A weekly car boot sale, one of less than a handful that is still reliably taking place, has up to 200 cars/sellers. The stadium is just a few minutes walk from the Red LUAS line stop and numerous bus stops. For traders the Car Boot Sale opens at 06:30 for buyers from 08:00. The weekly Honest2goodness food market in Glasnevin has fresh meat, vegetables, fish, baked goods, and wines. It is open from 09:30-16:00. It is behind Lidl in the Industrial Estate just after the Glasnevin Cemetary coming from the City Centre.

Parkrun Ireland is organising free weekly runs in parks. It is a timed run over 5km and participation is completely free, but registration before your first parkrun is required.

The SuperNatural Food Market is taking place every Saturday from 09:30-15:30 in St. Andrews Resource Centre in Pearse Street, Dublin 2.

The Green Door Market is a new indoor food/Farmer’s Market that takes place just a few doors down from the Dublin Food Co-op at Newmarket in Dublin 8. Admission is free.

Christmas Kingdom is a new Christmas event by Dublin City Council.

There is lots of entertainment for kids, but most attractions are not free (e.g. a Christmas circus, the North Pole play area, a festive train, face painters, balloons and children entertainments.

The free element of Christmas Kindom is a Live Crib and a market area consisting of 14 stalls selling food and crafts.

Initially it will open every weekend Fri 14:00-20:00 & Sat/Sun from 10:00 to 20:00. From 19-23 Dec the market will be open daily from 10:00-20:00 and will then continue until 04 Jan.

The Drumcondra Village Market is an arts and crafts market, specialising on Irish Handmade crafts. Santa will also be there every Saturday until Christmas. Admission is free.

“GIFT – A Christmas Celebration of Giving with a Difference” will be a celebration of the Christmas spirit, with a series of events and happenings around the theme of “giving”.

Inspired by the Scandinavian Christmas story of St Lucia, Monkeyshine Theatre will present an interactive promenade performance of Little Light, the tale of a little girl’s adventures as she endeavours to bring back the gift of light for her family and friends. (at 14:00)

Wikimedia Ireland invites to an editathon about Ireland and World War I.

A new market (flea/vintage/etc) with two cafés has opened in the same location in Thomas Street where the Ferocious Mingle Market was before their move to Camden Street.

The new market in 72 Thomas Street is called Stable Market and it is open from Thursday until Sunday from 10:00-18:00 every day. It seems there is neither a website nor a Facebook Page yet.

The Temple Bar Markets (Food Market on Meeting House Square, Book Market on Temple Bar Square and the Designer Mart near Cow’s Lane) are taking place every Saturday from 10:00-16:30.

Travel writer, television presenter and member of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Michael Palin will be signing copies of his latest book “Travelling To Work”.

The third volume of his diaries, “Travelling to Work” covers the years from 1988 to 1998, including film success with A Fish Called Wanda and his brilliant performance as a schoolteacher in Alan Bleasdale’s tv series, GBH.

This is the last “People’s Art 2014” exhibition of this year and it is perfectly timed for Christmas. It is an art exhibition with all types of paintings on the rails/fence of St. Stephen’s Green. There are some really really talented hobby or full time painters and usually the painter is there for you to chat with him/her about their art.

If you want to exhibit at one of the events in the future, check the website for cost and conditions. Visiting the People’s Art Exhibition is free. Specific start and end times are not defined, but exhibition space has to be occupied by 11:00, so 11:00 is the latest start time. The event runs from Friday until Sunday, but Sat+Sun are the main days.

People’s Art Dublin is a voluntary, part time, non profit making group, brought together by Dublin City Council to promote the visual arts to the public of Dublin. A huge variety of art/paintings are displayed and if the weather is nice it is a great art-filled stroll around Stephen’s Green. Definitely recommended!

The Ferocious Mingle Marcade (Market and Arcade) is back in a new location. The Marcade is now in Camden Street next to Daintree Paper and opposite the Centra and off-license there. It takes place every Thurs-Sun and is a flea-market-type permanent market with stalls and “chalets” for traders.

