A weekly car boot sale, one of less than a handful that is still reliably taking place, has up to 200 cars/sellers. The stadium is just a few minutes walk from the Red LUAS line stop and numerous bus stops. For traders the Car Boot Sale opens at 06:30 for buyers from 08:00. The weekly Honest2goodness food market in Glasnevin has fresh meat, vegetables, fish, baked goods, and wines. It is open from 09:30-16:00. It is behind Lidl in the Industrial Estate just after the Glasnevin Cemetary coming from the City Centre.

Parkrun Ireland is organising free weekly runs in parks. It is a timed run over 5km and participation is completely free, but registration before your first parkrun is required.

The Bank of Secrets is open in GalleryX all day on Saturday. Come to the Gallery, write a secret on a piece of paper and deposit with “banker” and street artist Will St Leger. He will burn it and the ashes will be turned into a mural on the streets of Dublin.

“Design it” is an exhibition exploring design in a child’s world and it is part of Irish Design 2015.

The exhibition and a range of (non-free) events will introduce children to the process of design, illustrating how designers take an idea and then make it a reality.

The Ark have challenged five Irish designers to create new products for children, taking inspiration from iconic children’s toys, furniture and textiles.The Design It exhibition recreates each designer’s individual studio giving us a glimpse at their working practices, using their sketches, photographs and working prototypes, to reveal how they get from an initial idea to the final product.

How does trauma affect the brain, the body, the national psyche or all three? How do buildings, bodies, artworks and stories record the traumas of our past? How do we bounce back after a trauma?

The exhibition “Trauma – Built to Break” (20 Nov – 21 Feb) in the Science Gallery is exploring the biological, psychological and societal aspects of trauma. As a sudden, violent, stressful event, trauma can be short-lived or long-lasting with impacts that range from deeply personal to universal.

Like all Science Gallery exhibitions, TRAUMA is suitable for all ages and while younger children might need some further explanation, there are lots of exhibits that can easily explained.

The Science Gallery mediators are helpers (usually students or graduates) that know the whole exhibition inside out and are very happy to help with a lot more information than the little labels at the exhibits can provide. Use their excellent service!

“The purpose of #FEMPOWER is to inspire real, positive change for women in our communities. At the conference, guests will hear from some of Ireland’s most prominent female speakers on topics ranging from education, leadership and childcare, to body image, consent and the eighth amendment. The “Dublin Sketchers” is an informal group of (hobby) artists who go somewhere different in Dublin every Sunday (e.g. National Museum, Maritime Museum, Dublin Flea Market, Farmleigh, Botanic Gardens, Dublin Castle, Science Gallery, …), sketch for one to two hours and then meet up for coffee afterwards and discuss their sketches.

“Pull Down a Horseman” depicts a secret meeting between Pearse and Connolly, who discussed if and when to go ahead with the 1916 Rising. The dramatic conflict comes out of their expression of their differing political philosophies and perspectives.

The incident described, which is believed to have taken place in a cottage in South County Dublin in early Spring 1916, has a basis in historical research. The play was written in 1966 by playwright Eugene McCabe to commemorate the Rising’s 50th Anniversary and was first presented by the Abbey Theatre.

Candlelit Tales, a small group of storytellers, are retelling Irish myths and legends and this week the stories of Ulster’s Champion Cuchulainn will be told.

Atria Sonified is a Sonic Performance in the IAA Architecture Gallery on Wednesday. The three artists Harry Moore, Anthony Kelly, David Stalling are responding to the current exhibition “Atrium” in the Architecture Gallery of the Irish Architectural Archive.

This is a durational performance and the audience are invited to enter and leave the space as they wish.

Professor Luciano Floridi (Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, UK) will talk about “Right to be Forgotten: The Spark in the Powder Keg”. The Right to be Forgotten refers to a recent ruling of the European Court of Justice that gives individuals the right to request deletion of certain information held online about them.

The Battle of Mount Street Bridge took place on 26 Apr 1916. For several hours rebel volunteers fought off hundreds of British soldiers, inflicting heavy casualties on them.

Michael Pegum will examine in detail the dramatic sequence of events around Northumberland Road and Haddington Road which accounted for a significant proportion of the British military casualties during the Rising.

