Back at work but hungry for more events and suggestions?
I found a few more things to keep you going in between the events that are listed above. ;-)
1) Virtual Tour of the week
With this week’s virtual tour is related to the next section here, No 2). Workers in some industries can get free access to the Guinness Storehouse, but if you are not so lucky or if a friend with a free ticket wants to convince you to join them, then you can get an impression at this Virtual Tour of the Guinness Storehouse www.virtualvisittours.com/guinness-storehouse/
2) Free Access to Guinness Storehouse for Frontliners
The Guinness Storehouse is re-opening again and they have 100 free tickets per day (until 31 Dec!!) for Frontline Workers (including healthcare, public transport, postal services, supermarkets, haulage, utilities). So if are from one of these industries and have a Work ID, you can visit the Storehouse and you will also get a free pint.
Booking required! www.guinness-storehouse.com/en/frontline
3) Free Books for kids
The app “Rivet” is providing more than 3500 free books for kids! The rivet.area120.com/ The books are age and skill categorised
4) Phoenix Park Gates re-opened!
Great news! The OPW listened to the justified complaints about lack of due process regarding the closure of the Phoenix Park Gates and thez have opened them again yesterday (Friday). That doesn’t mean that they will stay open forever, but the correct procedure is to assess the consequences fully before a decision is made that will affect lots of people. So the gates are open (for now) and a public consultation will be launched to gather the opinions and viewpoints of all affected.
It is the right decision and I wonder if the new government had some impact on this decision. www.thejournal.ie/phoenix-park-gates-reopen-5146133-Jul2020/
5) Multi-Day Events from this week
+ Summer Science Online by the Royal Society London from 13-17 July www.facebook.com/events/573662953295232/ (Registration required)
+ Hotter than July online by Improvised Music Company with music, story-telling and creativity 17-26 July www.facebook.com/events/3072221199493392/
+ The Festival of Curiosity 2020 – Festival of science, arts, design and technology. 16-19 July festivalofcuriosity.ie/programme/ (Registration required)
6) Online Courses
During the Covid lockdown, enrollments in Udemy courses increased by 425%! Wow! What did you learn during that time? In July most Udemy courses will cost between EUR 10.99 and 12.99, so it is not too late yet to learn something new. Use this link shor.by/GqCk because if you buy through that link, you help the Dublin Event Guide! ;-)
7) Books
A free Book summary per week can be found here: readitfor.me/91927
And to buy books I recommend Book Depository because they are usually cheaper than others and they always include delivery for free (and by using this link you help the Dublin Event Guide): www.bookdepository.com/?a_aid=dubevg
Some of you have asked me to continue with the weekly book suggestions, so here is another one.
At the moment you can only pre-order this book and the US Administration is still trying their best to block the book, but it is quite certain that they will fail again. This newest book about Donald Trump is written by his niece, a clinical psychologist, and has the title “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man” by Mary L. Trump. It could provide a really interesting insight into the twisted psyche of the – as she calls it – world’s most dangerous man. www.bookdepository.com/book/9781471190148/?a_aid=dubevg
And this is it for another week! Have a good weekend and new week. Stay sane and safe and smile, laugh and stay in contact with your friends!Take care,
–Joerg
