———————————————————————
Hi all!
I am back again!!! My mini-holidays + seminar in Portugal are over and I had a brilliant time. I have to admit that I left Vilamoura, where the seminar took place, with some reluctance. But apart from my day job, I knew that many of you would expect me back for the next edition of the Event Guide, so extending my trip by a tempting three more days was not really an option.
Over the coming weeks I will tell you more about my course because it was an amazing experience and a hugely mind-expanding training. The reason why I won’t tell you today is because I have done no work for this Event Guide over the last few days and still have a lot of writing to do today to get the newsletter to you, so I better get started with the essential bits, the events, and leave my own stories for another time. (If you wish, I might even teach you some of the things I learned at this and some other courses at a 1-day course in Dublin in September or October but you will hear more about that idea when the details are sorted out.)
So, I won’t go into any details today, and rather get the Event Guide done soon, but there is one thing I want you to think about: When you came into this world, you were born with no limitations to what you can achieve. All limitations were created for you by other people and were taught to you. You might have kept some, made worse some others and might have improved on a few more. But all the limitations were based on beliefs that your parents, friends, teachers or society had and which you adopted. – This means that if we want to change something in our lives, we can do that by changing our beliefs and values, our mindset. Does that make sense to you? – If you want to know more about it, send me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the Subject CHANGE. …and have a look at the video clip in today’s Feel Good Slot. It picks exactly that theme up!

This newsletter is a spare-time activity of mine for which I am not paid. It is not a commercial project and if you like it, you are invited to help with a donation. You can donate as much as you want or can, but if you need some guidance, maybe consider just ONE Euro per month or – to make it more practical – a donation of 12 Euro per year (that is just 25 cent per newsletter). Where else can you get such a vast amount of useful information for just 25 cent. ;-)
You can donate using PayPal or your credit card by following this link to the PayPal donation page www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm If you want to transfer money to my bank, just drop me a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

______Joerg’s Picks______________
This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will/might or would do. This is not a “best of…” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down.

BOTHERED AND BEWILDERED WITH LIFE?
Are you bothered, bewildered… or just bogged down with life at the moment?
Mary Keating, MA, trained psychoanalytic psychotherapist, is available for appointments in Custom House Medical Centre, IFSC or at 20 Lower Baggot Street. Please phone 01-6776253 or 0868783086, or email mkeating@iol.ie for enquiries or to make an appointment. Her fees are appropriate to circumstances, so talk to her if you could do with some help and support. www.agalma.ie/therapists/mary-keating
——————————————————–
I just came from a week long seminar and will be at another one this weekend. But this weekend is me more being involved with the organisation than just being a participant. Nevertheless, it means that I won’t have much time for events again. I should try to clone myself! :-)
If I had time, I would go to the Summer Fest in Bray and to the French Market in the Docklands and the Rose Festival in Raheny. I have been to the Rose Festival and the Bray Summerfest in previous years and they both are good but completely different. The French Market is a French food market, I expect but again, it is something different and therefore worth a visit (even if it is not a super long visit) :-)
On Sunday the Street Feast is interesting, but it is not a Festival where you can easily just join in. It is more a localised event.
Whatever you do, make sure that you have time for the Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Culture next week!!

______Competition______________
FAILTE IRELAND DUBLIN HORSE SHOW
The Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show 2010 is taking place from 04-08 August in the RDS in Ballsbridge. This year is the 137th year of Ireland’s top equestrian event, which is an event not only suitable for horse enthusiasts but as well for families and everybody else. Over 100 showing and show jumping events will take place on these 5 days and highlights are the drama of the Land Rover Puissance featuring the famous ‘Wall’, the Longines International Grand Prix, the Aga Khan Challenge Trophy and the Longines Press Award for Elegance. But there will be live music as well and ultimate kids’ and nature zones, on Blossom Hill Ladies’ Day you can admire the fashion or you can wander through the art and crafts exhibition and shop at over 300 trade stands. You can see, there is something for everyone.
Tickets are on sale now and are available from www.dublinhorseshow.com or via 0818 719 300
The Horse Show is not a free event, but the organisers still want to give something to some of you, so they made one pair of adult tickets (value: 2x EUR 21) and one Family Pass (2 adults+4 children under 16) (value: EUR 52) available for a competition here. To win either the pair of adult tickets or the family pass you have to send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with HORSE SHOW in the subject line and your name, your phone number and either the word PAIR or FAMILY in the body of the mail. I am sure you can guess that PAIR means that you are interested in the pair of adult tickets and FAMILY means that you would like to win the Family Pass. Your mail has to be with me by Mon 26 July at 12:00. The tickets will be sent by post to the two winners. www.dublinhorseshow.com
All events in this Competition Section are non-free events, but the organisers are making free tickets available for you to win. I usually get lots of competition entries and unfortunately not everybody can win, so even if you are not the winner, please consider going to an event to support the organisers. :-) If you don’t win, and will go to the event, please help showing the organisers that promoting their event in the Dublin Event Guide is beneficial and mention to them that you heard about the event through “Joerg’s Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”. Thanks!

