Hi all!
The Soul Festival is over for another year and it was a great success. On Friday evening, Mirenda Rosenberg was brilliant at her gig in the Workman’s Club. What a performer and singer! She is not very often in Dublin, so when you get a chance to see her and her band, go for it! At the Gospel Brunch in the Church Café Bar on Sunday, the Gardiner Street Gospel Choir left a very positive and lasting impression and we might be back for more gigs in the Church Café Bar, which would be great. And then the main event, the Soul Picnic, was good fun with lovely weather and great music. I MIGHT ;-) have mentioned that I like the Dublin City Soul Festival and if you had a look at the list of Soul Festival supporters you will have seen that the new Dublin Event Guide logo was prominently displayed here www.dublincitysoulfestival.ie/partners and in the printed Soul Festival brochure.

When you read this, I am in the UK at a training course from Thursday (yesterday) until next Wednesday. I took the ship & train from Dublin and was working on this Dublin Event Guide edition throughout the trip to make sure that you won’t miss out this week. :-) It was my first trip on the train from Dublin to London and I have to say, it was a pleasant experience. Try it out. Return to London is EUR 80 with virtually unlimited luggage and while it takes a little longer than flying, the time can be used in a very productive way. A lot detail about this way to get to the UK is explained on seat61.com/Ireland.htm
Because I did my search for free events a slight bit earlier this week, it is possible that I missed the odd event. But I am quite certain that I have more than 95% percent covered, so you will have plenty of options to spend your weekend or week with.
The Dublin Event Guide is continually growing and with the new website www.dublineventguide.com it is now even easier to tell your friends about this weekly newsletter/e-zine. We have exceeded the 8600 mark now and are 1400 away from the goal for the end of the year. Since we are in week 22 now, there are 30 weeks left until the end of the year. So to reach 10,000 readers by the end of this year, we need 47 new readers every week. This can’t be done without your help!!!!!
So, please tell your friends and colleagues about the Dublin Event Guide: They can subscribe on www.facebook.com/DublinEventGuide by clicking on “Join Email List” in the menu on the left or they can subscribe on the new website www.dublineventguide.com. A mail to me at dublineventguide@gmail.com with subject SUBSCRIBE DEG works as well, so there is no escape. ;-)
This might help you to get the word out: www.perfectresults.info/event_guide_mini_flyers.pdf

We now are more than 4800 people on the Dublin Event Guide – Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/DublinEventGuide as well. Come over and click LIKE too. Be part of this growing online facebook community and tell your friends. You will get last minute updates and event reminders through the Facebook Page! And I know (and you know it too!) that you don’t want to miss out! :-)

This week’s Feel Good Slot video clip is kind of unexpected. A young boy was able to cycle his bike for the first time and prompted by his dad starts a little motivational speech. Hey, if a young kid like that manages to motivate himself like this, then I am sure you can do that too! www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaIvk1cSyG8

This week Camelia P, Nicola B and Ciaran H were able to help and their support is hugely appreciated. To cover the cost for this Event Guide, I need about 4 donations every week and to improve the Event Guide I need another bit more. My part is to give 25 hours per week for no pay to make sure that YOU get the Dublin Event Guide every week. Could you help with just 25 cent per week or EUR 12 per year? That’s a bargain! It is to cover the cost, but even if it was pay for me, imagine it would be 1 cent per hour. Maybe I should ask for a LOT more??? ;-)
BTW: If you think that I make money from advertisement because you see a few ads, then please note that only if you click on the link in this e-zine when you order books from bookdepository a (very) small amount (EUR 0.30 on average!) will be paid to me. If you don’t BUY, I get nothing. And it is similar for most of the other ads.
This newsletter is a spare-time activity of mine for which I am not paid. It is not a commercial project and if you like it, you are invited to help with a donation. You can give as much as you want or can, but if you need some guidance, maybe consider just ONE Euro per month or – to make it more practical – a donation of 12 Euro per year (that is just EUR 0.25 per newsletter, you definitely have that much!). Where else can you get such a vast amount of useful information for just 25 cent? www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm
You can donate online by following this link to the PayPal&CreditCard donation page www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm If you want to transfer your donation directly to my account, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

______Joerg’s Picks______________
This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will/might or would do. This is not a “best of…” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down.

Please phone 01-6776253 or 0868783086 or email mkeating@iol.ie for enquiries or to make an appointment. This weekend and nearly the full next week I am away from Dublin and when I am writing this it is quite late 04:00 and in just a couple of hours I need to be at a training seminar again fully alert and ready to learn, so forgive me for taking a short cut this week and not giving much of a recommendation.
Only a couple of thinks: Check out the Shakespeare Festival, it really sounds good. It is free, so try it even if you are not the biggest Shakespeare fan. On Sunday the Movie in the Park in Dun Laoghaire is a bit of fun, especially if the weather is good. On Monday, cheer on the women at the Mini-Marathon. And on Thursday, I would love to go to the Clown’s Coop in the Exchange.