The National Gallery has an extensive programme of free talks, public tours and Art Documentary screenings focusing on highlights of the European and Irish Collection every day of the week. Check their website for details.

If you need some ideas for Christmas presents with a French influence, come to the Alliance Française French Christmas Market.

Stalls offer Chocolate, Cheese, Delicatessen, Bread, Jewellery, Books, Bûche de Noel, Wine, Hats, Christmas Decoration, and Alliance Française gift vouchers for courses or memberships.

BLOOD is the title of the new Science Gallery exhibition that will run from 24 Oct – 25 Jan.

25 exhibits explore the symbolic, scientific and strange nature of blood and there are certainly some “out there” contributions. For example the video and relics from a bio-art performance where an artist had a blood transfusion form a horse. Or a spoof brand that uses bloodstain-formed fashion accessories addressing the stigma about men strual blood.

But there are quirky things as well, like the Jukebox that will guess your age by taking your pulse rate and playing a song from your teenage years. And there are some practical aspects: You can take a test that will determine your blood type and you can find out what happens to to donated blood in Ireland.

An interesting exhibition, but different than what you have seen before in the Science Gallery and that is reflected by the recommendation that the exhibition is only suitable for over 15 year olds.

If you are ok with the focus on this red substance that makes some of us a bit queasy when we think about it, you should definitely go to the exhibition (and bring an open mind ;-) ). But if blood makes your knees wobbly, then it might not be for you.

Every day until 22 December a Festive Family Fun Fair will take place on Wolfe Tone Square.

There will be vintage amusement rides like a vintage style chairoplane, a mini carousel, a helter skelter slide and game stalls. Food stalls with crepes, grilled food, a chocolate fountain, hot drinks, sweets and steak sandwiches will keep the parents happy.

The Fidelio Trio Winter Chamber Music Festival that started on Friday is continuing with a performance on Saturday at 13:15 (Theme: Schumann) and 18:30 (Theme: Eastern Promise) and all will conclude with a concert on Sunday at 15:15 that is themed “Folk Inspirations”.

But back to events!! On Saturday, Santa abseils from the roof of the Great Outdoors Shop in Chatham Street, near Grafton Street. Bring your kids to educate them about the method of entry for Santa. He will, after that, be in the shop until 15:00.

Before their performance in Smock Alley Theatre on Sun 07 Dec, Camerata Flamenco Project will offer a free workshop at Walton’s.

They will play a few short pieces and then open the workshop to questions and answers about flamenco and their unique approach to it. They will also discuss and demonstrate some elements of that approach, including rhythm, ‘compa?s’, flamenco harmony and improvisation.

The workshop welcomes performers and non?performing observers, and musicians and music students are encouraged to bring their own instruments and participate.

Admission is free and the event is part of the Dublin Flamenco Festival 2014.

The next Pure Vintage Fair will take place this week and it is what it says on the tin. A market/flea market for vintage items, which will take place on the first Sunday of every month. There will be vintage clothes, furniture, collectibles, jewellery and many more vintage items. Sounds interesting and with 30 stalls, it is well worth a visit. There will also be food, hot drinks and a DJ.

The Terenure Village Market will take place again on Sunday. This time it will be on the Main Terenure Car Park and will coincide with the Terenure Christmas Tree Lighting Event.

There will be live music, irish dancing, and kids entertainment (e.g. face painters, balloon makers or magician) and a total of 40 food and craft stalls.This time there will also be Santa Claus arriving at 16:00 with free goodie bags for children and free mulled wine for adults.

The market takes place every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. Admission is free.

BLOOD is the title of the new Science Gallery exhibition that will run from 24 Oct – 25 Jan.

25 exhibits explore the symbolic, scientific and strange nature of blood and there are certainly some “out there” contributions. For example the video and relics from a bio-art performance where an artist had a blood transfusion form a horse. Or a spoof brand that uses bloodstain-formed fashion accessories addressing the stigma about men strual blood.

