the commercial pressures were HUGE! So, can we be certain that the safe limits are really SAFE limits? Or could it be that they were introduced and increased to a level that was less defined by safety than by the need of having as little disruptions as possible? Unfortunately I don’t have a conclusive answer to this question, but it is a little concerning that the time and therefore the research into this was so limited. In other areas the introduction of safe limits follows years of research and still could be completely wrong (See Asbestos, Dioxine, CFCs) for the ash related safe limits just about one months was used to analyse the available information. This is odd and quite worrying! Let’s hope and pray that now accident happens that is caused by a failing jet engine due to ash damage. Check as well the section ” Jet Engine Tolerance to Airborne Particles” in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_travel_disruption_after_the_2010_Eyjafjallajökull_eruption

—————–
This week you will get the Event Guide at the “normal” time again and hopefully with all or nearly all events. ;-) I realised that I numbered last week’s newsletter wrong as well. It was a slightly mad day and a BIG rush to get it finished last Friday morning. Apologies.
The weather promises to be WONDERFUL this weekend! Make the most out of it, you never know how many nice weekends there will be! ;-)

If you don’t want to receive this mail anymore, just click on the link at the bottom of this mail. It would help me if you told me in an e-mail why you decided to unsubscribe, but that is not a “Must”. If you only want to stop receiving the newsletter temporarily, you can – if you wish – discuss this with me by e-mail so that we find a solution that makes sense to you. If you unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of the mail and there is a chance that you – at some stage – want to re-subscribe, please make sure that you keep a mail with the “unsubscribe link” because I will not be able to add you anymore to the list once you have unsubscribed using this link. The only way you can re-subscribe is to follow that specific link and change the settings yourself.
This Event Guide (the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”) is an Event Guide with a difference. It covers mostly free events based on the thinking that free events deserve additional support and that non-free events have the money to pay for advertisement. The Guide is a _guide_ and not just a listing and is therefore at times quite extensive. It is sent for free to anybody who is interested and if you want to be added to the mailing list or know somebody who would like to receive this guide, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the Subject “Subscribe”.
If you have feedback – good or bad – PLEASE tell me via the same e-mail address.
BTW: I am not paid or otherwise rewarded for compiling and distributing this Event Guide it is purely a hobby so your donations are needed: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm. Advertisement in or sponsorship of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) is possible and very welcome, please contact me for more information.
Please note: The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Event) is not related or connected to the former fortnightly printed publication “the event guide” that you found until December 2008 in pubs and other venues.
