We should be celebrating this week

Mother’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Brain Awareness week and lots more.

Hi all!
Have you read about Level 4.995 in the government’s plans? No? Well, that’s what the great improvement will be in 3.5 weeks. :-( At least twice a week, the Taoiseach is working on conditioning us so that we won’t expect any significant improvement in April. (Here is an example from RTE.ie.) And – in a way – I am doing nothing better than “condition” you to expect bad news. But to be honest, I know some people who are at breaking point, – financially and mentally – and who pin ALL their hope on the “big change” on 05 April, no matter what the indicators are. Yes, be optimistic about the next few months, but be an optimistic realist or a realistic optimist. :-)
We will leave the times of restrictions behind us, that is absolutely certain, but the marathon is not over yet.
In the meantime, let us enjoy ourselves as much as we can! I keep saying it week after week and I am very serious: Do not give up on online events! I know there is a degree of fatigue with them, but they will keep us going for another bit and when we can go back to real-life events, it might be the start of hybrid events. I “went” to a few Enterprise Week events last week and the ONLY reason I was able to go to four of them (REALLY interesting events!) was because they were online with NO travel requirements. One was in Donegal, another in Dun Laoghaire. In normal times I would have missed all four.
So, hold out and keep “going” to online events and keep smiling! :-)
Now let’s have a look at what is coming up!
This weekend is Mother’s Day AND on Wednesday is also St. Patrick’s Day. All official St. Patrick’s Day events are online this year and, for many of you, Mother’s Day also has to be an online event. But whatever you do, do NOT forget Mother’s Day! ;-) |
|
The scaling down of weekday events wasn’t overly successful last week, so I will have to do better today and next week I will be on a three day full-day online seminar, so the Dublin Event Guide might even be slimmer. But don’t worry, you will get some suggestions for free events! ;-)

The sad dog from last week has been replaced with a much happier dog this week! Thanks a lot for the much needed donations. I very much appreciate your help!
If you like free cultural events and enjoy the great content in the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”, please help by donating a small amount. (The next big project is a very much needed update of the Dublin Event Guide website to be able to offer more services.) Any amount will help, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I would suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. That’s just one Euro per month. Where else can you get so much value for so little money?
I have created a brand new Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s payment processing. Try it out and in case it doesn’t work for you, the “old” links are still below. ;-) On this new page, you can even choose to sign up for a yearly subscription, so that you don’t need to remember to donate every year. (Look for the RED buttons at the bottom.)
If the new page above doesn’t work, just use these links and donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide
or for Revolut users among you just use @joergbrb (Revolut is moving away from phone numbers and to addresses like this one.)
If PayPal or Revolut don’t work for you, you can buy one or two or even three virtual coffees (or Hot Chocolates!) for the Dublin Event Guide and you can do that on the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG .

|
And if you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent!
Thank you!!

St. Patrick’s Festival Week 2021 – Hmmmm!
Is it St. Patrick’s Festival Week and while we didn’t expect much from St. Patrick’s Festival 2021, considering the severe restrictions, it is even worse than expected. There could have been talks and discussions and live gigs and other distributed events, but the organisers decided that a TV Station that sends Irish content from 09:30-22:30 every day is good enough for this year.
It would be surprising if many of you will spend a lot of time watching St. Patrick’s TV at stpatricksfestival.ie/spftv It is not that the content of the TV station is bad throughout, there are definitely good programmes included, so check it out, but it watching a St. Patrick’s TV station just has NOTHING to do with an event or a festival. After billion of hours of Netflix and ordinary TV, another TV station from 12-17 March will not excite anybody. But maybe I am wrong and you love it! If that’s the case, please let me know!
One good idea is the Irish Music Magazine event on St. Patrick’s Day: Form 09:00-01:00, so for a total of 16 hours (!!) you can listen to Irish Music performances. There are not many big names on the line-up – John Spillane is probably the most famous of all contributors – but good music doesn’t necessarily need famous performers. The full schedule is in the Wednesday section above, so check it out!
Also have a look at the Seoda Festival (www.cultureireland.ie/news/article/culture-ireland-seoda-5-day-global-online-festival-17-21-march – an online festival and global celebration of Irish culture by Culture Ireland from 17-21 March. |
FACEBOOK IS BROKEN :-(
Facebook has managed it finally to break their platform completely. I use Facebook quite a lot to find free events for you, but this week is has all gone town the drain. If you select the location “Dublin” and the timeframe Sat+Sun, then you will find out that NO events are taking place. :-O
The whole mess started when they moved to the ugly new layout. Lots of features stopped working and the events section is getting worse instead of better.
Last week at least a few bits were still working, this week they are broken as well. And as you know, nobody in Facebook is intersted in what an awful state their application is. Infuriating!!!!

Wow! What a promotional film!
Normally promotional films are just that: An ad that you blank out. You get something to eat or drink or go to the toilet while ads are showing, right? Well, look at this ad and it will BLOW YOU AWAY!
It is 90seconds long and is an ad for a bowling alley in Minneapolis. It is filmed in one single take and was filmed by a drone.
Seriously impressive: www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-12/hollywood-drone-video-minnesota-bowling-alley/13241718