But there are quirky things as well, like the Jukebox that will guess your age by taking your pulse rate and playing a song from your teenage years. And there are some practical aspects: You can take a test that will determine your blood type and you can find out what happens to to donated blood in Ireland.

An interesting exhibition, but different than what you have seen before in the Science Gallery and that is reflected by the recommendation that the exhibition is only suitable for over 15 year olds.

If you are ok with the focus on this red substance that makes some of us a bit queasy when we think about it, you should definitely go to the exhibition (and bring an open mind ;-) ). But if blood makes your knees wobbly, then it might not be for you.

The monthly D-Light Market is all Christmassy this Sunday. There will be art & craft stalls, Live DJ, D-Light Café & Gourmet Food, Kids Corner (with baby sitter) & Kids Cinema. Every day until 22 December a Festive Family Fun Fair will take place on Wolfe Tone Square.

There will be vintage amusement rides like a vintage style chairoplane, a mini carousel, a helter skelter slide and game stalls. Food stalls with crepes, grilled food, a chocolate fountain, hot drinks, sweets and steak sandwiches will keep the parents happy.

The “Dublin Sketchers” is an informal group of (hobby) artists who go somewhere different in Dublin every Sunday (e.g. National Museum, Maritime Museum, Dublin Flea Market, Farmleigh, Botanic Gardens, Dublin Castle, Science Gallery, …), sketch for one to two hours and then meet up for coffee afterwards and discuss their sketches.

Patricio Hidalgo is a painter with a deep love for flamenco.

Every year there is a crib with live animals outside Mansion House and this institution supported by the Irish Farmers Association is returning to Dawson Street again. It will run from 09-23 Dec.

Dawson Street doesn’t look very pretty this year due to the LUAS works there, but if you focus on the crib and ignore the street behind you you can nearly get into a Christmassy mood. ;-)

The animals don’t stay there for the whole time, but they will be brought back to the farm every evening and then back to the City Centre in the morning.

“The Impact of Exotic New Arrivals on the Irish flora” by Noeleen Smyth is a talk about why exotic garden species such as Rhododendron ponticum, Gunnera tinctoria, Carpobrotus edulis, and Cortaderia sellowiana have and are becoming such a problem in the wild, while other showy exotics such as Fuchsia and Montbretia are enjoyed as ‘Irish’ wildflowers in the hedgerows.

“Why they suck: A Brief Cultural History of Vampires” is a talk by Clemens Ruthner, one of the leading Central European experts on Vampires.

He will sketch the path of the vampire through history, from the first well known cases in Serbia (1724-32) up to Edward the Unspeakable. He will present a few examples from folklore, literature, film and fandom, debugging some of the myths you had in your mind when it comes to our favorite undead bloodsuckers. Did you know that they don’t come from Transylvania and that they haven’t existed forever.

“The magnetic attraction of the Goldilocks planet” is a public lecture by Annie Powell (Professor of Supramolecular Chemistry at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany). Organised by UCD’s Science in Society.

” What makes our home planet Earth so special? When we look at our two neighbours, Venus and Mars, we recognise that one is far too hot for us to survive whilst the other is far too cold. So what makes our planet “Just right”, as Goldilocks said when tasting the Little Bear’s porridge? In this public lecture the chemical and physical factors which make our home so comfortable will be discussed. Amongst these are the abundance of water in a liquid form, the composition of the atmosphere, the presence of the element phosphorus, the magnetic core of the Earth and the White Cliffs of Dover.”

Based on the concept of TedTalks, VitalTalks is a platform for young people to have their voices heard and listened to.

There will be 4 talks in the series On 26 Nov the first VitalTalks will be about the Social Situation (Homelessness, Community & Poverty) and subsequent talks are about Living (03 Dec), Identity (10 Dec), Employment/Education/Finance (11 Dec). There will be 4 speakers per talk and a panel of 4 experts.

