I hope you had a great St. Patrick’s Day yesterday. The weather was for a St. Patrick’s Day exceptionally good and now let’s hope that the warmer weather will come and stay.
|
|
St. Patrick’s Day is over, but the St. Patrick’s Festival not yet. The free events will continue at the festival village at Collins Barracks for another day (Saturday) and hopefully you will get a chance to be part of it. (I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed that the Festival Village events end before the weekend is over.)
|
|
|
|
Another highlight for many at this weekend will be the Rugby match tomorrow. If you are Irish, you know that the nation’s pride could get a great boost if Ireland win. If you are not Irish, you might support Ireland anyway, but I also know LOTS of people that have no particular interest in Rugby.
|
|
I had close to zero exposure to Rugby before I came to Ireland and despite all the years here and the successes that Ireland had in the last 10 years or so, I still struggle to share the excitement. But I am happy to support the supporters :-) and although I might not watch the game, I definitely hope Ireland will win!

The week after St. Patrick’s Day often comes with less events because people (and event organisers) need to recover again, so don’t expect tooo much for next week. On the other hand, if you are a Dublin Event Guide reader for a while, you know that there is always SOMETHING happening in Dublin. …and if it is happening and is free, then you will find it here! :-)

The 800th anniversary donations were EUR 230 (see above) and for now, I keep that separate from the “upkeep” donations. The reason for that is that I plan to use that money to fix and modernise the Dublin Event Guide website. It really needs it and I was postponing that for a long time of the cost that are not covered by the normal donations.

In St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral Vespers (sung masses) will take place every Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday at 17:30 it is with the St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral Girls Choir and on Fridays at 17:30 with the Palestrina Choir.

+++ Five Lamps Art Festival
For the 16th time, the Five Lamps Arts Festival will take place in the North Inner City Area around the Five Lamps, a street lantern at a 5-street junction in Amiens Street, Dublin 1. The festival will run from 13-31 March and will come with lots of events and many of them are free. +++ Discover Dublin Docklands App
Dublin City has a new app that allows us to discover iconic Dublin landmarks such as the famine statues, the CHQ building and more.
The app is available to download for free via doorsintodocklands.com/
After you got the app, you can point your phone at the landmarks and this will prompt the related images, videos and stories to pop up.
The app uses Augmented Reality (AR), a mix of 3D graphics, animation and audio, to immerse users in the story of the city.
Several colourful characters from history will also appear in AR to tell their tales. These include Captain Bligh who surveyed Dublin Bay in the 1800s and Maggie Doyle, who was a docker’s daughter.
