Dublin Event Guide 837: “Christmas at the Castle” will be back – Stillgarden Pre-Christmas Market, Science Week: Bog in a Bottle Workshop, Print Museum Demo Day

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

“Christmas at the Castle” will be back

Stillgarden Pre-Christmas Market, Science Week: Bog in a Bottle Workshop, Print Museum Demo Day

Hi!!

Great news from the Christmas Market scene in Dublin! The “Christmas at the Castle” market is back this year and the OPW has finally realised that ticketing a Christmas market is a daft idea. So from 06-19 December (only 19 December!!) the market will be in the courtyard of Dublin Castle again.

It is not the best possible Christmas market, but it is Dublin’s best possible Christmas market in the most suitable location in the whole city. So I am very happy that it will be back and that we can forget last year’s panic about tickets.

A market that was meant to take place in the former Dublin City Fruit Market, is now three years in the making and was promoted as Ireland’s largest indoor Christmas Market, will again not happen in 2023. Will it ever happen?

Some problematic news regarding the Dublin Event Guide newsletter. The company that I am using for the last few years and who did a good job in making sure that the deliverability of this weekly e-mail was quite good, has decided to increase their prices by over 70% (!!). So I will have to move once again to a new service provider. This is a lot of work and there is always the risk that your Inbox will reject the newsletter as spam, but I have no choice.

If you are a Dublin Event Guide newsletter subscriber (…and you should be!!! It is free and faster than finding the updates on the Facebook page!) I will a tiny bit of help with it, but I will let you know when the migration will happen. Go to www.DublinEventGuide.com to sign up on the right hand side.

Donations in November:
EUR 122

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week, one wonderful person helped with a donation. Thanks Katia!! Your help is much appreciated and is making a difference. Without it, the Dublin Event Guide can not survive.

After this weekend, there is only one more weekend before the end of the month and we are EUR 80 away from the monthly requirement to pay the bills. On top of that, December is often a tough month for donations and it is also a short month. So I had hoped we would be much further.this month. If you can, please help with a donation! The Dublin Event Guide needs you!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ Entangled Islands – Ireland & the Caribbean

05 Sept-29 Feb – 10:00-17:00 – EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, chq Building, Customs House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: included in normal admission

Discover 400 years of Irish links to the Caribbean in this temporary exhibition (until February 2024) that  tells the stories of a wide range of Irish people who traversed and settled in the Caribbean. It all started in the 17th century, when Irish indentured labourers were among the many thousands transported to work on islands acquired by the English. The Irish in time found their way into positions of power and privilege across the region, whether as plantation owners or colonial governors.
Entangled Islands traces this long and multifaceted history of connection through 19 key figures on either side of the Atlantic, from merchants and enslavers to poets and journalists.
Admission is included in the normal ticket price. Find out more here epicchq.com/entangled-islands/
