On one hand I admire journalists and writers for newspapers, because somehow they always manage to fill the pages. I only do this writing thing once a week and only for this short introduction, but I struggle at times with ideas for these few paragraphs.
|
|
I said “on one hand” because on the other hand I now know why they write so much sh*te at times. ;-) AND why they write so much about bad news. It is much easier to whip the nation into a frenzy and to fill pages as a result of that, than if you try to keep it reasonably positive and optimistic.
|
|
|
|
Well, the good news is that cultural events that are even free ARE actually a very positive thing and Dublin has a good range of free events.
|
|
Could there be more? Absolutely! Dublin City was much better a few years ago and I think we have to remind them again and again that we expect more from them!
|
|
By the way: One reason why the Dublin Event Guide is soooo late today is becuse the service I use to send e-mails was absolutely not working. I tried every trick. Hopefully next week will be better again.

One option for writing this introduction would be to let Artificial Intelligence (AI) do that. I gave it a go a few months ago and it was impressive, BUT – and that is an important fact – AI is only as good as the instructions you give it.
|
|
I will explain a LOT more about that in my next “Introduction to AI and ChatGPT” class. A free and completely non-technical overview for everyone of the good and bad sides of Artificial Intelligence. The class is 2 hours long via Zoom and will happen on a weekday in the near future (no date set yet).

+++ Five Lamps Arts Festival
From 11-20 April the Five Lamps Arts Festival takes place. Originally all events were happening in the are around the Five Lamps, an iconic street lamp post in Amiens Street. Now there are even events in South Dublin. Every April one book will be chosen in Dublin for the “One Dublin One Book” Festival. Throughout the whole month, a large range of events will take place in connection with this book. In 2024, the book “Snowflake” by author Louise Nealon was chosen ad – as long as they are free – I will include as many events as possible in the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events). Snowflake is a novel about the growing up of Debbie, a girl from an Irish dairy farm who then starts studying in Trinity College, and her eccentric parents. www.onedublinonebook.ie/
