Dublin Event Guide 785: Four weeks of fun. Or not? – Plant Science Festival, Useless Project Flea Market, Rainbow Umbrella Christmas Market

November 19th, 2022

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Four weeks of fun. Or not?

Plant Science Festival, Useless Project Flea Market,
Rainbow Umbrella Christmas Market

Happy Saturday!!! :-)

The next four weeks will be the best four weeks of the year for some and the worst four weeks for others. And I am not at all talking about the Christmas preparations.

But no matter which camp you are in, they will be odd for all because this is just not the right time for it! I am sure you guessed what I am referring to, right?

Yes, it is the FIFA World Cup from this Sunday (20 November) until just before Christmas (the final will be on 18 December).

Because it will take place in Qatar, it is not only very controversial because of the atrocious human rights record that Qatar has, but it also will take place at the oddest time ever. All the normal great outdoor summer football parties and events can’t happen and the World Cup will have to share the living room with the Christmas Tree.

During the week I was talking to somebody who said that he loves football, but hates Christmas and his wife loves Christmas, but hates football. So maybe this pre-Christmas World Cup is not the worst for that couple. It won’t unite them in their interests, but both can focus on something they love at the same time (albeit separately) instead of both feeling that they have to suffer for 4 full weeks. ;-)

Donations in November:
EUR 195

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were Orla and Gabriela! Thank you so much! Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Check out the UDEMY course prices for Black Friday! Many courses are already available for just EUR 9.99. This is the time to get the courses you want to learn! ;-)
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get!

Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ Tuscan Buffet Party [Ad]
Do you like Italian Food and Wine? Then this event, organised by Gianni from the “Italian Food and Wine in Ireland” meetup group, is definitely for you! Gianni invites to the Mount Merrion Community Centre, where on Sun 20 Nov from 17:45-21:00 he will introduce you to a great variety of delicacies from the region in Italy he comes from. There will be breads, cold cuts, sausages and cheeses on a buffet and there will be Tuscan wine.
Meet other foodies and friends of Italy and of Italian food and find out more about Tuscany.
The Mount Merrion Community Centre is only 500 metres from the N11 (Stillorgan Road) which is served by the bus routes 46A, 155, 145, 7B and a good few more. So it is really easy to get there. There is also plenty of free parking.
Tickets are EUR 31 per person and are available via www.getthislink.com/TuscanBuffet (Booking required)

+++ Dublin Art Book Fair 2022: A Caring Matter

+++ The Moving Crib – Back on Display

The Moving Crib at the Saint Martin Apostolate in 42 Parnell Square West, Dublin 1 is on display for the 66th year from 24 November until 08 January from 11:00-17:30 every day.

(Closed: Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day & New Year’s Day. Early closing on Christmas Eve & New Year’s Day at 15:00).

The Moving Crib is a huge installation in the basement of the St Martin Apostolate building that shows a range of crib & bible scenes with moving figures in each scene.

November might still be a bit early, but closer to Christmas, it is a nice destination with your little ones to discover the stories in the display together (as long as the bible is relevant in your or their lives). Admission is free and booking is not required. www.stmartin.ie/crib/

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY)
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon. And Book Depository always delivers for free. By buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you, so two good reasons in one. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

+++ Housing Unlocked Exhibition
The “Housing Unlocked” exhibition is described as a celebration of innovation, optimism and imagination. Eight architect-led proposals will be presented that are intended to unlock the housing potential in our villages, towns and cities.
Housing Unlocked is a partnership between the Irish Architecture Foundation and The Housing Agency.
The exhibition will be open from 14 Oct-18 Dec and from 02-21 Jan (Tues-Fri: 12:00-17:00, Sat: 14:00-17:00). It will take place in the former Science Gallery in Pearse Street (Naughton Institute of TCD). Admission is free. housingunlocked.ie/

+++ Trinity College Talks/Lectures/Seminars
Trinity College is offering really interesting talks and LOTS of them. There are so many that I can’t include them all, so please check out www.tcd.ie/news_events/events/ and if you check before Monday, then click on “NEXT WEEK” towards the top to see all the events that take place next week.Most, but not all talks from the Trinity Long Room Hub are in that list, but often you find more here www.tcd.ie/trinitylongroomhub/whats-on/upcoming.php

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,

–Joerg (dublineventguide@gmail.com)