“What Are Crits For?” intends to dig deeper into the architectural crit (review or jury) which is a cornerstone of architectural education around the world. The architectural crit remains highly controversial: the defence of ideas, drawings and models in an open format before staff and peers is intended to be an occasion of healthy creative debate, but many students view it as hostile confrontation – an ego trip for staff and humiliation for them.

The panel includes John Barton, Director of the Architectural Design Program at Stanford University, Professor Lorraine Farrelly, author, architect and interior designer, Rosie Parnell, author of ‘The Crit: An Architecture Student’s Handbook’ and Jeremy Till, Head of Central Saint Martins, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Arts London and author of ‘Architecture Depends’.

Wikimedia Community Ireland is inviting to an “Open Health Data Night”.

Open Data Ireland was set up to help citizens access high value, machine readable datasets generated by the Irish Government and this community meetup is organised by Open Knowledge Ireland and WikiMedia Ireland. It will bring together people who are passionate about sharing, learning, using and progressing Open Data in Ireland.

The theme for this Meetup is TRAUMA and the event will be about how open health data can save lives and help all of us to make better-informed decisions. There will also be a panel discussion on open health data to see how we can overcome some of the challenges.

“Speaking Words” is an evening of poetry and prose with the Kingfisher Writers. Readings start at 18:30 and there will be light refreshments from 18:00.

“Pull Down a Horseman” depicts a secret meeting between Pearse and Connolly, who discussed if and when to go ahead with the 1916 Rising. The dramatic conflict comes out of their expression of their differing political philosophies and perspectives.

The incident described, which is believed to have taken place in a cottage in South County Dublin in early Spring 1916, has a basis in historical research. The play was written in 1966 by playwright Eugene McCabe to commemorate the Rising’s 50th Anniversary and was first presented by the Abbey Theatre.

An Gorta Mor was the Great Irish Famine when between 1845 and 1850, approximately 1.5 million Irish men, women and children died of starvation or related diseases.

At this event Tim Pat Coogan and Prof Liam Kennedy will debate if the Famine was a British-contrived genocide or natural famine. Both have opposite opinions on the matter. Audience participation will be encouraged.

AEMI (Artists’ & Experimental Moving Image) presents a discussion with Benjamin Cooke, Director of LUX, about film artist Anne Charlotte Robertson and her legacy.
From the early 1980s and for over thirty eight hours of Super 8 film, Anne Charlotte Robertson’s Five Year Diary stands as one of the major works of diary film-making. The films are an exhaustively narrated chronicle of her daily life in Framingham, Massachusetts and her battles with depression, paranoia, and borderline schizophrenia.

The King Kong Club is a weekly music game-show in the Mercantile. Each week 6-7 bands/solo artists play three songs each. At the end of all the performances a clap-off with the King Kong Club Clap-o-Meter takes place and the winner goes through to a semi-final and it all culminates after six months of competition with The Grand Final, held in front of a panel of celebrity judges.

Phonica is a new poetry and music venture with emphasis on multiformity and the experimental. Hosted by Christodoulos Makris and Olesya Zdorovetska, it will provide an outlet for the exploration and presentation of new ideas, a space where practitioners from different artforms can converse and an environment for collaboration and improvisation.

Dr Tony Pollard, Director of the Centre for Battlefield Archaeology at the University of Glasgow, will reflect on the highs and lows of a career in conflict archaeology that has taken him all over the world. Using examples from a variety of projects, he will demonstrate how archaeology can shed new light on conflicts from medieval warfare to the world wars of the 20th century.

“Pasolini, the poet: Friuli, Italy and beyond – A tribute to the poet, 40 years after his death” is an evnt of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura and the Italian Society – TCD.

“Giuliana Adamo, Assistant Professor at Trinity College Dublin, will introduce the evening with an overview of Pasolini’s extraordinary career and life. From poetry to film making, from literature to political activism: Pasolini stands out as one of the greatest intellectual figures of modern Italy.
Angela Felice, director of Centro Studi P.P. Pasolini of Casarsa della Delizia, will illustrate the first period of Pasolini’s poetry, characterised by the use of Friulian (minority language spoken in the north-eastern region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia), a choice determined by fascinating linguistic, sentimental and political factors.
Luciano Martinengo, translator of Pasolini’s poems in English, will cover the later poetic style of the author and
Loris Vescovo, songwriter from Friuli, will offer a musical performance with songs taken from his theatrical show on Pasolini’s life.
