Hi all!
St. Patrick’s Day is over and the 21 March, the start of Spring based on the astronomical calender is behind us too, but the weather gods have not realised yet that they are meant to migrate to SPRING finally. Maybe go to museums, galleries and the Science Gallery this weekend to stay out of the rain. Just don’t stay at home BECAUSE of the weather! ;-) There is no reason for that.
[ad]
IN the Dublin News Section I included a brief update about No 29 The Georgian House Museum that the ESB wants to “castr ate” completely. I need some helpers and will possibly send a separate mail to you during the week. This is a rare occurrence, but I think the situation justifies it. So keep an eye open for it!
For now I hand you over to the main purpose of this e-zine and introduce more than 145 events to you.
If you like learning about all these events every week, please tell others about it! There is no better confirmation that you like, endorse and support what I am doing than you telling loads of people. If you work in a company, are part of a club/organisation/association or have any other suggestion how we could reach lots more people, please contact me.
Tell everyone about the Dublin Event Guide and that they all should subscribe at www.dublineventguide.com and if you are on Facebook, also click on LIKE at www.facebook.com/DublinEventGuide and click on SHARE to let others kno about the Facebook PAge as well.
Please also consider a donation. I need and much appreciate donations from you, the readers: You can help with your donation of the tiny sum of EUR 1 per month. And that EUR 1 per month (or EUR 12 per year) will ensure that I can pay the bills for the Dublin Event Guide week after week. I need EUR 170 per month. Go to www.perfectresults.info/donate.htm to help. Thanks!
And continue also to help by ALWAYS using the ad links in the Dublin News Section and the ads in the Dublin Event Guides when you order goods. If you buy goods immediately after clicking on a link/ad that you find in this e-zine/newsletter (Groupon, LivingSocial, Amazon, Book Depository, LastMinute etc), you help the Dublin Event Guide because the company you buy from gives a small commission to the Dublin Event Guide. Use these links as often as possible it doesn’t cost you a cent and you help big time!
Have an event-full week,

The “Feel Good Slot” at this place in the Dublin Event Guide is to share some inspirational, motivational or thought provoking quotes, stories or video clips. You wonder why I added this section to this e-zine? If your week was great, you might not need it, but most of us had some challenging moments in the last week and this section is for the people that want to remind that despite all, life is great and it is important to be alive.
For today’s Feel Good Slot, I have a challenge for you. The current weather doesn’t make help, but you can do it!
The challenge is based on the following concept:
We do not smile because something good has happened, rather something good happens because we smile.
Hey, if that concept works that would give you the power back that you might have handed over to others. You are not reacting, but you are in the driving seat. So, what if you just smiled for the next 5 days and see what magic will happen. ;-) And if something nice happens to you, just send me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the subject SMILE that way you even send your smile onwards!

This part is important to “keep the show on the road”:
Last week Stephen S, Mary Ph, Rory McG and Deirdre M were the wonderful people that helped with a donation. All the support is much appreciated!
Have you helped? Your help is absolutely needed too to ensure that everyone will continue to get the Dublin Event Guide every week. The cost for sending the weekly newsletter is approx. EUR 170 per month and I need your help!
Has the Dublin Event Guide helped you to find events that you otherwise wouldn’t have known about, or have you saved money by finding great free events? Then go to www.perfectresults.info/donate.htm and give something back!
I appreciate ANY help: EUR 12 would be great (that’s only 25 cent per week!), but even if it is just the price of 2 pints it will help.
You can donate online by following this link to the PayPal&CreditCard donation page www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm If you want to transfer your donation directly to my account, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will/might or would do. This is not a “best of…” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down
After all the St. Patrick’s Day Festival events last week and with Easter justa round the corner, it is not surprising that this week is not the week for big events. Luckily for the organisers because who would want to go out in horrible weather like the one we are having!?
Nevertheless there are is a good number of smaller amd mid-size events. 145 events this week is 30 less than last week, but that is not bad for a “slow” weekend! And keep also in mind that events like the interesting Science Gallery exhibition and all the other free exhibitions in museums and galleries are always there as well on rainy days.
An Art & Craft Market in the Exchange and free Circus workshops at the Filmbase are events to go to on Saturday. On Sunday the Brocante Vintage Market and definitely the Vintage, Veteran and Classic Car Festivals at Smithfield have to be on your list. If you are interested in choirs, check out the workshops at 12:00 and if you are into dancing 15:30 in Dun Laoghaire is for you!
A few very interesting talks take place during the week. On Tuesday evening in the Science Gallery with Constantin Gurdgiev and in the Grand Sociel for musicians. On Wed a talk about the Vietnam war in the Long Room and on Thursday the Sound Dvices performance are on my list of recommendations!