Free ANIMATION WORKSHOP FOR KIDS IN DUBLIN
Would you like your kid to learn how to animate? And would you like him/her to get to know Chopin’s music at the same time? And all this for free? The Polish Embassy together with the IFI are inviting children from 10-13 to take part in a free animation workshop in Dublin from 20-24 July (Tue-Sat; 10:00-17:00 each day). In this free workshop kids will learn about basic animation techniques, using music by the classical composer Fryderyk Chopin (to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth). For the workshop, participants will be guided by expert animators and will be shown how different animation techniques work. They will also make a short film of their own, with a Chopin soundtrack. The workshops will be in English language and children must be familiar with using the computer. They have to bring their own lunch and workshops will take place in Digital Hub, James St and IFI, Eustace St. – To book a place or for more information, please contact:
Alicia McGivern, Irish Film Institute, 01-612 9466 or amcgivern@irishfilm.ie or
Nikola Sekowska, Polish Embassy in Dublin, 01-219 7430, dublin.culture@msz.gov.pl – Please book as soon as possible as places are limited. www.irishfilm.ie/index_245.asp
NATIONAL MUSEUM EVENTS
This week, I didn’t have enough time to transcribe the National Museum Events, so please have a look at www.museum.ie/en/list/calendar-of-events.aspx to check if there is something for you on the list. An interesting new development is that the National Museum now charges for Public Tours an admission charge of 2 Euro. This seems to be brand new, I can’t remember seeing it before, but I didn’t see any announcement of the change. From free to 2 Euro, it is a significant enough change that I would have expected some public announcement and justification. Sure 2 Euro is still very very low and the service the Museum provides will not be covered in the slightest by this fee, but in the interest of honesty and transparency, I would have expected an official statement.
NEW LIVE VENUE OPENING
This weekend a new Live music venue opens its doors to Jazz. The new venue will open this weekend and a Jazz focused newsletter that I came across told me about some Jazz events there, but it seems that Jazz is only one of many facets. The new venue is the “Dark Horse Inn” (formerly the White Horse Inn) on 1 George’s Quay in Dublin 2, directly beside Tara Street DART Station. It will unfortunately not be free, but having more live venues is always a good thing considering the large amount of bands we have in Dublin. The Dark Horse Inn is now under new ownership/management and has been refurbished and has opened its doors on Thursday 15 July. There will be Live entertainment 4 nights a week (Thursday-Sunday).
DEPAUL IRELAND SURVEY – WIN ELECTRIC PICNIC TICKET
Depaul Ireland delivers innovative services to homeless people in Dublin, Belfast and Dungannon. They are working to raise their profile and need your help! By taking just a few minutes to complete their survey, you will help them plan their next steps. By completing the survey and submitting your email address, you could win a pair of tickets to this year’s Electric Picnic, where Depaul Ireland have had a presence (Life’s No Picnic on the Streets) for the last three years. The link to the survey is here and to get your name into the draw for the pair of tickets your entry has to be made before the 21 July. This is the link to the survey: www.surveymonkey.com/s/depaulireland2010
———Opportunities—————–
In order to beat an economic downturn not governments can help, but individuals are needed that take the initiative and to create new markets and new opportunities for themselves and for their customers and hopefully employees. The banks don’t help anymore, the government doesn’t want to help, so we have to help ourselves! The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) will help you if you have recently started a company and if you could do with spreading the word. I hope being mentioned here and being seen by the 6500+ readers of the Event Guide will kick start something big for you. In return I expect you to tell your clients and friends about the Event Guide and once you have made a nice bit of money, a donation would be very appreciated. ;-) (This offer is for start-ups in relatively early stages only. Established companies can contact me regarding very affordable advertisement options in the Dublin Event Guide.) If you want to promote your start-up/young company here for free, let me know: dublineventguide@gmail.com.
More to come!

______Exhibitions_______________
Based on your feedback, I have decided to do the following with the Exhibition section in this newsletter from now on: I will provide you with a link to a near-comprehensive listing of exhibitions provided by www.visualartists.ie. For me to list all exhibitions would only be doubling their good work and would be an inefficient use of my resources. The link is visualartists.ie/category/listings/exhib-lein/
On top of that I will every now and then include here a small selection of exhibitions that either are not mentioned in the Visual Artist listing or are note-worthy to be mentioned separately.
METROPOLITAN ART EXHIBITION – AMATEUR ARTISTS

In the last few years, the Fireworks has been impressive and was definitely worth a visit. But be prepared for LOTS of people and very few car park spaces. It is a great Community Festival incorporating arts, music, and air display, fun for all the family! Check out www.braysummerfest.com or download the full brochure here www.braysummerfest.com/2010/documents/bray_summerfest_2010.pdf Next weekend on 25 July the Bray Airshow will take place. Mark it in your calendar if you are interested in flying objects. ;-)

The Metropolitan Church in 57 Irishtown Road, Dublin 4 is the venue for a Car Boot Sale. It takes place on Sat 17 July from 09:00-14:00. Admission for buyers is free (EUR 15 for sellers). dublincity.olx.ie/car-boot-sales-irishtown-dublin-4-iid-93754493

