Only 10 to go!

Hi!!
I remember when I was around 10 years of age that every year the Advents Calendar was an important tool to measure time. Every day we opened a little door and we were looking forward to finding a piece of chocolate in the form of a Christmas related item there.
That bit of chocolate was great, but the other great thing was that we were able to see clearly how much longer we have to wait until we will celebrate Christmas and get some bigger presents.
The Advents Calendar was and still is the only time in the year where this “time measuring” aid is provided to children. But what do you do now as an adult? Do you still use an Advents Calendar? There are versions now that are compatible with being a grown up. And do you use count down timers for anything else in your life? Like the days until your holidays? Or the days to your birthday?
To be honest, I am not a fan of wishing your life away by “postponing happiness” until a certain date in the future. But there is nothing wrong with looking forward to an upcoming event as long as you also make best use of the time until then.
Well then, here we go: Only 10 more days until Christmas! ;-) Enjoy the run up to it.
Because there are only 10 days left until Christmas, also be aware that this weekend is the last weekend on which you can visit the Christmas Market at the Castle. The Christmas Market already closes on 18 Dec (which is definitely too early, but better having a short market than having no market)!

Donations in December:
EUR 210
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.
Last week Eimear, Aislin, Annemarie, Angela, Donna, Fionnghuala and Maria were the wonderful and generous people who helped with a donation. Thank you so much! Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and it is truly a wonderful group of people who help keeping the Dublin Event Guide going. Join this exclusive group! Without donations to pay the bills I will not be able to continue.
With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.
Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

Please note: To speed up the creation of the weekday section of the Dublin Event Guide, I am experimenting with a few minor changes. +++ CHRISTMAS AT THE CASTLE
The Christmas at the Castle – Christmas Market is back again this year and it is great! But it is ending already this week. :-o
Christmas at the Castle will run from 28 Nov until 18 Dec and it will be open from 12:00-21:00 every day.
It is in the Upper Courtyard of Dublin Castle, the PERFECT location for a Christmas Market. NO tickets are required (tickets for a Christmas Market was the daftest idea ever ;-) )
www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=958377999649882
In addition to the market stalls with Christmas goods and crafts, there will be artisan food sold to bring home. The vintage carousel for the children is also back.
In a marquee will be Christmas entertainment, in the Chapel Royal will be a Neapolitan crib and last but not least the already mentioned food stalls with food to eat on site will give you a chance to enjoy a nice evening out.
+++ The Moving Crib
The Moving Crib in St Martin Apostolate, Parnell Square West, Dublin 1 is a basement full of a crib installation in which the figures move continuously. It is great for kids, so give it a go when you are in town. All details are at www.stmartin.ie/crib/
+++ Live Animal Crib at the Mansion House
From Wednesday 11 December until Monday 23 December (11:00-16:00 daily) and on Christmas Eve (11:00-13:00) the Live Animal Crib is back at Mansion House. The Live Animal Crib is a joint initiative between Dublin City Council and the Irish Farmers Association and an ill-informed mayor of Dublin cancelled it last year at Mansion House (it was set up at St. Stephen’s Green). This year it is back in the place where families found it many years before and hopefully also in the future, at Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2. www.ifa.ie/farm-sectors/live-animal-crib-officially-opened-at-the-mansion-house/

+++ Experience the Winter Solstice at Newgrange
Every year a lottery selects the few people that are allowed to be in the chamber of the passage tomb at Newgrange to experience the Winter Solstice. Newgrange was built thousands of years ago with no modern measuring equipment or computers. But it was built and aligned so perfectly that the rising of the sun on the shortest day of the year allows the direct sunlight to enter the tomb through a small opening above its entrance called the ‘roof box’, to illuminate the chamber for 17 minutes. (A clear morning is required.)
Only a few people will be allowed into the tomb, but you can experience it through a livestream from inside the passage tomb.
RTE will be broadcasting the livestream on Saturday 21 December from 08:40 on the RTE News channel and worldwide on the RTE Player, RTE.ie and the RTE News app.
Recordings of the livestreaming events in 2020, 2021, 2023 and after the event also of 2024 are/will be available on the OPW’s YouTube channel www.youtube.com/c/OpwIe More details are here heritageireland.ie/learn/newgrange-winter-solstice/

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)
