Dublin Event Guide 772: They have done it again!! — Funtropolis, India Day, People’s Art Exhibition, Outdoor Movies in Dun Laoghaire, Dandelion Market

Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)

They have done it again!!

Funtropolis, India Day, People’s Art Exhibition, Outdoor Movies in Dun Laoghaire, Dandelion Market

Good Morning!

They have done it again! It is either clever marketing because everyone (including me!) writes about it and many get annoyed about it, which gets more people to talk about it and is therefore more clever marketing. ;-)

OR they just have not enough products to sell in their shops and therefore need to fill the shop floor with stuff that makes no sense yet. ;-)

What happened, you ask? This: On 16 August 2022, Brown Thomas have opened their Christmas shop again!

I love Christmas, but – like most of you – I think and agree that opening a Christmas shop in summer is madness, but Brown Thomas just got free advertisement in the Dublin Event Guide, so it seemingly is working out well for them. :-D

And what SHOULD we do? Ignore it! Do not tell anyone about it, don’t go there, don’t get annoyed, upset or outraged, just ignore it. That’ll teach them! ….or probably not! :-) But it will make us feel better.

Join me instead in enjoying the last 1.5 weeks of the epic Summer 2022! (Meteorologically autumn starts on 01 September in Ireland.)

And what else is happening in that corner at this time of the year? Mariah Carey is trying to trademark the name “Queen of Christmas” as the UK Times reported yesterday. (twitter.com/i/events/1560294211647422465) But 81-year old Californian Singer Darlene Love and the self-declared “Official Queen of Christmas”, singer Elizabeth Chan are fighting the trademark application.

And you thought it is not time yet for Christmas stuff???? ;-)

Donations in August:
EUR 307

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

The great people that donated last week were Susan, Audrey, Sidita, Frank and Mirjam! Thank you so much! Your donation will keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and will motivate me to continue week after week. I appreciate you and your support!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ Funtropolis – Summer Festival in Mountjoy Square
In July, the first edition of Funtropolis took place in Merrion Square and this weekend the event is coming to Mountjoy Square from 12:00-18:00 on Sunday 21 August.

The event will bring live performances, street theatre, science shows, immersive storytelling, food and drink and more. Funtropolis is the name for both festivals, but the Mountjoy Square version will be somewhat different than the Merrion Square version.

The storytelling will come from EPIC – The Irish Emigration Museum with writer Sarah Webb. East Wall Folk Singer Macdara Yeates will sing sons and tell stories. The Big Dig will provide hands-on learning for young people through a simulated archaeological dig.
Live music will be performed by the “Rathfarnham Ukulele Performance Group” (RUGS), Cork based Irish Brass Band “Code of Behaviour”, “Grooveline”, an Irish language, teenage funk rock band and a DJ will get you to dance this his beat.
Live performers at Funtropolis this Sunday will be Smiley & Veneer with comedy, live music and song, Bee-ology with circus, storytelling and ecology education about bees, Cryptozoologist Mick Minogue and “Strong Women Science” with a circus and science show.
Admission is free and the event is suitable for all ages. www.dublincity.ie/events/funtropolis

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or NLP or some Business related “soft skills”? Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest price most of the time is EUR 12.99, so definitely do-able. Occasionally it goes even below that and I will mention it here when I find out. Check out the website at shor.by/GqCk And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ Natural History Museum partially re-opened!
After two long long years, the Natural History Museum, also known as the “Dead Zoo” has re-opened its doors on Tuesday 02 August. The museum was closed for renovation and the works is still not completed, but the ground floor has been re-opened and at least some part will therefore be accessible again.
Admission will remain free, but different to before, you will now need to book a timed ticket to access the museum. A visit is expected to take approx. 45 minutes.
All details are here www.museum.ie/en-IE/Museums/Natural-History/Visitor-Information/Reopening-FAQs Since large parts of the museum will stay closed, it will take another good while until events will return, but it is great that the museum is open again.

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,

–Joerg (dublineventguide@gmail.com)
