Dublin Event Guide 787: Lots of Christmas Markets – St. Enda’s Park Christmas Craft Fair, Dandelion Christmas Market, Christmas at Farmleigh, Family Fun Day at National Museum, Santa Cycle

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Lots of Christmas Markets

St. Enda’s Park Christmas Craft Fair, Dandelion Christmas Market, Christmas at Farmleigh, Family Fun Day at National Museum, Santa Cycle

Happy Saturday!!! :-)

[I am late again, I know! Christmas Party last night and then trying to write a Dublin Event Guide with lots and lots of events are two quite incompatible feats. ?]

Around 2016 I created a website called “Dublin Christmas Markets” at www.DublinChristmasMarkets.com there were years when I didn’t get around to updating it and until this year, it looked a little dated, so I did a refresh and have added the 2022 Christmas Markets and now the website is waiting for you to use it! ;-)

If you are looking for a simple listing of the Christmas Markets in Dublin 2022, you will find them all there. And over time, I will make the website a little more attractive by adding pictures etc. If you go to markets this year and take some good pictures that you are ok to share, please send them to me and I will attribute the pictures to you (put your social media link on them) if I use them!

Only three more weeks to Christmas and time is FLYING! Christmas Parties are in full swing, school concerts for parents, carol singing will start VERY soon and all the other things that Christmas brings every year (in normal years!). And it is just like a normal year in Ireland.

So let’s enjoy the community again that we so need! The friends, the chats, the time together, that we so missed in the last two years.

When I look at the list of event and what sort of events some venues run (and what prices they charge) it is clear that there is not just a simple returning to 2019 happening. Some things will have changed forever (some venues that ran lots of free events before now run not a single free event anymore!) But in general, we are very resilient and my prediction that we will return to (nearly all) our behaviours from before that mess, seem to come true!

Donations in December:
EUR 36

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were Andreea and Giorgio! Thank you so much! Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

Bring your 3-6 year old to this interactive storytelling experience at EPIC and meet EPIC’s famous figures on our way to the North Pole!
Did you know that polar bears come from Ireland? Scientists have discovered that they can trace their family tree to Ireland and that they are descended from Irish brown bears that lived during the last ice age.
One such polar bear, Nollaig, needs your help! He has received a letter from his Irish Granny, inviting him home for Christmas day – but some of the instructions are missing! Help him navigate home by finding and making all the items he needs for his journey in this interactive storytelling experience.
This is a special sensory, immersive workshop in which parents and children will work together to bring the magic of the story to life – creating, making, interacting, singing, acting and experimenting along the way. Children will create a very special winter canvas to gift to someone for Christmas.

+++ All OPW Event websites are down!!
This weekend all event websites that are run by the OPW are down, so some links that are in the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) might not work. The sites that are affected are National Botanic Gardens, Dublin Castle, Phoenix Park Visitor Centre and Farmleigh House. Unfortunately this is not the first time that the sites are all down on a weekend. :-(

+++ Live Animal Crib – Now in Stephen’s Green Park
The current (temporary*) mayor of Dublin did her best to kill off the Live Animal Crib that traditionally was outside of Mansion House to have some new Christmas display there. But after 27 years in Dublin, the Live Animal Crib is too popular and many many people were involved in finding a new place for the crib.
This year it will now be at the Summer House in St. Stephen’s Green park from Thu 08 Dec until midday on Fri 23 Dec. The Summer House is next to the lake in the park. The animals will be there from morning until late afternoon every day.
(*All mayors of Dublin are unelected by the people of Dublin and are appointed for one year only.) www.ifa.ie/resources/live-animal-crib-coming-to-st-stephens-green/

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY)
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon. And Book Depository always delivers for free. By buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you, so two good reasons in one. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository

+++ “Traditional Henry Street Christmas Market”? Sure?
If you get to Henry Street after Saturday, please let me know: Yesterday I received an e-mail from Dublin City. It was a media invite to a “Henry Street and Mary Street Christmas Market” and it said “Lord Mayor of Dublin, Caroline Conroy will officially open the traditional Christmas Market in the heart of Dublin. Dublin City Council welcomes the return of Dublin’s oldest Christmas Market.”
I know that Street Traders sell goods on Henry Street before Christmas and they do that for many years already, but would you really call that a “traditional Christmas Market”? Unless it is very different from previous years, I would NOT call it that.
What is your opinion? Send it to dublineventguide@gmail.com and if you have a picture, maybe you can include it.
The people in Dublin City Council still seem to be challenged understanding what people expect from a Christmas Market.

+++ Dublin Art Book Fair 2022: A Caring Matter

The 2022 version of the ” Dublin Art Book Fair 2022″ will take place in Temple Bar Gallery + Studios from 24 Nov until 04 Dec. In addition to a big book fair, there will be Talks, Open Studios, Book Launches and discussions. Find all events at www.templebargallery.com/exhibitions/dublin-art-book-fair-2022

+++ Libraries as Places of Sanctuary – Library Week
From 04-10 December this year’s Library Ireland Week will take place and the theme is “Libraries as Places of Sanctuary”. There are lots of events taking place online and in libraries in Ireland and you can find them here libraryirelandweek.ie/

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ The Moving Crib – On Display

The Moving Crib at the Saint Martin Apostolate in 42 Parnell Square West, Dublin 1 is on display for the 66th year from 24 November until 08 January from 11:00-17:30 every day.

(Closed: Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day & New Year’s Day. Early closing on Christmas Eve & New Year’s Day at 15:00).

The Moving Crib is a huge installation in the basement of the St Martin Apostolate building that shows a range of crib & bible scenes with moving figures in each scene.

November might still be a bit early, but closer to Christmas, it is a nice destination with your little ones to discover the stories in the display together (as long as the bible is relevant in your or their lives). Admission is free and booking is not required. www.stmartin.ie/crib/

+++ Housing Unlocked Exhibition
The “Housing Unlocked” exhibition is described as a celebration of innovation, optimism and imagination. Eight architect-led proposals will be presented that are intended to unlock the housing potential in our villages, towns and cities.
Housing Unlocked is a partnership between the Irish Architecture Foundation and The Housing Agency.
The exhibition will be open from 14 Oct-18 Dec and from 02-21 Jan (Tues-Fri: 12:00-17:00, Sat: 14:00-17:00). It will take place in the former Science Gallery in Pearse Street (Naughton Institute of TCD). Admission is free. housingunlocked.ie/

+++ Trinity College Talks/Lectures/Seminars
Trinity College is offering really interesting talks and LOTS of them. There are so many that I can’t include them all, so please check out www.tcd.ie/news_events/events/ and if you check before Monday, then click on “NEXT WEEK” towards the top to see all the events that take place next week. Most, but not all talks from the Trinity Long Room Hub are in that list, but often you find more here www.tcd.ie/trinitylongroomhub/whats-on/upcoming.php

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,

–Joerg (dublineventguide@gmail.com)
