The Dublin Event Guide is improving!

I am not sure what you would tell me if I asked you what you like and what you dislike about the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”, but one thing that you would most likely mention pretty soon is that it is sent too late. And I couldn’t agree more.
|
|
It should be in your hands ideally on Friday or if that is not possible than at least at the very latest early on Saturday morning. I get that and understand it fully.
|
|
|
|
I always said that if someone would sponsor me to be able to work more time on the Dublin Event Guide, I would guarantee that it will be out earlier. After nearly 800 editions, though, I kind of gave up on that sponsorship idea, but I will still do my best to change things around.
|
|
If you can, help me by kicking my backside, support me by not being too harsh if I am later than I should be and stay with me so that you will experience the new and better Dublin Event Guide. This week is only a TINY bit earlier. Next week I will do another bit better!

This week, February is coming to an end and with the 1st day of March, Spring will arrive in Ireland. This definitely has an impact on events! The first bit outdoor event will be the St. Patrick’s Festival from 17-19 March and I will tell you more about this next week.

And then after Easter (09 April), the outdoor season will properly start. Let’s hope it will be a good one!

++ Lights, Camera, Action: The Irish in Hollywood (as Gaeilge)

With a record 14 nominations at this year’s Oscars, it would appear we’re entering a golden era for Irish filmmaking. However, Irish people have played crucial rules in Hollywood and beyond for decades and have helped to shape the modern film industry as directors, actors, writers, animators, producers and more.
Dublin born inventor Lucien Bull was an early pioneer of high speed photography, without which the Hollywood film industry would not exist. Others like the legendary actor, choreographer and Oscar winner Gene Kelly had roots in Ireland while the original designer of the famous Oscar statute Cedric Gibbons was also a proud member of the Irish diaspora.

Dublin City has a new app that allows us to discover iconic Dublin landmarks such as the famine statues, the CHQ building and more.
The app is available to download for free via doorsintodocklands.com/
After you got the app, you can point your phone at the landmarks and this will prompt the related images, videos and stories to pop up.
The app uses Augmented Reality (AR), a mix of 3D graphics, animation and audio, to immerse users in the story of the city.

From 01-17 March the Irish Language Festival “Seachtain na Gaeilge” will be back. The website snag.ie/ or peig.ie/ allegedly has all the events, but even with the English translation of the websites I didn’t find it easy to reveal the full list. I hope you will be luckier.

There are five headline events that are free and open to everybody. In addition there are many other regional events that often happen on Zoom and therefore are not limited to the region. Many of them are free, others cost 10 or 20 Euro.
