Dublin Event Guide 778: History in bucketloads! – Dublin Festival of History, TOG Repair Cafe, D.A.T.A Anniversary, Samhain Rainbow Umbrella Market

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

History in bucketloads!

Dublin Festival of History, TOG Repair Cafe, D.A.T.A Anniversary, Samhain Rainbow Umbrella Market

Hi!

As soon as Culture Night is over in September, the next focus is the “Open House” event by the Irish Architecture Foundation on 15+16 October.

It is a COMPLETELY different event than Culture Night, but it also is a very unique event that brings the world around us closer to us. Open House doesn’t focus on culture, instead its whole focus is on architecture. It looks at the buildings around us and you will be able to visit these buildings, go on a guided tour and find out from architects what was the idea behind how they are built.

As you can guess from this intro, I love “Open House”! Why? Because I discovered buildings and their purpose and intention in Dublin that had no meaning to me before Open House and suddenly after the event, I “got them”. I understood what the architects intended and I saw their beauty and purpose.

Buildings like Liberty Hall or Busaras, that many judge as quite ugly buildings. Or buildings like the Department of Foreign Affairs at St Stephen’s Green or Government Buildings on Merrion Road or the offices of the headquarters of the Irish Lighthouse authority, the Commissioners of Irish Lights, in Dun Laoghaire, or the Criminal Court of Justice at the edge of Phoenix Park. All amazing buildings in their own rights that we often don’t think much about.

Open House will consist of tours on Saturday and Sunday and while some tours are walk-in tours where you just join a queue outside and wait until it is your turn, many require booking. So check the website www.openhousedublin.com already now and make a plan for the weekend of 15+16 Oct. Select at least ONE building that you want to see and then check if you need to book the tour. Do it this weekend, so that you don’t miss out! ;-)

You won’t have to wait 2 weeks until the next worthwhile event though! There are interesting and exciting cultural events every day of the week in this great city of ours! The “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” covers the whole week, not only the weekend. The weekend events only are posted on Facebook, but for the real lovers of culture, the week doesn’t consist of Saturday and Sunday only. So if you want to know about the events from Monday to Friday, go to www.DublinEventGuide.com and find the WHOLE week or even better, subscribe to the weekly e-mail newsletter on that same website!

Donations in October:
EUR 82

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were Katherine and Hanna! Thank you so much! Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ dlr Festival of Inclusion 2022
For the whole month of October the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Festival of Inclusion will take place (29 Sep-31 Oct) with plenty of free events promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. All events are listed here events.dlrcoco.ie/event/dlr-festival-inclusion-2022

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY)
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon. And Book Depository always delivers for free. By buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you, so two good reasons in one. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

+++ LOTS of Trinity College Talks
Trinity College is offering really interesting talks and LOTS of them. There are so many that I couldn’t include them all, so please check out www.tcd.ie/news_events/events/ and if you check before Monday, then click on “NEXT WEEK” towards the top to see all the events that take place next week.

+++ Sculpture in Context – National Botanic Garden
For the 36th time the yearly “Sculpture in Context” exhibition will be in the National Botanic Gardens. 120 artists are showing their work and the bigger pieces are wonderfully integrated in the park. The sculptures will be in the park from 01 Sept to 07 Oct (inclusive). And because admission to the Botanic Gardens is free anyway, visiting this exhibition is free too. sculptureincontext.ie

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or somethign cmpletely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes doen further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,
