Dublin Event Guide 806: Follow Joe’s footsteps: Free admission at Dublin Castle and Farmleigh House

April 15th, 2023

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Follow Joe’s footsteps:

Free admission at Dublin Castle and Farmleigh House

Hi!

How was your Easter? It was great to see that there were lots of free events happening. Naturally they were more geared towards children, but it still is a good sign.

I am still hoping that there will be a “free event recovery” of some sort. Lots of event venues have given up on free events though, it seems. Whelan’s haven’t promoted a single free event in at least 3 months via their website.

Sin E has given up on sharing their events on the website completely. The Grand Social has plenty of events, but the vast majority is quite pricey and free events are hard to find.

I could continue, but let’s look at the upside: It leaves a gap in the event landscape that could and hopefully will be filled by pubs or other venues that couldn’t get the visitors they need to have a live band.

This week you can follow Joe Biden’s footsteps by visiting Dublin Castle for free on Saturday and Famleigh House on Saturday and Sunday. Not sure food will be served, but you can see the table he had food at! ;-)

Remember that Book Depository will close in just 10 days and get your orders in before 26 April. After that they will be gone forever. Use this link shor.by/BookDepository, get lower priced books for no delivery charge and also help the Dublin Event Guide.

You might wonder if your order is safe and will definitely be fulfilled. I am not worried about that at all. Because Book Depository is owned by Amazon and is not closing because they are in trouble, but instead because Amazon doesn’t want to have in-house competition (never mind the official reasons!) I am quite certain that all orders will arrive with you as long as the books are available at the time of placing the order.

Donations in April:
EUR 161

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Thank you soo much for helping again this week! The great people who donated were Des and Natacha. Thank you! :-) Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week.I appreciate you and your support!

The 800th anniversary donations in March were EUR 250 and for now, I keep that separate from the donations for the monthly bills. The reason for that is that I plan to use that money to fix and modernise the Dublin Event Guide website. It really needs it and I was postponing that for a long time of the cost that are not covered by the normal donations.

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ One Dublin One Book
One Dublin One Book is a Dublin City Council initiative, led by Dublin City Libraries, that encourages everyone to read a chosen book connected with Dublin during April every year.
The chosen book this year is “The Coroner’s Daughter”, a crime fiction novel by Andrew Hughes.
There will be approximately 20 events throughout April in connection with the book and the festival and many of them are free. You find the events under “Events” on www.onedublinonebook.ie/

+++ TCD Talks
With a campus in the middle of the city, Trinity College talks and at times also events are in most cases open to the public. The talks can be found at www.tcd.ie/news_events/events/?day=03&month=04&year=2023&search=week and on the subsequent pages. SOME of the events are in the listings above, but only some.

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,
