Dublin Event Guide 774: Autumn Festivals and more – National Service Day, Liberties Festival, International Screenwriting Festival, Biodiversity Festival

September 3rd, 2022

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

Autumn Festivals and more

National Service Day, Liberties Festival, International Screenwriting Festival, Biodiversity Festival

Good Morning!

School is back, holidays are over (for most) and normality (whatever exactly that is) has returned. It is that time of the year again when the summer-free-wheeling, the happy more careless times in warm weather are coming to an end. September usually shows a last resistance against the colder part of the year, but after a bit of “Indian Summer” (a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather that sometimes occurs in autumn), the Irish weather that we love to complain about returns and will be with us until March or April.

Depressing? No, not at all! Every season has its good sides and bad sides and it is our job to look out for them and then focus on the good things. And as if you asked me for help, I have some good things for you! Every week! And all these good things are free! :-)

The highlight this month is Culture Night on 23 September. For the whole evening from around 17:00 until 22:00 (or in some places 23:00), cultural venues are open late and they are not just open, but they also run extra events/tours/talks/concerts etc. The City Centre is buzzing at Culture Night and it is a great buzz! People are happy and friendly and smiling. Check out the Culture Night programme at culturenight.ie/ I will mention SOME events in the Dublin Event Guide on 17 Sep, but because there are soooo many events, it will only be a very small number and you need to check the website either way.

The “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” will be a little different for the next two weeks (09+16 Sept). It will be MUCH shorter because I will be away on holidays. This is a rare thing, and I have never been away for 2 weeks, imagine! I also haven’t been on real holidays for years (visits to Germany are not REAL holidays ;-) )!

So, I had to decide if I will send you a short Dublin Event Guide or NO Dublin Event Guide. I hope that my decision is your interest: It will probably be a short version, with the main events! But don’t be upset if I have such a good time that there won’t be any newsletter next week. We’ll see! :-D

Donations in September:
EUR 172

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were David, Lee and Juliana ! Thank you so much! Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

Investigate how these figures contributed not only to air-travel, but also to women’s rights and even the Olympics! From testing out your aviation skills – leaning about secret codes, maths and cloud spotting, to designing eye-catching newspaper headlines and creating your very own airplane, you will discover what it is really like to be an Aviator and take to the skies! Suitable for Age 7-12.
Limited places available, booking required. Find out more details at epicchq.com/event/explorers-club-awesome-aviators/

Up, up, up and away! In Tiny Tots this month, you and your tot will join trailblazing Limerick Aviator Lady Mary Heath on an adventure of EPIC proportions this September.
Alongside Heath, we will make our way around the world hopping on different forms of air transport from country to country, such as birds, planes, drones, kites and balloons! Together, we will sing songs about flying and soaring up above the clouds, we’ll count geese, and you will even get the chance to create your very own hot air balloon that you will be able to take home with you!
Tiny Tots is an interactive storytelling experience to aid with your child’s development. Booking required. epicchq.com/event/tiny-tots-aviators/

Join us as we soar through clouds, wind and rain to land in places like Italy, Egypt and Sri Lanka! To motivate us on our journey we will sing songs about flying through the skies, and once our journey is completed, we will be creating our very own messy play airplane painting to take home with us!

+++ NATIONAL SERVICES DAY
This Saturday 03 Sept is the yearly National Services Day, a day on which the front line services in Ireland from the Armed Forces and Gardai, via the HSE and the Firefighters to the Ambulance Services and Mountain Rescue are celebrated. In Dublin there are two main events. The first is a parade from Parnell Square via O’Connell Street and Dame Street to Dublin Castle. The parade assembles from 11:00 at the Garden of Remembrance and leaves at 12:00. You can support the services by lining the streets and waving and cheering. 100 vehicles and marching groups and bands will be part of the parade.
The second main event is an exhibition of service vehicles and equipment in the courtyard of Dublin Castle from 09:00-17:00. www.facebook.com/events/1366192430544817

+++ LOW PRICED BOOKS (WITH FREE DELIVERY)
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon. And Book Depository always delivers for free. By buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you, so two good reasons in one. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