Each VitalTalks will finish up with a ‘proactive change workshop’ that will challenge perceptions and start the conversation for change.

VitalTalks as part of VitalSigns (www.irelandsvitalsigns.ie) aims to empower young people by sharing experiences, challenges and achievements. Creating an environment for proactive change.

Following from the 2013 research and performance project based on the Child Ballad Collection at the NLI – a collection of traditional songs collected by the American collector Francis J Child in England and Scotland between 1882 and 1898 – another series of concerts will take place between 26 Nov and 17 Dec. This year’s performances will feature traditional singers and the performance om 10 Dec will be by Fergus Russell and Roisin Gaffney.

On each evening a male and female will introduce and perform a selection of the Child ballads, hence the project title: Man, Woman and Child.

The King Kong Club is a weekly music game-show in the Mercantile. Each week 6-7 bands/solo artists play three songs each. At the end of all the performances a clap-off with the King Kong Club Clap-o-Meter takes place and the winner goes through to a semi-final and it all culminates after six months of competition with The Grand Final, held in front of a panel of celebrity judges.

“HRB Red Alert: Ebola” is a public conversation about Ebola presented by the Health Research Board.

Ebola is one of the most important global health emergencies in 2014. It has been dominating headlines worldwide and the latest outbreak, first reported in West Africa back in March, is the deadliest occurrence of the disease since Ebola was first discovered in 1976. In August, the United Nations health agency declared an “international public health emergency”, and Ebola continues to spread.

TCD immunologist Luke O’Neill will lead a discussion on Ebola – the science of transmission and infection, and the spectrum of media coverage that has accompanied the outbreak.

Based on the concept of TedTalks, VitalTalks is a platform for young people to have their voices heard and listened to.

There will be 4 speakers per talk and a panel of 4 experts.

Each VitalTalks will finish up with a ‘proactive change workshop’ that will challenge perceptions and start the conversation for change.

Every year there is a crib with live animals outside Mansion House and this institution supported by the Irish Farmers Association is returning to Dawson Street again. It will run from 09-23 Dec.

Dawson Street doesn’t look very pretty this year due to the LUAS works there, but if you focus on the crib and ignore the street behind you you can nearly get into a Christmassy mood. ;-)

The animals don’t stay there for the whole time, but they will be brought back to the farm every evening and then back to the City Centre in the morning.

The Ferocious Mingle Marcade (Market and Arcade) is back in a new location. The Marcade is now in Camden Street next to Daintree Paper and opposite the Centra and off-license there. It takes place every Thurs-Sun and is a flea-market-type permanent market with stalls and “chalets” for traders.

The National Gallery has an extensive programme of free talks, public tours and Art Documentary screenings focusing on highlights of the European and Irish Collection every day of the week. Check their website for details.

Every day until 22 December a Festive Family Fun Fair will take place on Wolfe Tone Square.

There will be vintage amusement rides like a vintage style chairoplane, a mini carousel, a helter skelter slide and game stalls. Food stalls with crepes, grilled food, a chocolate fountain, hot drinks, sweets and steak sandwiches will keep the parents happy.

From 13 November until 23 December Dublin’s first ever City Centre Christmas Market takes place on one side of St. Stephen’s Green in the form of a long row of wooden huts. Christmas Kingdom is a new Christmas event by Dublin City Council.

There is lots of entertainment for kids, but most attractions are not free (e.g. a Christmas circus, the North Pole play area, a festive train, face painters, balloons and children entertainments.

The free element of Christmas Kindom is a Live Crib and a market area consisting of 14 stalls selling food and crafts.

Initially it will open every weekend Fri 14:00-20:00 & Sat/Sun from 10:00 to 20:00. From 19-23 Dec the market will be open daily from 10:00-20:00 and will then continue until 04 Jan.

A free class teaching you the Brazilian Dance “Forró” (Beginners at 15:00, Intermediate and Advanced at 16:30) takes place every Friday in the Boteco Brazil Pub. Igor Fernandes will teach the class.
