Dublin Event Guide 800: Dublin Event Guide Anniversary! – A whopping 800 Editions since 2007

March 4th, 2023

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Dublin Event Guide Anniversary!

A whopping 800 Editions since 2007

Good Morning!

You see it already in the headline this week, today is a big day for me! This is the 800th edition of the Dublin Event Guide and that means that for 800 weeks, that’s more than 15 years, the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” has been created week after week and was sent to you.

In these 800 editions, I have listed more than 100,000 free events as I have calculated recently and I have sent well over 10,000,000 e-mails to all the subscribers. These are just MAD numbers, but they are also remarkable numbers. Crazy what accumulates over time!

I hope you are enjoying the Dublin Event Guide, no matter how long you are with me on this journey. Maybe this is your first Dublin Event Guide or maybe your 800th (yes, there are still a few people from day one!) I am happy that you are with me and that we are on this journey together!

I’d say that for many of you this 800th anniversary is not as huge as for me, that is totally understandable. But if you had sat wit me in front of my laptops week after week for 800 weeks, you would definitely understand. :-) And I appreciate your support no matter how excited you are about the 800 editions.

If you would like to celebrate it with me, I would appreciate a donation (the normal way as described below) or you could buy me a glass of Prosecco to celebrate here: www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

I am celebrating this milestone by getting my coaching certificate as a Padel coach this weekend! Some of you know that a few years ago I got hooked on playing Padel (a.k.a. Padel Tennis) and this Saturday and Sunday I will do a coaching course. (If you want to know more about Padel, let me know!)

After that slightly longer than usual intro, now let’s get going with the free events this weekend and for next week. If you are reading this in Facebook, then you will ONLY find the free events for the weekend in this post. All events for next week can be found at www.DublinEventGuide.com

In addition to the continuation of the Irish Language Week Seachtain na Gaeilge (01-17 March – snag.ie/en/), this coming week will also be Engineering Week (04-10 March – www.engineersireland.ie/Schools/Engineers-Week), Creative Brain Week (06-11 Mar – creativebrainweek.com/) and Local Enterprise Week (06-10 March – www.localenterprise.ie/Portal/Week/Local-Enterprise-2023.html). BUSY!!

Donations in March:
EUR 193

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were Freddy, Lesley, Edmond, Estelle, Ricardo, Catherine, Orla, Cathal, William and Christina. I am blown away! Thank you sooooo much! :-) Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week.I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

++ Lights, Camera, Action: The Irish in Hollywood (as Gaeilge)
Sat 04 & Sat 11 March – 10:00-11:00 – EPIC, chq Building, Customs House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: EUR 17.50
With a record 14 nominations at this year’s Oscars, it would appear we’re entering a golden era for Irish filmmaking. However, Irish people have played crucial rules in Hollywood and beyond for decades and have helped to shape the modern film industry as directors, actors, writers, animators, producers and more.
Dublin born inventor Lucien Bull was an early pioneer of high speed photography, without which the Hollywood film industry would not exist. Others like the legendary actor, choreographer and Oscar winner Gene Kelly had roots in Ireland while the original designer of the famous Oscar statute Cedric Gibbons was also a proud member of the Irish diaspora.
The Tour will be in Irish.
Find out more about people from Ireland or with Irish roots in the film industry.

++ Tiny Tots: Seachtain na Gaeilge  (Age 3-6)
Sun 12 March – 10:00-10:45 – EPIC, chq Building, Customs House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: EUR 15 (1 Adult + 1 Child)
We invite all Tiny Tots (Age 3-6) to an interactive storytelling experience at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. Meet EPIC’s famous figures in these workshops.
This month, join Draíocht the Seanchaí, the ancient Irish storyteller, on a fun adventure around Ireland, discovering all things Irish in this special “Seachtain na Gaeilge” Tiny Tots workshop.
Along with Draíocht the Seanchaí and using a mixture of Irish and English, you will sing Irish songs, learn simple Irish phrases and words, explore traditional Irish foods, hear Ireland’s famous folklore and learn about EPIC’s famous figures.
Get your tickets (1 adult + 1 child) and find more details at epicchq.com/event/tiny-tots/

And there is more…

+++ Local Enterprise Week
From 06-10 March the Local Enterprise Week will take place all over Ireland. If you are interested in Enterprise related topics, check out the list of events here www.localenterprise.ie/Week
There are five headline events that are free and open to everybody. In addition there are many other regional events that often happen on Zoom and therefore are not limited to the region. Many of them are free, others cost 10 or 20 Euro. The events in Dublin are here www.localenterprise.ie/DublinCity/Enterprise-Development/Local-Enterprise-Week-Dublin-City-Events-2023/

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY)
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon. And Book Depository always delivers for free. By buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you, so two good reasons in one. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

+++ Seachtain na Gaeilge
From 01-17 March the Irish Language Festival “Seachtain na Gaeilge” will be back. The website snag.ie/ or peig.ie/ allegedly has all the events, but even with the English translation of the websites I didn’t find it easy to reveal the full list. I hope you will be luckier.

+++ Discover Dublin Docklands App
Dublin City has a new app that allows us to discover iconic Dublin landmarks such as the famine statues, the CHQ building and more.
The app is available to download for free via doorsintodocklands.com/
After you got the app, you can point your phone at the landmarks and this will prompt the related images, videos and stories to pop up.
The app uses Augmented Reality (AR), a mix of 3D graphics, animation and audio, to immerse users in the story of the city.
Several colourful characters from history will also appear in AR to tell their tales. These include Captain Bligh who surveyed Dublin Bay in the 1800s and Maggie Doyle, who was a docker’s daughter.

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.
