Hi all!
As you know, I always keep a close eye on what is happening in the events scene in Dublin and there is finally some substantial movement at the moment.
The 40,000 “unmasked” GAA attendees in Croke Park had an impact! The lobbying of the “Event Industry Association of Ireland” (EIAI) is pushing things in the right direction as well and the lack of adherence to |
the current rules and recommendations on the streets of Dublin is also sending a strong signal to politicians in Ireland that something has to be done. And we know that they need a LOT of pushing before things move. ;-)
It is difficult to explain why the Artane Boys Band is allowed to play in front of 40,000 people in a stadium, but if a brass band played in a park in front of 250 people it would be against the rules and if a 4 piece band played in a pub or at a wedding in front of 50 people it would also get the authorities on the case. |
We need some clear, justifiable and scientifically defendable rules and timelines and not the current complicated and random mess of rules and regulations.
And there is hope now that either on 31 August (or in the next few weeks after that), these rules and regulations will get overhauled and simplified. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!!!
This weekend should have been the weekend of the Ukulele Hooley in Dun Laoghaire, an outdoor, daytime event with a great vibe that usually attracted just a few a few hundred people. It is such a pity that everything fell by the wayside. Will 2022 bring these events back? That’s another thing to keep the fingers crossed for! |
Donations in August:
EUR 432
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.) |
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter on the left shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be extracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over. |
Last week the wonderful people that donated were Ian, David, Tania, Kiki, Martha and Tim. THANK YOU! Your donation has arrived and you are appreciated!!
Instead of stopping the counter, I have decided to keep it fully transparent and leave it here, so that you know at all times where we stand and I also decided to keep the donation option there. There will definitely be some additional bonuses soon, which will be available to the people that have donated. :-)
And here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

+++ SCULPTURE IN CONTEXT – National Botanic Gardens
The Sculpture in Context exhibition is taking place again this year in the National Botanic Gardens. It is a great exhibition where sculptures are “planted” in lots of different places in the Botanic Gardens, making the park even more interesting. The exhibition will run from 02 Sept-15 Oct, so there is plenty of time to see it, but put it on your list, otherwise you will leave it to the last weekend (as I have done tooo often in the past ;-) ). www.sculptureincontext.com/ Admission to the National Botanic Gardens is always free and opening hours are 10:00-17:00 every day of the week.
+++ National Gallery tickets available here
The National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: www.nationalgallery.ie/visit-us/book-your-ticket The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here www.nationalgallery.ie/whats-on and then book tickets for them.
+++ Visit Dublin Castle for free
Until the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15). Tickets can be booked at dublincastle.admit-one.eu/?p=calendar&ev=SELFGUIDE for free there will also a limited number of tickets available at the ticket desk.
+++ Low Priced Books with free delivery
Book Depository is the place where you can buy low priced books, usually for better prices than on Amazon and Book Depository always delivers for free. And by buying books from Book Depository you will also help the Dublin Event Guide for no additional cost to you. Use this link: shor.by/BookDepository .
+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or NLP or some Business related “soft skills”? Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest cost for courses this month will be around 12.99. Check out the website at shor.by/GqCk And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.
