Open House!
Open House Dublin, Cop On Festival, Jobs Expo & many more
Hi!
It is Open House weekend! Don’t miss it and find out more about the buildings and the architecture that surrounds us. You might be surprised that I keep harping on about this event. ;-) But it is a little less known than Culture Night and it also doesn’t appeal to everybody, I get that.
We take architecture for granted and don’t really give it that much attention, but if you take part in any of the Open House events, you will see that there is a LOT more behind a facade than you think! Literally! :-)
If you haven’t booked any tours, it is still not too late. Go to the website and lock for the red Filter button at the bottom. Now select “Drop-in” and select the day that you are looking for and you will see all the drop in tours that are happening. Try one or two even if you are a bit hesitant and then tell me about it afterwards.
There are lots of other festivals as well and definitely the Cop on Climate Action Festival deserves your attention. Not that the others are not interesting, but it is impossible to do everything.
Next Friday there will be new festivals again: The “Earth Rising – Eco Art Festival” and the “Purple Flag – Alive After Five Festival”. If you go to the bottom of the newsletter you find some more details about them.
Donations in October:
EUR 136
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.
The great people that donated last week were Rita and Giovanni! Thank you so much! Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!
Only another 17 days to reach the required EUR 200 per month to pay the bills! Can you help? If the donations are EUR 12, then we need just 6 nice people! Will you be one of them?
With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.
Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

+++ Open House Dublin 2022
Open House Dublin is an event by the Irish Architecture Foundation mainly on 15+16 October, but there are already a few tours on Friday 14 Oct.
Open House focuses on architecture. It looks at the buildings around us and you will be able to visit these buildings, go on a guided tour and find out from architects what was the idea behind how they are built.
At Open House there will be lots of tours in interesting buildings in Dublin on Saturday and Sunday and while some tours are walk-in tours where you just join a queue outside and wait until it is your turn, many require booking. So check the website www.openhousedublin.com and make a plan for the next weekend.

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY)
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon. And Book Depository always delivers for free. By buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you, so two good reasons in one. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository .

+++ Samhain Halloween Walks 2022 – Marlay Park (29+30 Oct)

These tickets are in hot demand and, so check out how it works here: The walks take place on Sat 29 Oct (16:30-20:30) and on Sunday 20 Oct (15:30-20:30). events.dlrcoco.ie/event/samhain-halloween-walks-2022

+++ PURPLE FLAG – ALIVE AFTER FIVE FESTIVAL
From 20-23 Oct Dublin will celebrate the Purple Flag festival. Like the Blue Flag is a quality accreditation for clean beaches, the Purple Flag is an accreditation that honours excellence in the appeal and management of a town or city centre area after 17:00.
Sounds a little odd? Yes it does! I didn’t even realise that there is any central management done for anything that happens after 17:00 in Dublin. :-O
Dublin Town (the organisation that represents the traders in Dublin City) are looking after this festival and their website is not revealing much. Big words “packed with free events on both sides of the city showcasing the best in culture, food and music that Dublin has to offer”.
But at the moment there are only two events listed: A festival in Drury Street on Thursday with on-street food demonstrations and tasting, live music from buskers and street entertainment (17:00-22:00) and on Sunday 23 Oct an on-street movie screening of the original Ghostbusters. Maybe DublinTown will tell us more about other events OR these two events are the “best Dublin has to offer”. www.dublintown.ie/purpleflag

+++ Dublin Arts & Human Rights Festival
The Dublin Arts and Human Rights Festival is a yearly festival organised by Smashing Times International Centre for the Arts and Equality and Front Line Defenders, an organisation working to improve the security and protection of human rights defenders at risk. There will be workshops, theatre performances, musical performances, visual arts, exhibitions, film screenings, panel discussions, poetry and literature events, historical memory performances, live art, and digital installations.
All events (most of them are free) can be found at smashingtimes.ie/whats-on/

+++ EARTH RISING – ECO ART FESTIVAL
The Irish Museum of Modern Art is inviting to an Eco Art Festival from Fri 21 to Sun 23 Oct. There will be over 70 contributors, artist commissions, talks, workshops, Seed STUDIO and showcases and a “Built to Disappear” eco pavilion. Live Music and food stalls will provide entertainment and sustenance. The festival is an outdoor festival, so come prepared. Some events need pre-booking, others are drop-in events. The festival will run on Friday from 15:00-21:00 and on Sato and Sun from 12:00-19:00. For all details and to get tickets, go to imma.ie/whats-on/earth-rising/

+++ COP ON! The Festival – Arts, Talks & Workshops about Climate Action
The Cop On Festival about Climate Action will stimulate discussion and inspire concrete climate action for realistic and sustained change. It is organised by Concern Worldwide and is part of the 1Planet4All campaign. There will be “an inspiring mix of great speakers from Ireland and around the world along with legendary Irish bands, comedians and spoken word artists.” Some of the music acts are Kila, Sive, Accidental Rapper and 49th & Main. An open-air cinema, workshops, street food, flea market, reggae yoga, special DJ sets and a range of surprises will enhance the festival.
It will take place at TU Dublin, Lower House, Grangegorman, Dublin 7 On Friday 14 Oct (18:00-21:00 ) and Saturday 15 Oct (10:00-21:00). Admission is free, but registration is required at www.eventbrite.ie/e/415146082107
More information about the event can be found at copon.ie/
It seems that most workshops are sold out already, but there might be some more tickets on the day.

Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or somethign completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes doen further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!
Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)
