Is this it? The end of the Dublin Event Guide on Facebook? Something happened, I am not sure if it was a change in the Facebook Algorithm again or if they started to dislike the Dublin Event Guide, butt wo weeks ago the weekly post shown to 15,000 people, last week it was shown to less than 2,000 people. Out of 83,000 Followers, this is a joke. And actually, this is the best description of what Facebook has become in the last few years: a joke!

Facebook was a big contributor to the Dublin Event Guide’s success in the early years.The Dublin Event Guide was in the Top 10 list of most popular groups in Ireland for about 2 years (before Facebook got rid of groups and I lost all 4,000 followers, just to re-instate groups a few years later, but the 4,000 were gone).
|
|
In peak times, my posts reached 60,000 people, but then Facebook smelled the money and started to show posts only if customers paid for it. At less than 2,000 it is really not worth the effort anymore. The 800th anniversary donations in March were EUR 250 and for now, I keep that separate from the donations for the monthly bills. The reason for that is that I plan to use that money to fix and modernise the Dublin Event Guide website. It really needs it and I was postponing that for a long time of the cost that are not covered by the normal donations.

+++ Spring into Heritage – Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown – Free tours
Usually twice a year, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown offers free guided tours at major local heritage landmarks. The spring version is taking place from 10 April until 07 May. The tours are really interesting. They take place at at specific times and the sites covered are National Maritime Museum, Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre, Cabinteely House, James Joyce Tower and Museum, The Oratory, Marlay House, Fernhill Park & Gardens.

There are also two history talks (“The Metals” on 19 April and “The Borough Environment Through The 20th Century” on 03 May). Both talks need to be pre-booked as well and you should do that soon if you are interested. The booking link is on the same website above.

+++ One Dublin One Book
One Dublin One Book is a Dublin City Council initiative, led by Dublin City Libraries, that encourages everyone to read a chosen book connected with Dublin during April every year.
The chosen book this year is “The Coroner’s Daughter”, a crime fiction novel by Andrew Hughes.
There will be approximately 20 events throughout April in connection with the book and the festival and many of them are free. You find the events under “Events” on www.onedublinonebook.ie/
