After creating a clear and reasonably well defined Five Level Plan and then sending the “National Framework for living with Covid-19” in printed form to every household, the government told us on Wednesday that we will be upgraded from Level 3 to Level 3.8. :-O
This is still better than Level 4 or Level 5, but then NPHET suggested a second time to move to Level 5 and the second time it will be a lot more difficult for the government to resist that suggestion.
If you look at the numbers of infections, then it looks quite worrying. But we also know that more tests means more found infections. In March/April the assumption was that we had only a 10% detection ratio, so with so many more tests, it could be that we actually had a much worse situation regarding infections in March/April than we ever knew.
So what should WE do? When you think about it, it doesn’t really matter that much at what Level the country is. The only thing that matters is how we behave! IF we were at Level 1 and we stayed away from people or locations where we could get infected, we wouldn’t have to worry too much and if at Level 4 we ignore all advise, even Level 4 or 5 will not change anything.
At Level 3.8, we are asked not to visit anybody at home, but we should still support people that live on their own. Meet them for a walk or a chat outside for a little while. We need to continue to support each other!
The return of events, is obviously completely off the cards at the moment and the probability that the restrictions will be extended beyond 10 November is very high, we might even go to Level 5.
All I can do in this situation is to remind you that there are actually lots of events happening and – if you consider the outdoor/framers markets – even live events, not just online things.
I gathered a whole lot of activities for you again to keep us going and I can confidently say that there will be an end to the current situation. We don’t know yet when, but it will end!
Facebook did try to sabotage my work for a second week this month. After many weeks of resistance, I was not able to move back to the original layout and seemingly will have to put up with the horrible new layout. But in addition to the bad look & feel, the events section on Facebook was not working properly and showed only a fraction of events. Always new challenges to circumvent, to keep my job interesting! ;-)
There is one thing though that you can help me with: I need your help with the cost to keep the Dublin Event Guide going and over the years we have found this deal: I do the work and you help me pay the bills through donations. As long as this works, I will continue. If I have to do the work AND pay the bills, I will stop. Fair??? I think so!
I am not asking for a lot, but I think one or two Euro per MONTH is a very fair suggestion. So for the year, this would be 12 Euro or – for people you can afford a bit more – just 24 Euro per year! That is ONLY 23 or 46 cent per Dublin Event Guide edition! An amazingly low cost for the great value that you get every week! :-)
Please donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide
or for Revolut users among you just via 0872931571.
And if 12 Euro is too much for you, then it would be great if you bought one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide and you can do that on the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And come over to www.DublinEventGuide.com to check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps!!

You want for more events and suggestions?
I found a few more things to keep you going or that you might find interesting:
1) HALLOWEEN IS CANCELLED – LET’S CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN
The government’s advise to stay away visiting others seems to cancel Halloween, but does it really? Even while adhering to the advise and recommendations, we can celebrate a modified version of Halloween.
—
If we don’t go into anybody’s house but opt only for brief (and safe) outdoor encounters the spirit of the recommendations is upheld. So if you follow my suggestions from two weeks ago then Halloween can still happen: Only go to neighbours that you have arranged a visit with. You should buy the goodies for your child and put them in a bag, put your child’s name on it and then leave it with the neighbour to give your child when you knock at the door. Double-bag the goodies and then remove the outer bag before your child gets to open it. Inconvenient? Sure! But you will be able to stay within the spirit of the restrictions and still enjoy the magic of Halloween.
—
Alternatively you could consider an “Indoors Halloween”: Let your child go from door to door in your house or apartment and do the “Trick or Treat” there. This is easiest if a number of people live at home because behind every door a different person could “hide”, but even in single parent households you could find a way. But a bed sheet over your head and move like a ghost from door to door while your child waits outside. ;-)
—
And especially for smaller children there are a number of Halloween games and activities that could be done at home (like dunking for apples/apple bobbing). They might have to take priority this year. RTE had a few suggestions as well www.rte.ie/lifestyle/living/2016/0923/818665-5-easy-but-simple-halloween-party-games/
—
All this is a bit trickier for teenagers, but I’d say Trick or Treat wasn’t their highest priority anyway. ;-) Someone suggested a dress-up Zoom call? It doesn’t sound overly exciting, but exceptional times require exceptional measures.
2) OCTOBER IS REUSE MONTH
October is reuse month and the goal is to to raise awareness about the benefits of reusing everyday items and materials that would otherwise go to waste. There are three events that give help and advise and one of them is still to come:
08 Oct: The Big Reuse Event Part 1 www.mywaste.ie/reuse-month-event/the-big-reuse-event-part-1/
15 Oct: The Big Reuse Event Part 2 www.mywaste.ie/reuse-month-event/the-big-reuse-event-part-2/
22 Oct: The Big Reuse Event Part 3 www.mywaste.ie/reuse-month-event/the-big-reuse-event-part-3/
3) Online Courses
Udemy courses are still super popular because as long as we still spend a lot of time at home, it makes sense to use some of that time to learn something new.
Did you learn a new skill in the last few months? In October most Udemy courses will cost between EUR 10.99 and 12.99 again. At some point in August the courses were even reduced to 9.99, but these things happen sometimes without advance warning. I checked though and in September and October there are no 9.99 discounts planned, so you better get the courses when you see form for between 10.99 and 12.99. Please use this link shor.by/GqCk because if you buy through that link, you help the Dublin Event Guide! ;-)
4) Books
A new free Book summary can be found here every week: readitfor.me/91927 Readitfor.me actually provides a number of weekly free book summaries and they also have a special offer at the moment still that will expire soon: For $99 you will get Lifetime access to ALL book summaries! This is a great price if you consider that their normal monthly charge is EUR 10, so in just 10 month you would have spent more than with the lifetime access.
—
To buy physical books and e-books I recommend Book Depository because they are usually cheaper than others and they always include delivery for free (and by using this link you help the Dublin Event Guide). Please don’t use any other links than the one below!! (Book Depository changed all their links and with the old one you don’t help the Dublin Event Guide.) With this link you do help the Dublin Event Guide when you purchase a book and it doesn’t cost you a cent: shor.by/BookDepository
And this is it for another week! Have a good weekend and new week.
