Hi!!
Last week I mentioned that we are all waiting for this mysterious Indian Summer and here it is! And what an amazing post summer glory it is. 23 degrees at midnight last night, this is just wonderful. I am in heaven when it is that warm. ;-)
I am competing at a Padel tournament this weekend at the Bushy Park Padel & Tennis Club in Terenure and we couldn’t have wished for better weather.
Ohh, and if you are in the area and are interested to find out more about Padel, come to the club house there, go to the reception desk and tell the person at the desk that you are looking for Joerg (that’s me :-D). They will find me and I will meet you then and tell you more about Padel! I will be there nearly all day, so you should be able to find me easily.
Make sure that you make use of/enjoy that wonderful weather, because when it is gone, that’s it until next year around May!!
This weekend the top events are Howth Maritime & Seafood Festival, SwellFest – Sports & Wellness, Richmond Barracks Harvest Fair, Phoenix Park Biodiversity Festival & Honey Show, Lucan Festival. LOTS happening! Enjoy it!
Interested in Artificial Intelligence and ChatGPT? Yes, my invitation is still open. NO date has been determined yet, but there is so much interest that I will most likely run another free 2-hour long “Introduction to AI and ChatGPT” class. If you are interested, let me know here www.getthislink.com/AIclass2
And if you are part of an organisation or club or maybe at your place of work where there is interest in this topic, reply to this e-mail and tell me more and maybe I could run that class for your community. Both, in person or online is possible.
The attendees at the recent online event said “Very interesting couple of hours!” and “This was invaluable. Thank you so much!” and “I enjoyed every minute.” and “Really interesting and thought provoking presentation, it was really engaging!”

Donations in September:
EUR 172
(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)
If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.
The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.
Last week, the wonderful donors were Jeremy, Nicola, Siobhan, Claire, Jana! Thank you very much! Your help is much appreciated and is making a difference. Without it, the Dublin Event Guide can not survive.
With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses.
Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that Euro! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 4. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.
To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

+++ A Complicated History: Ireland and the Caribbean – Talk
Wed 27 Sept – 18:00 – EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, chq Building, Customs House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: Free
Servants and enslavers; merchants and governors; educators and journalists – the history of the Irish in the Caribbean is complex. This talk will survey Irish migration to the region from the 17th century, telling the stories of a diverse range of people who set out to make new lives for themselves in places like Jamaica, Barbados and Cuba. To what extent have Irish people shaped Caribbean societies and economies? And how have Irish-Caribbean relations evolved in the last century?
Dr Catherine Healy, who will give the talk, is Historian-in-Residence at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and she is the curator of a newly opened exhibition on Irish-Caribbean connections.
Admission is free, but booking is required via epicchq.com/event/a-complicated-history-ireland-and-the-caribbean/

You might have never heard of the Minaw Collective, but you probably have seen their huge paintings on buildings. have a look at the gallery on their website www.minawcollective.com/gallery to recognise some of the art that is full of energy and vibrancy.

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or something completely different? Nearly every subject is there! Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99. Sometimes it even goes down further to EUR 9.99 and when that happens (about once or twice a year), I will tell you. But even 12.99 is definitely a good price for what you get! – Check out the website at www.getthislink.com/Udemy22 And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ How It’s Made – Exhibition and Events Series
how it’s made: meitheal is an exhibition and series of events designed to consider how things are extracted from the natural world in modern society and artists reflections of that concept. The exhibition will run from 09-23 September and will be on show in 6 locations in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin.
Artists were paired with engineering experts to learn about how everyday objects are made (i.e. t-shirts, hamburgers, mobile phones, cars, Lego blocks). The artists were invited to create an artful manifestation of the process for a group exhibition, :meitheal (an old Irish term that describes how neighbours would come together to assist in the saving of crops or in other tasks)
The event and exhibition locations are the Warehouse, Vault, Window, Hub and Castle in Balbriggan but the organisers don’t make it too easy to find addresses for the locations. You will have to go to reclaimingthearts.org/ to find them.
The event page for the “How it’s made” is at scealcollective.com/how-its-made-programme/
Opening events are on Sat 09 September and there are a number of workshops on Sunday 10 Sept.
