Christmas at the Castle Market, Enchanted Garden
Hi!!
Ohhh, what is this? A Dublin Event Guide late on Saturday evening? Yes, today things went very wrong! I had a technical problem that delayed me for many many hours and I nearly scrapped the whole Event Guide this week. (I am very disappointed about it not being with you earlier!) BUT there are so many events on Sunday and for the rest of the week, that I decided to send it anyway albeit VERY late. Apologies!!
BTW: I left the Saturday section in there because removing it would take another while and I would need to make some sizeable changes to my template, so please just ingore the Saturday. Not much was happening today anyway.
Brrrr, did it get cold or what during the week? I encountered snow in Dublin on Thursday evening! Ok, it was only a handful of snowflakes and they didn’t survive long, some parts of Ireland where white on Wednesday/Thursday. :-o
But it gets crazier: Today (Saturday) we had 14 degrees … and torrential rain in some parts of the country with even a red (!) rain warning for Cork and Galway until 10:00 this morning. :-o (14 degrees that is nearly as warm as a “good” mid-summer day in the bad 2024 summer.)
The weather roller coaster in Ireland is definitely getting more severe in the last few years, but we are still VERY lucky.
A good friend of mine lives in Zambia (in the south of Africa) and there they use water power to generate electricity. The Kariba dam on the Zambezi river where the hydroelectric power is generated is the largest artificial water reservoir worldwide and it was providing power to Zambia and Zimbabwe. “WAS” providing power! Because this year, the Kariba dam is only 3.7% full and that level is too low to generate electricity. Last year it was 15% full at the same time and in 2018 it was 60% full. – The consequence? At the moment there are total power cuts for 20 hours EVERY day!! Imagine how your life would change if there were power cuts every day for such a long time! And the reason? Climate change! It doesn’t rain enough anymore.
But despite these challenges, there’s still so much to cherish and celebrate. Every time we come together to enjoy music, art and culture, we remind ourselves of the resilience and creativity that make us human. Here in Dublin, we’re lucky to have a vibrant community that keeps the spirit of connection and joy alive, no matter the weather or the hurdles we face. So bundle up, grab an umbrella and let’s make the most of this weekend’s fantastic cultural events—there’s no better antidote to a rainy day than a bit of inspiration and fun!

Donations in November:
EUR 222
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.
Last week Anyndya, Claire, Last Dino were the wonderful people who helped with a donation. Thank you so much! Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and it is truly a wonderful group of people who help keeping the Dublin Event Guide going. Join this exclusive group! Without donations to pay the bills I will not be able to continue.
With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.
Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

+++ CHRISTMAS AT THE CASTLE
The Christmas at the Castle – Christmas Market is back again this year. I heave heard that a different company is running it this year, so I am a little apprehensive about recommending it. The last company did a bad job in the first year, but then got better and better. The jury is out on the new company. Let’s see how it turns out. Hopefully they took all the good things from last year and will improve it even more.
That Christmas Market is the closest Dublin will get to a proper Christmas Market. Some people complain about too many food stall. but that is exactly what a proper Christmas Market is all about. Food and drink usually makes up around 50% because it is the food and drink that keeps you on the market, not the stalls that sell a some Christmas presents.
Christmas at the Castle will run from 28 Nov until 18 Dec and it will be open from 12:00-21:00 every day.
It is in the Upper Courtyard of Dublin Castle, the PERFECT location for a Christmas Market. NO tickets are required (tickets for a Christmas Market was the daftest idea ever ;-) )
www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=958377999649882
In addition to the market stalls with Christmas goods and crafts, there will be artisan food sold to bring home. The vintage carousel for the children is also back.
In a marquee will be Christmas entertainment, in the Chapel Royal will be a Neapolitan crib and last but not least the already mentioned food stalls with food to eat on site will give you a chance to enjoy a nice evening out.

++ Irish Architecture Foundation EXHIBITIONS

++ MORE FESTIVALS
The inclusion festivals tht the boroughs of Dublin celebrate often do not introduce new events, but instead are just a collection of events that take place with or without the inclusion festival, so I will just list them here and not puta huge emphasis on them in the lisitng above
++ Dublin City Inclusion & Integration Week (11-17 Nov) dublincityinclusion.ie/2024-events/
++ Fingal Inclusion Week (11-17 Nov) www.fingal.ie/events/fingal-inclusion-week-2024
The Irish Language LIterature Festival has a few free events, but is tricky to navigate and is challenging me additionally due to my non-existant Irish skills. If someone provided me with a list of free events, I would include them. Without that, I wil just mention it here:
++ IMRAM Irish Literature Festival (07-16 Nov) imram.ie/

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)