The Loved Ones (2009) – Film Screening
The Blood Donors Film Club, is hosting a horror film screening in aid of Focus Ireland in the Sugar Club on 10 April. Because the event is a charity event for Focus Ireland there is an admission charge of EUR 10/8 and tickets are available via the website below or on the door.
For one lucky Dublin Event Guide Reader, however, there is a pair of free tickets and you can win if you enter the competition. If you would like to go to the first Blood Donors Film Club Screening for free, send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the subject LOVED ONES and with your name and mobile phone number in the body of the mail. No 29 – Georgian House Museum – Update
I am quite passionate about this beautiful little museum and its closure on 04 April! All tour guides have been let go and the museum will (probably) re-open in May as an unguided museum. But there is a lot more to it and I wouldn’t be surprised if with the currend development this museum will be closed for good by the end of the year.
If y ou have never been in it, make sure that you will go before 04 April. There is an admission chrge of EUR 6, but it is worth it and keep in mind that it is your last chance to learn the rich and intersting story the tour guides have in store for you.
On addition I need help! There is a small chance to save the museum in its current form instead of lettingt he ESB to destroy it, but I need help! IF you are interested, send me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with No29 in the subject!
And have a look here as well: www.esb.ie/no29

Based on your feedback, I have decided to do the following with the Exhibition section in this newsletter from now on: I will provide you with a link to a near-comprehensive listing of exhibitions provided by www.visualartists.ie . For me to list all exhibitions would only be doubling their good work and would be an inefficient use of my resources. The link is visualartists.ie/category/listings/dublin/
On top of that I will every now and then include here a small selection of exhibitions that either are not mentioned in the Visual Artist listing or are note-worthy to be mentioned separately.

So I am not absolutely sure if it will take place this weekend or not. You might want to check with newartmarket@gmail.com The same address is also for everyone who wants to book a stall.

Dublin Sketchers – Sunday Meet-up
14:00, Sun 24 Mar
Dublin (various locations)
The “Dublin Sketchers” is an informal group of typically hobby artists who go somewhere different in Dublin every Sunday (e.g. National Museum, Maritime Museum, Dublin Flea Market, Farmleigh, Botanic Gardens, Dublin Castle), sketch for one to two hours and then meet up for coffee afterwards and discuss their sketches. There are some hugely talented people among them and it is a great idea to meet up with others who have the same hobby. Find out on their website where they will meet and join them if you do some sketching/drawing yourself. I know that the Dublin Sketchers often use the Dublin Event Guide to find interesting free events and I am delighted to be able to help!

Good Friday
09:00, Fri 29 Mar
Dublin (various locations)
There is nothing particularly good about this Friday in comparison to other Fridays, unless you are of Christian faith. But considering that (officially) around 93% of Irish people are meant to be catholic and because it is the case in less catholic countries, many are under the impression that Good Friday is a public holiday in Ireland. This is NOT the case. Many schools are closed on that day and some employers give their employees the day off too. However it is not a public holiday and therefore you do not have entitlement to get either the day off or to get higher pay. For most people it is just a normal Friday before a long weekend – and that is not the worst thing! :-)
Due to a distinct lack of separation between church and state (that is my opinion and you don’t have to agree!) in Ireland, pubs are not allowed to open on Good Friday and selling alcohol is forbidden. Different to the people that form the queues outside off-licenses on Thursday evening, many don’t think it is a disaster if there is no alcohol and no pub for a whole day, nevertheless many still think that the laws around Good Friday are out of sync with a multicultural and pluralistic society.

We are ready for you! Oh no! Not yet!! – The Gathering Insanity
I was a bit cynical about the Gathering before it started, then I thought: Well if there will be more events because someone gave the year a particular title then it should be something good. But now reality is creeping in again:
Ireland is anything but ready for the Gathering, there are so many things not sorted and someone should have thought of that:
– Dublin Castle is closed until 01 July
– Garda Museum at Dublin Castle is closed for renovation.
– Farmleigh House is closed until 01 July
– Our Lady’s Chapel in St. Patrick’s Cathedral is closed for renovation
– Grafton Street will soon be dug up to replace over 12 months (!!) the current red bricks with granite
– Georgian House Museum No 29 will be close after Easter for 4 weeks and will be downgraded unless you all help (see Dublin News)
– Special Gathering Hotel prices over St- Patrick’s weekend: 174% higher than at other times.
www.thejournal.ie/hotel-prices-dublin-st-patricks-day-822651-Mar2013/
– National Gallery renovations are ongoing and will be extended over the coming months
– Exhibition Gallery in the Botanic Gardens is unavailable until 01 July
– The best they could find as a “Grand Marshall” for the St Patrick’s Day parade was a has-been boy-band member
So, you best tell you relatives and friends to come when Ireland is ready for the visitors. Shocking state!

You are receiving this newsletter because you have subscribed to it!!
If you don’t want to receive this mail anymore, just click on the link at the bottom of this mail. It would help me if you told me in an e-mail why you decided to unsubscribe, but that is not a “Must”. If you only want to stop receiving the newsletter temporarily, you can – if you wish – discuss this with me by e-mail so that we find a solution that makes sense to you. If you unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of the mail and there is a chance that you – at some stage – want to re-subscribe, please make sure that you keep a mail with the “unsubscribe link” because I will not be able to add you anymore to the list once you have unsubscribed using this link. The only way you can re-subscribe is to follow that specific link and change the settings yourself.
This Event Guide (the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”) is an Event Guide with a difference. It covers mostly free events based on the thinking that free events deserve additional support and that non-free events have the money to pay for advertisement. The Guide is a _Guide_ and not just a listing and is therefore at times quite extensive. It is sent for free to anybody who is interested and if you want to be added to the mailing list or know somebody who would like to receive this guide, just send them to www.dublineventguide.com, where they can subscribe. If you have feedback – good or bad – PLEASE tell me via dublineventguide@gmail.com.
BTW: I am not paid or otherwise rewarded for compiling and distributing this Event Guide it is purely a hobby so your donations are needed: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm . Advertisement in or sponsorship of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) is possible and very welcome, please contact me for more information.
Please note: The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Event) is not related or connected to the long gone fortnightly printed publication “the event guide” that you found until December 2008 in pubs and other venues.
