A weekly car boot sale, one of less than a handful that is still reliably taking place, has up to 200 cars/sellers. The stadium is just a few minutes walk from the Red LUAS line stop and numerous bus stops. For traders the Car Boot Sale opens at 06:30 for buyers from 08:00. The weekly Honest2goodness food market in Glasnevin has fresh meat, vegetables, fish, baked goods, and wines. It is open from 09:30-16:00. It is behind Lidl in the Industrial Estate just after the Glasnevin Cemetary coming from the City Centre.

Parkrun Ireland is organising free weekly runs in parks. It is a timed run over 5km and participation is completely free, but registration before your first parkrun is required.

The County Council Market (CoCo) in Marlay Park is taking place every Saturday and Sunday. You will find a wide range of products. There will be food to eat there and food to cook at home but also crafts and arts and books and lots more.

The Temple Bar Markets (Food Market on Meeting House Square, Book Market on Temple Bar Square and the Designer Mart near Cow’s Lane) are taking place every Saturday from 10:00-16:30.

Dublin City Hall has a museum/exhibition in the basement, called “The Story of the Capital”, it is an exhibition that you should definitely check out at some stage.

To celebrate the Easter Rising Anniversary, admission to that exhibititon was free in 2016, but lucky for us, Dublin City decided to also waive the admission charge for 2017.

The Drumcondra Village Market is now the “Art, Bites, Crafts Drumcondra Market”. And as you guessed it, it is an arts and crafts fair in the centre of Drumcondra. :-) There will also be some food and music.

The first Irish Quidditch Cup will take place on Saturday at Trinity College Dublin and admission is free for all spectators.

The event will decide who is the best Irish quidditch team and is the qualifying tournament to decide which club will go to the European Quidditch Cup 2018 in Germany.

The current exhibition in the Science Gallery is called “IN CASE OF EMERGENCY” and it will run from 12 October until 11 January. The exhibition looks at doomsday and emergency scenarios. How can we prepare for such a worst case situation? It is a very interesting exhibition that I recommend. Some exhibits need you to think/reflect a little, but that is a good thing! :-)

All Science Gallery exhibitions are suitable for ALL ages, even younger children will be able to take part/follow. For this exhibition, though, younger kids might need your help to understand some of the context.

Qigong is a traditional Chinese form of meditation coordinating slow flowing movement, deep rhythmic breathing, and a calm state of mind.

Come to this gentle Qigong practice outdoors on the Roof Top Garden of the Library (weather permitting) or indoors with a view of the roof garden. Suitable for all ages.

Based on the vast Jacob Biscuit Factory Archive that is kept at the Dublin City Library and Archive, this exhibition explores all aspects of the factory’s 20th century history and its impact on lives of Dubliners.

The exhibition tells the history of the factory, the workers, the products it produced and its role in Irish life. Find out the history of the Jacobs cream-cracker, who was the marketing genius to develop the concept of Jim Figgerty and how did major national and international events from World Wars to 1916 Rising impact the business, customers and staff.

Kaleidoscope is a motion picture workshop for kids in Filmbase. It is suitable for ages 9-13. The event is organised by the Irish Hungarian Theatre.

This “In Conversation Tour” is part of the First Fortnight Mental Arts Festival.

Shane Morrisey, art historian, and Eithne McAdam, art therapist, will explore and discuss works from the Gallery’s collection which address the subject of mental health.

The market is held every 3rd Sunday of the month.

The First Fortnight Tour “heARTS & Minds” will explore works from the Gallery’s collection which address the subject of mental health. The tour is a collaboration with the First Fortnight Mental Arts Festival.

The “Dublin Sketchers” is an informal group of (hobby) artists who go somewhere different in Dublin every Sunday (e.g. National Museum, Maritime Museum, Dublin Flea Market, Farmleigh, Botanic Gardens, Dublin Castle, Science Gallery, …), sketch for one to two hours and then meet up for coffee afterwards and discuss their sketches.

There are some hugely talented people among them and it is a great idea to meet up with others who have the same hobby. “Turner, myths, and celebrities on the River Rhine” is a talk with Adrian Le Harivel, curator of British Art in association with the annual Turner exhibition, open from 1-31 January in the Print Gallery.

The Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland was established by Government in May 2017 to develop a blueprint for policing in Ireland into the future. “Immediately following the February 1917 revolution in Russia, Irish Labour identified with the Petrograd Soviet because it opposed the world war and supported the principle of national self-determination. Contact with the Bolsheviks was established after the October revolution and the Irish Labour delegates sided with the pro-Bolsheviks at the international socialist conference at Berne in February 1919. However, the foundation of the Comintern, and the related emergence of a far-left in Ireland, led Labour to distance itself from Russia, and Irish links with the Bolsheviks became confined to communist, Larkinite, and republican groups. Moscow would shape the politics of Irish socialism and left republicanism in the 1920s and 1930s, and the history of its several, successive affiliates tells us much about centre-periphery relations within the Comintern and the character of Comintern influence on the smaller communist parties.”

“Playable City” is a global initiative that transforms a city into a place of unexpected interaction. In 2018, Dublin City Council will partner with Playable City to design and deliver a flagship project in the city that creates a new city conversation for Dublin.

A workshop on Wednesday will launch the project and you are invited. The workshop is designed to enable participants to connect, understand and explore the concept of the Playable City and discuss it’s relevance to Dublin.

You are invited to come along to an information evening on volunteering in Africa with the Vincentian Lay Missionaries (VLM).

Hosted by previous VLM volunteers, you will hear first-hand experiences of work with communities in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Burkina Faso and there will be opportunities to ask questions and learn about the placements available.

“Intelligent Machines: Who (or What) Creates a Work of Authorship?” is a talk in the Science Gallery by Prof Jane Ginsburg (Morton L. Janklow Professor of Literary and Artistic Property Law at Columbia University (School of Law)).

“In copyright law, an author is a human being who exercises subjective judgment in composing the work and who controls its execution. But challenges arise when the putative author partners with a machine or with natural forces to create a work of authorship. Do mechanical or natural interventions in the production of a work result in an insufficiently human-authored creation? The burgeoning of “computer generated works” – outputs of digital neural networks that have “taught themselves” to combine rules of literary, musical or artistic assembly after being “trained” on a database of pre-existing works – requires us to ask whether those outputs are “original works of authorship” entitled to copyright protection.”

Dublin City Hall has a museum/exhibition in the basement, called “The Story of the Capital”, it is an exhibition about Dublin’s History and you should definitely check it out at some stage.
