Dublin Event Guide 756: E. Musk, pick us! ;-) – Sculpture Day, Brass Fest, Bealtaine Festival, Bray Jazz Festival

April 30th, 2022

Dublin Event Guide (for free events)

E. Musk, pick us! ;-)

Sculpture Day, Brass Fest, Bealtaine Festival, Bray Jazz Festival

Hi all!

After the big Twitter news over the last few days, I wish I could tell you that Elon Musk wants to buy the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”. :-D And that he wants to continue with a similarly great service but with a whole range of improvements (and it will be sent earlier every week – I KNOW!!). ;-) Wouldn’t that be great news? I would use some of the money to fix a good few things that otherwise (with no money) might never happen! If you know Elon, maybe you could call him LOL

We don’t have Elon, BUT I have to say that your donations help a LOT! And while it all might seem slow, there are changes happening all the time due to your help! So thank you very very much!

Writing about (free) events is one of the things I do and love. Running events is another things I do and am getting into more and more. (I run the technical side of online and hybrid conferences for companies and organisations and if you know anyone who needs help, think of me, please.) And then there is a third event-related thing that I am involved with and that is speaking at events.

Maybe you saw it last week already and with a bit of luck you even registered (I would love it if many of you could attend!). This weekend, on Saturday from 14:00-17:30 I will be speaking at “The Prosperity Creator Event”, a half day conference that have planned and am running with some friends of mine who are experts in their field.

I will talk about how your thinking influences your success and your results in your own life. I will touch on mindset and will talk about how you talk to yourself and how small changes will be able to dramatically change your life for the better. There are two other main speakers who will talk about online marketing and cry pto inves tment and there is more information on the event and registration page www.getthislink.com/ProsperityCreator

The topics are varied based on the thinking that you need to fix your own mind first, then you probably want to start a business or something similar that needs to be promoted via social media and the money that you make needs to be put in the right place so that you multiply it. So the three topics fit well together!

Join me via www.getthislink.com/ProsperityCreator on the Airmeet Conference Platform. I will be the first speaker at around 14:00, so if you only have 1 hour, then come at that time! But if you have a bit more time, stay for the whole event.

Donations in May:
EUR 194

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week the great people that helped with a donation were Lutz, Tanya, Candace, Tasha, Michael, Adrian, Gizem, Sarah, Flora, Laura, Claire, Deborah!! Thank you so much! You and your donation are VERY much appreciated and keep the Dublin Event Guide alive! AND they make me happy! ;-)

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

And there is more…

+++ International Sculpture Day 2022
International Sculpture Day is encouraging a focus on sculptures across Dublin. We have lots of them and there are tours and talks and other events organised and it seems all is free. Great idea to focus on the sculptures, but the website is soooo difficult to navigate that you loose the will to continue after a few clicks. Have a look at www.sculpturedublin.ie/international-sculpture-day/ I didn’t have the extensive time needed to fish out a few good events for you, so you have to do it yourself. Luckily the sculptures in Dublin are much more accessible than the website.

+++ Bealtaine Festival
Every May, the Bealtaine Festival takes place. Bealtaine is Ireland’s national festival which “celebrates the arts and creativity as we age” and is run by Age & Opportunity. This is a oddly cumbersome description, but it expresses the difficult balance act between what the Bealtaine Festival essentially once was, a festival for old people, and what it wants to be, an inclusive festival for everyone who is older than around 50 without calling them old yet. A difficult balance act. And the saying “if you want to be something for everyone, you will be nothing for anybody” comes to mind. If you asked me, I would describe the Bealtaine Festival as a cultural festival for older people who otherwise don’t get much involved in events and culture and it has a REALLY important function in that role. It makes getting out and meeting others more accessible for many people. It is just a pity that it is limited to one month per year. There is a large number of events and you will find them all at bealtaine.ie/events-2022/ but this year the Bealtaine festival seems to be much smaller than in previous years. If you want to limit your search to events in Dublin City, you can use this link bealtaine.ie/bealtaine-event/?_sft_event_county=dublin-dublin-city and find 52 events. Many of them are free events, so have a look! A few of the free events will be in the listings above over the next 4 weeks, but only a few. ) Your mail has to be with me by 12:00 on Monday 23 May.