______Dublin News______________
EU AMBASSADORS ARE WARNED ABOUT IRISH TAP WATER
Leading Dutch paediatrician, Dr Gavin ten Tusscher and others associated with Amsterdam University and the NGO Ecobaby have alerted EU diplomacies in Dublin to the risks from tap water in Ireland which contains untrialled, falsified medicinal products (fluorosilicates) that are unsafe for bottle-fed babies.
Many campaigners have tried for years to stop the government to unnecessarily fluoridate the drinking water in Ireland, a practice that is illegal in nearly all other European countries, but the Irish government still insists on mixing a waste product from the fertiliser into the drinking water to fluoridate it. Now the EU Ambassadors have been warned and hopefully the new Irish government will finally take the right steps! www.eutimes.net/2011/06/eu-ambassadors-in-ireland-warned-that-tap-water-is-not-safe-for-baby-bottles/

In order to beat an economic downturn not governments can help, but individuals are needed that take the initiative and create new markets and new opportunities for themselves and for their customers and hopefully employees. The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) will help you if you have recently started a company and if you could do with spreading the word. Being mentioned here and being seen by the 8000+ readers of the Dublin Event Guide should help to kick start something big for you. In return I expect you to tell your clients and friends about the Event Guide and once you have made a nice bit of money, a donation would be very much appreciated. ;-) (This offer is for start-ups in relatively early stages only. Established companies can contact me regarding very affordable advertisement options in the Dublin Event Guide.) ______Exhibitions_______________
Based on your feedback, I have decided to do the following with the Exhibition section in this newsletter from now on: I will provide you with a link to a near-comprehensive listing of exhibitions provided by www.visualartists.ie. For me to list all exhibitions would only be doubling their good work and would be an inefficient use of my resources. The link is visualartists.ie/category/listings/exhib-lein/
On top of that I will every now and then include here a small selection of exhibitions that either are not mentioned in the Visual Artist listing or are note-worthy to be mentioned separately.
DIT BA PHOTOGRAPHY GRADUATE EXHIBITION

RACKET CLUB – EVENT LAUNCH – THE MERCANTILE
Fri 03 June: 23:00-03:00 – The Mercantile Basement Club, Dame Lane, Dublin 2.
This is a brand new event that has its background/origin in Japan. To give you a full and comprehensive explanation, I just quote the organisers here: “The Racket Club combines micro-clubbing & micro-Blogging in a new free pop-up event for Dublin. Creating a uniquely personal and totally customisable experience.
“micro-clubs” evolved in Tokyo around 2008 often specialising in niche dance music genres and only entertaining up to 50 clubbers at a time. They were a creative response to the reality of many large night clubs closing down. Recent times have seen a similar trend here with several Irish clubs and venues closing their doors. It seems many Dublin clubbers have become tired of generic unfriendly warehouse like venues that aim to satisfy only the lowest common denominator.
This is the inspiration behind The Racket Club. Even though its capacity is larger than its Japanese counterparts,(estimated at approx 100 people), the spirit is still the same. This creative pop-up event adds a twist to its predecessor’s winning formula by incorporating a free open WiFi network into the mix. Encouraging party goers to participate through the innovative use of social networks.
The Racket Club aims to turn bystanders into active participants and virtual curators of their own event. Clued in clubbers packing smartphones are invited to #tweetrequest songs directly to the DJs via their twitter account. The interaction doesn’t stop there attendees weary of invasive “club photographers” now choose to tag their own individual snaps and share them on the clubs facebook page. The possibilities are endless and the refreshing two-way communication creates a personal feel blurring the lines between social networks & social lives!
Another strange by-product of all this connectivity is that the event is not confined within the 4 walls of its boutique surroundings.
This collection of veteran and fresh faced DJs stream a live video feed on Ustream leaking their party vibes to practically anyone who wants to take part anywhere in the world. The other major difference is the “music policy” although mainly based on a healthy mix of indie, rock, grunge and Britpop artists. The DJ’s seamlessly weave the #tweetrequest driven musical desires of the collective into an endless playlist of possibilities.
This weekly event (until 30 Sept) will take place in the basement of the Mercantile Pub in Dame Street and access is from the rear entrance on Dame Lane. Admission is free. twitter.com/RacketClub and www.facebook.com/theracketclubdublin

DAVID NORRIS FOR PRESIDENT? NO THANKS!
Senator David Norris is an Irish idiosyncrasy. Well educated, very entertaining, very british sounding, loves James Joyce, loud, gay, often an effective senator and with the ambition to become President of Ireland.
Last week the media aimed for David Norris and criticised him heavily for something he said an interview. (jrnl.ie/146335). I had to read the sentence three times before I realised what the media was implying and I have to say that I do think he is unfairly attacked. The statement that he made was not very smart, but how some newspapers interpreted things into the statement that definitely didn’t seem to be implied is quite disturbing. I agree with David Norris when he speculates that the overexaggeration is meant to damage his chances as a presidential candidate.
So, do I think he should be become the next president? No, absolutely not!
I don’t care about this recent statement, but what I do care about is his track record with regard to social and community spirit. And on that aspect there are some very black marks. It has been a good few years ago, but back then David Norris was the chairman of some residents organisation in North Great George’s Street, where he lives. The street is a well kept street of impressive houses and the people living there wanted to get special treatment. Shockingly the street was used by other people! There were buses going up and down and sometimes police cars with sirens drove through to chase stolen cars etc. And even worse, people that did not live in the street parked there. What impertinence! The residents association had enough of this and decided that they are better than the rest and deserve special treatment. The street must have gates installed so that the low-lifes like you and me can’t park there anymore or drive through. David Norris was using all his influence to push this through and when he (luckily) failed to achieve ALL their demands, then he stepped down as a chairman. Streets belong to ALL taxpayers and I would prefer a president that has the interest of ALL people at his heart, not just the interests of some small upper-class interest group. When Norris thought that he should be treated better than the rest, he disqualified himself as a future president of all the people. www.archeire.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=280
