Merry Christmas!!
Have a wonderful Christmas Weekend!
Hi!!
You might be surprised to see a Dublin Event Guide this week because there will be very very few events, but firstly I want to wish you a Very Merry Christmas!! And secondly, even “few events” means that some events will happen, so I can’t leave you stranded. ;-)
Have a great time over these festive days. If you are with family or friends, enjoy the good sides of this. If you are on your own, make it as special as you can. And if Christmas is just not your thing, do not worry. That is perfectly fine as well. There is no right or wrong!
If you feel alone, reach out to people that you know. And if you have nobody, say Hi on the Dublin Event Guide Facebook page in the comments to this post. I will get back to you and maybe other people will do that too.
I will be in Germany over Christmas spending some time with family. It is my first time at Christmas in Germany for many years (I was here before Christmas for the Christmas markets, but not at Christmas, for quite some time). Where will you be?
If you still have not bought any presents for Christmas this year, you are probably male. ;-) But imagine the horror in Germany: All shops are closed on Sundays (every Sunday!)! As a consequence you would have to do your shopping here TWO days before Christmas Day. Inconvenient, to say the least!!!! :-D
Other than that, Germany is in Christmas mood as much as Dublin is, but – just in case you are not aware – the whole Christmas thing will peak on Sunday evening (24th), not on Monday (25th).
Christmas Eve, not Christmas Day is the important date. On Christmas Eve the Christ Child (not Santa!) will bring the presents. So on Sunday night, Germany is a Santa-free zone. :-o Christmas Day is then just a normal bank holiday, there is no big Christmas Dinner.
Different countries have different Christmas customs. Share yours on the Dublin Event Guide Facebook Page at facebook.com/DublinEventGuide
Thank you for thinking of the Dublin Event Guide this Christmas. If you can, please help with a Christmas present (i.e. a donation) for the Dublin Event Guide. Thank you! donation, a sort of Christmas present for this weekly event publication. All your donations will be used for covering the cost of the Dublin Event Guide, none will go to me.
Donations in December:
EUR 336
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.
Last week, the wonderful people that helped with a donation were Mark, Olwyn, Maria, P. Thanks so much! Your help is much appreciated and is making a difference. Because of you, the Dublin Event Guide continues spreading the word about free events!
With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.
Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

Please note: To speed up the creation of the weekday section of the Dublin Event Guide, I am experimenting with a few minor changes. One is that I am not adding the full address of the venue to all events anymore (for now). If you don’t know where the venue is, you will find it by checking the event link.

Monday 25 December
++ Christmas Day
Merry Christmas from the Dublin Event Guide to all Readers, Followers and Supporters!
+ NO events
On Christmas Day there are Christmas Swims in the morning, then there are some GOAL charity runs in some locations and after that it is back home to get ready for the Christmas Dinner.
A few years ago there was a place in the city centre that invited people without a family to have their Christmas dinner in that pub/restaurant, but I think that has not survived.
For tourists it is a really boring day and I always think we (or rather Tourism Ireland) should warn visitors that Christmas Day is a total write off for them, because there is not a single restaurant open and NO sites that you can visit. A few Spar shops (and similar) are open, that’s all.

+++ Good Bye “Honest to Goodness” Market in Glasnevin
It was with huge sadness that we learned about the closure of the weekly Honest to Goodness market in Glasnevin and this Saturday is the last market, as far as I know. Many of the companies offerinmg their goods at this market have complained about the discontinuation when it was announced, but the organisers don’t see a possibility to continue and so another of Dublin’s popular Markets will regrettably disappear.

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ The Moving Crib is moving again

Admission is free. The address is St Martin Apostolate, 42 Parnell Square West, Dublin 1 www.stmartin.ie/crib/
+++ THE DOCKERS OF DUBLIN PORT – EXHIBITION
From Thursday 23 Nov Dublin Port Company presents the exhibition “Solidarity – The Dockers of Dublin Port”. The exhibition is open every Thursday until Sunday from 11:30-15:30. Admission is free. www.dublinportarchive.com/news_event/solidarity-the-dockers-of-dublin-port