+++ COMPETITION: Gospel Rising Music Festival – Ticket Competition
Do you know about the Gospel Rising Music Festival? A great group of people organise this amazing Gospel Music Festival every year (with a bit of a break due to some global health issue recently) for the last 10 years or so. I was at the festival myself a few times and ran a workshop at the last festival three years ago.

Gospel Rising is back and will take place in DCU in Drumcondra from 17-19 June. Check out gospelrising.com/ for all details. You can book individual workshops or the whole weekend and until 09 May there are still some Early Bird tickets available. (gospelrising.com/festival-2022/tickets-2022)

A brand new event during the festival is the “Know Your Lyrics – Gospel Rising Music Game Show” in The Sugar Club. It will be lots of fun: Two teams compete to pick the right lyrics of well known gospel music songs. Led by their host and with the help of the audience, two fantastic piano players will captain their team of gospel singers through a series of rounds against the clock to guess the hidden song lines. Remember the “Lyrics Board” on RTE? Yes, there are some similarities! ;-)

The Gospel Rising organisers made two pairs of tickets available for the “Know Your Lyrics – Gospel Rising Music Game Show” on 18 June and if you would like to win, you have to send an e-mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with GOSPEL RISING in the subject line.
Your mail has to include your full name and mobile phone number in the body of the mail and you have to tell me in which Dublin Park the “Super Soul Sunday” will take place on Sunday 19 June. (Hint: gospelrising.com/2022/early-bird-weekend-tickets-now-on-sale) Your mail has to be with me by 12:00 on Monday 23 May.

+++ The Cobblestone Last Waltz … or maybe not?
Check out the Facebook Page of the Cobblestone in Smithfield. Lots of musicians and bands are performing their “Last Waltz” due to the threat of closure of the Cobblestone. …and then in the middle of it all is the message that was posted yesterday and that says “Planning application has been withdrawn”! “Stay of execution” or a change of fortunes for the Cobblestone? Only the next few weeks and months will tell, but the Cobblestone supporters are – for now – celebrating, which is totally understandable! www.facebook.com/thecobblestone

+++ COMPETITION: The Psychology Of Serial Killers – Talk
On Sunday 08 May, crime expert Jennifer Rees will explore one of Forensic Psychology’s most troubling topics: “The Psychology Of Serial Killers”. Jennifer will discuss the differences between male and female serial killers, incorporating case studies to illustrate. She will also investigate the phenomenon of killer couples and explain why killers gain admirers, fan mail and even spouses despite their atrocious crimes.
The event will take place in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel at Newlands Cross from 19:30-22:00. More information is available on www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Ireland/Louis-Fitzgerald-Hotel-Newlands-Cross/The-Psychology-Of-Serial-Killers-/36012155/ and that is also where you can buy tickets (Adm: EUR 25) To help spreading the word about the event, the organisers made one pair of tickets available for a competition in the Dublin Event Guide. If you would like to win the tickets, you can enter the competition by sending an e-mail with subject line SERIAL to dublineventguide@gmail.com with your name and mobile phone number. Your e-mail has to be with me by 12:00 on Monday 02 May.

+++ Live Collision International Festival Live
Collision International Festival is a yearly festival of Live Art. It will take place in the Project Arts Centre in Essex Street East, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 and will run from Wed 27 until Sat 30 April. The programme for this year’s festival is at www.livecollision.com/programme-2022/ but unfortunately it is one of these programmes where you have to work hard to find out the relevant information. There are a few free events, it seems, good luck finding them!

+++ Low Priced Books with free delivery
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon and Book Depository always delivers for free. And by buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository
  .

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or NLP or some Business related “soft skills”? Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest cost for courses this month will be around 12.99. Check out the website at shor.by/GqCk And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,

–Joerg (dublineventguide@gmail.com)