FRENCH WEEK – DUBLIN DOCKLANDS
From Tues 13 – Sun 18 July (Tues-Sat: 11:00-22:00, Sun 11:00-20:00) a French Week will be celebrated at the Docklands. The event coincides with the 50th anniversary of Alliance Française and the Bastille Day (14 July) and as part of the celebrations, the Belem, the oldest sailing ship in Europe will sail into the Docklands.
The event is about all things French and bringing alive a festival atmosphere, Le Marche de France, the fabulous French markets that are run nationwide, will be hosting a Festival market. Offering French food, crafts and French atmosphere it will celebrate French culture, heritage and music.
The Belem, a French merchant ship, which was once the property of the Guinness family, is France’s only remaining three-masted barque and Europe’s oldest. The Belem will be at Spencer’s Dock and can be visited until the evening of Fri 16 July (10:00-17:00). Apart from the boat and the French food market “plenty of entertainment” is promised, but unfortunately the website never got updated to include details about the “plenty of entertainment” www.dublindocklands.ie/index.jsp?p=109&n=341&i=229&mID=100&cID=32
POINT VILLAGE MARKET
Every weekend on Sat and Sun the Point Village Market is taking place. It is an outdoor food market with a flea market-like add-on. The market is next to the Point Depot (O2), right beside the last Luas stop “The Point” on the Red Line. In addition to the market, there is outdoor entertainment every week on the Gig Rig stage and you can find out the programme here www.pointvillagemarket.ie/events On Saturday 17 Jul, Laura Purfield, Miracle Bell and Celsey & Monica will perform and on Sunday 18 Jul, the Gospel Project will be on stage (12:30). All details are on www.pointvillagemarket.ie/events
DUBLIN ROSE FESTIVAL – ST. ANNE’S PARK; RAHENY
The Dublin City Rose Festival will be held on the 17+18 July from 10:30-18:00 in St.Anne’s Park, Raheny, Dublin 5. Apart from the horticultural aspect of the festival (the Rose Trials on Friday from 10:00-14:00), a variety of entertainment will also be provided on both days including guided walks of the rose garden, live music, food stalls, a farmer’s market, a picnic area, and children’s entertainment with face painting, Viking re-enactments, t-shirt workshops and lots more. Despite many years of this festival and probably because the organiser is Dublin City, there is still no proper website for the festival, so timetables for the live entertainment etc are top secret, it seems. Year after year, for the third year now I get frustrated with Dublin City. The events are really great and there is a lot of variety, but getting the word out and providing detail is a disaster.
www.dublin.ie/calendar_details.aspx?eventid=2323

STREET FEAST – CELEBRATE COMMUNITY
Street Feast is a new national event to celebrate community. Street Feast is a neighbourhood meal that will be hosted by you and your neighbours, and will be happening in communities all over Ireland on Sun 18 July. There are lots of good reasons to have a Street Feast. Most of all it’s a great excuse to eat good food, meet new people who live near you and have a bit of fun together. The website www.streetfeast.ie has a map (scroll down to it) that shows all the registered Street Feast events. The map is not yet FULL with markers, but it is just the first year of this event, so hopefully it will grow. There are about 17 events in the greater Dublin area. And if you have no other Street Feast event to go to, then you can come to Merrion Square where from 14:00-18:00 a Picnic will take place. Bring all your own food and blankets etc. And make sure that you leave the Park in the same clean state as it was when you arrived! Dartmouth Square, Sandymount Green and Ranelagh Gardens are among other greens/parks that are taking part, so you should find a venue for a picnic easily. www.streetfeast.ie

Please note: This section contains observations taken from the world I live in that strike me as odd. I express my personal opinion and you might not share it. If you are easily offended by opinions that are not identical with your own, please don’t read this section. ;-)
Because I had to catch up on so many mails, I didn’t manage to write up a “This is odd” this week. All will be back again next week. However if you would like to contribute a “This is odd” article, let me know!

It would help me if you told me in an e-mail why you decided to unsubscribe, but that is not a “Must”. If you only want to stop receiving the newsletter temporarily, you can – if you wish – discuss this with me by e-mail so that we find a solution that makes sense to you. If you unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of the mail and there is a chance that you – at some stage – want to re-subscribe, please make sure that you keep a mail with the “unsubscribe link” because I will not be able to add you anymore to the list once you have unsubscribed using this link. This Event Guide (the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”) is an Event Guide with a difference. It covers mostly free events based on the thinking that free events deserve additional support and that non-free events have the money to pay for advertisement. The Guide is a _guide_ and not just a listing and is therefore at times quite extensive. It is sent for free to anybody who is interested and if you want to be added to the mailing list or know somebody who would like to receive this guide, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the Subject “Subscribe”.
If you have feedback – good or bad – PLEASE tell me via the same e-mail address.
BTW: I am not paid or otherwise rewarded for compiling and distributing this Event Guide it is purely a hobby so your donations are needed: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm. Advertisement in or sponsorship of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) is possible and very welcome, please contact me for more information.
Please note: The Dublin Event Guide (for Free Event) is not related or connected to the former fortnightly printed publication “the event guide” that you found until December 2008 in pubs and other venues.
