Going down!?

Hi all!
Things are still tough for most of us. Yes, there is a glimmer of light on the horizon, but right now we are still locked away. Most of us haven’t experienced a cultural event live event since last March and Zoom events are just not the same.
So with all that in mind, I get why the interest in the events that I am trying to tell you about is weak – to put it mildly.

On Facebook the response and feedback is worryingly low. The opening rate for the e-mails has dropped further and last week we didn’t manage to get one single cent of a donation. Maybe it is a sign of the times, but the problem is that things like Facebook reach is not something that can be turned off and on like a light bulb, but once the reach is gone, then it is super hard to get the numbers up again. “Reach” is achieved by people – that is you! – engaging with the weekly post. Writing some feedback, clicking on the button that confirms that you appreciate a post and telling others about a post are the three “currencies” that tells Facebook that more people should see this post. If Facebook gets the impression that you are not interested, it will not show the post.
On the other end is me, who writes the Dublin Event Guide and – for a change – I want to be completely open with you about this: The only thrill I get out of spending hours searching for content and putting it together in this newsletter, is the feedback I get from you! If I get the impression that you are happy about what the Dublin Event Guide gives you, I love giving more. If I feel that there is nobody out there anymore, then I drag my heels to the keyboard and am wondering if all this is worth it.
|
|
Maybe it will change again when real life events start again, but right now it all looks as dim as our social life! So I am looking at all the options that are there and if you want to contribute to my pondering and weighing up of options for the future of the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”, drop me a mail at dublineventguide@gmail.com or give me some feedback on Facebook.
THANK YOU!

With a big zero on the sheet for last week’s donations, I am hopeful that this week will be like the start of a new spring morning. Happy, shiny, optimistic and full of possibilities and opportunities. :-)
If you like free cultural events and enjoy the great content in the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”, please help by donating a small amount.
|
|
|
(The next big project is a very much needed update of the Dublin Event Guide website to be able to offer more services.) Any amount will help, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I would suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. That’s just one Euro per month. Where else can you get so much value for so little money?
Use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. In case it doesn’t work for you, the “old” links are still below for another little while. On this new page, you can also choose to sign up for a yearly subscription! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and would be great to have! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom.)
If the new page above doesn’t work, just use these links and donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide
or for Revolut users among you just use @joergbrb (Revolut is moving away from phone numbers and to addresses like this one.)
Or you can buy one or two or even three virtual coffees (or Hot Chocolates!) for the Dublin Event Guide and you can do that on the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
|
|
And another way to help is this free way: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent!
Thank you!!

+++ One Dublin One Book 2021: Leonard and Hungry Paul by Ronan Hession
Every year the Dublin City Libraries select a book that has a connection with Dublin either through its content or its author as the “One Dublin One Book” selection. The libraries encourage everyone to read that book and there are lots of events during April in connection with the chosen book.
—
In 2021, the selected book is “Leonard and Hungry Paul”. Leonard and Hungry Paul are two quiet friends who see the world differently. They use humour, board games and silence to steer their way through the maelstrom that is the 21st century. The book author is Ronan Hession, an Irish writer based in Dublin and “Leonard and Hungry Paul” is his debut novel. www.onedublinonebook.ie/
