Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Culture Night coming up!

Dublin Mind Body Experience, Eat the Streets Festival, Hip Hop Showcase

Hi!!

Last week I wrote about 23 degrees at 23:00, today we had 11 degrees and rain at 21:00. The “normal” Ireland is truly back! Don’t get me wrong, I love Ireland, but even after allllll these years I am still not used to the weather here.

Or maybe I am used to it, but still hope that a miracle will happen. Winning the lotto jackpot is probably more likely than having long lasting good weather in Ireland. ;-)

If we can have just ONE nice evening this coming week, then I would reserve if for next Friday 22 Sept. Because on Friday is Culture Night and that event is so much better if it is dry.

If you don’t know what Culture Night is, then let me describe it: Imagine going out in Dublin on Friday night as a lover of culture and events and from 17:00-22:00 (or 23:00) ALL cultural venues, museums, and galleries are open with free admission and many special events. There will be an amazing positive buzz around the city with thousands and thousands of people enjoying it. Culture Night is one of the best events in Dublin every year. And if you have ANY opportunity to be part of it, go out on Friday and try it out

There are too many events in Dublin on that night to mention them here, so I will make SOME suggestions, but the best idea is to go to www.culturenight.ie

There are still plenty of people putting their name down for another “Introduction to AI and ChatGPT” that I am inviting to and probably next week I will announce the date here. It will be a free 2-hour class and if you are interested, let me know here www.getthislink.com/AIclass2

And if you are part of an organisation or club or maybe at your place of work where there is interest in this topic, reply to this e-mail and tell me more and maybe I could run that class for your community. Both, in person or online is possible.

The attendees at the recent online event said “Very interesting couple of hours!” and “This was invaluable. Thank you so much!” and “I enjoyed every minute.” and “Really interesting and thought provoking presentation, it was really engaging!”

Donations in September:
EUR 219

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week, the wonderful donors were Edward, Fionnuala, Joan, Angela, Thais, Orla! Thank you very much! Your help is much appreciated and is making a difference. Without it, the Dublin Event Guide can not survive.

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ A Complicated History: Ireland and the Caribbean – Talk
Wed 27 Sept – 18:00 – EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, chq Building, Customs House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: Free
Servants and enslavers; merchants and governors; educators and journalists – the history of the Irish in the Caribbean is complex. This talk will survey Irish migration to the region from the 17th century, telling the stories of a diverse range of people who set out to make new lives for themselves in places like Jamaica, Barbados and Cuba. To what extent have Irish people shaped Caribbean societies and economies? And how have Irish-Caribbean relations evolved in the last century?
Dr Catherine Healy, who will give the talk, is Historian-in-Residence at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and she is the curator of a newly opened exhibition on Irish-Caribbean connections.
Admission is free, but booking is required via epicchq.com/event/a-complicated-history-ireland-and-the-caribbean/

The National Botanic Gardens are worth a visit any time of the year, but when the Sculpture in Context exhibition is on, the gardens are EVEN more interesting.

You might have never heard of the Minaw Collective, but you probably have seen their huge paintings on buildings. have a look at the gallery on their website www.minawcollective.com/gallery to recognise some of the art that is full of energy and vibrancy.
The exhibition will run throughout September and on Saturday 09 Sept from 13:00-18:00 you are invited to the launch and a spoken word poetry night at Phase Art Space, 27 Garville Lane, Rathgar, Dublin 6. Admission is free until 19:00. www.facebook.com/events/2456433354523565

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ How It’s Made – Exhibition and Events Series
how it’s made: meitheal is an exhibition and series of events designed to consider how things are extracted from the natural world in modern society and artists reflections of that concept. The exhibition will run from 09-23 September and will be on show in 6 locations in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin.
Artists were paired with engineering experts to learn about how everyday objects are made (i.e. t-shirts, hamburgers, mobile phones, cars, Lego blocks). The artists were invited to create an artful manifestation of the process for a group exhibition, :meitheal (an old Irish term that describes how neighbours would come together to assist in the saving of crops or in other tasks)
The event and exhibition locations are the Warehouse, Vault, Window, Hub and Castle in Balbriggan but the organisers don’t make it too easy to find addresses for the locations. You will have to go to reclaimingthearts.org/ to find them.
The event page for the “How it’s made” is at scealcollective.com/how-its-made-programme/
Opening events are on Sat 09 September and there are a number of workshops on Sunday 10 Sept.

+++ IKEA Crafting / Music / Cooking Workshops
Ikea in Ballymun runs a variety of crafting, music and cooking workshops and there are still some places available. The workshops are free and go for 45 minutes and are for children. Check them out on www.ikea.com/ie/en/stores/events/ikea-ballymun/

+++ Some more events:
Find Library events here www.dublincity.ie/events
