Do you remember Christmas 2020 or Christmas 2021? At that time we were taking about “Level 5” and “close contacts” and “not more than 4 families and about boosting or not. It was DIFFERENT. Many thought it would never change again.

But this year, just 2/3 years later, we can’t even remember details. Well, most of us can’t! There are some people (one of my neighbours is among them) who are still sooo afraid and therefore wear a mask everytime they go out. Thankfully the kids remember nothing anymore, so the impact was not long term. But crazy how the world has changed again.

|

This weekend is by far the busiest pre-Christmas weekend for markets, so go out and enjoy the mingling and mixing that is sooo much different than just a few years ago.
|
|
Ohh and if you know of people who are still cocooning in fear of the outside world, maybe drop a Christmas card in their letter box or talk to them from a distance so that they know that there are people who care.

Discover 400 years of Irish links to the Caribbean in this temporary exhibition (until February 2024) that tells the stories of a wide range of Irish people who traversed and settled in the Caribbean. It all started in the 17th century, when Irish indentured labourers were among the many thousands transported to work on islands acquired by the English. The Irish in time found their way into positions of power and privilege across the region, whether as plantation owners or colonial governors.
Entangled Islands traces this long and multifaceted history of connection through 19 key figures on either side of the Atlantic, from merchants and enslavers to poets and journalists.

+++ Gardiner Street Gospel Choir Christmas Concert – Ticket Competition
“Christmas Spirit: An Evening of Christmas Joy” is the title of the Christmas event with the Gardiner Street Gospel Choir, supported by Gardiner Street Primary School Choir & Xavier Music Ministry. The event will take place on Wednesday 13 December from 19:30-21:00 (Door: 19:00). And it will happen in St. Francis Xavier Church in Upper Gardiner Street.

The Live Animal Crib is back! After last year’s mayor saw some non-existent animal welfare issue with the crib, this year the crib is back and it is open from 06-24 December. You would think that the opening hours will be mentioned somewhere, but unfortunately that is not the case. The Moving Crib is a crib that stretches across the whole basement of the St Martin Apostolate at Parnell Square and in which the figures move in a endearing way. So it is particularly suited for kids, but also adults will get something out of it. The Moving Crib is open from 11:00-17:30 every day (with a small number of exceptions) from 27 Nov until 07 Jan. From Thursday 23 Nov Dublin Port Company presents the exhibition “Solidarity – The Dockers of Dublin Port”. It will be on show in the newly refurbished Substation building on Alexandra Road and will describe the story of the dockers in Dublin Port, a story of hardship but also one of humour and resilience.
