Dublin Event Guide 749: Happy St. Patrick’s Festival Week! – Lots of St. Patrick’s Day Events, Creative Brain Week and more

Dublin Event Guide (for free events)

Happy St. Patrick’s Festival Week!

Lots of St. Patrick’s Day Events, Creative Brain Week and more.

Hi all!

Last week was BUSY! With International Women’s Day and Enterprise Week and a good few other events, the Dublin Event Guide was full of free events. But less and less people are finding out about these free events! :-O

As long as you have subscribed to the e-mail version of the Dublin Event Guide you will never miss out. (Subscription is completely free and you can easily subscribe at www.DublinEventGuide.com)

But the people that only read the Dublin Event Guide on Facebook will see less and less. Facebook is partially to be blamed, but only partially. The main reason why less and less of the 83,000 Facebook Followers of the Dublin Event Guide will find out about the free events is because not enough people tell Facebook that they WANT to see these weekly posts.

This is a problem for all providers of valuable information on Facebook. And YOU can fix it! All you have to do is ENGAGE with the post, by clicking on the links below a post and by giving some feedback on a post. Facebook then realises that you actually really want to see the content and will show you more of it.

Very very simple, but when you don’t do it, then Facebook will assume that what they just showed is NOT something you want to see and then you will be shown less of it. Makes some sense, doesn’t it!? But it means (and that doesn’t apply just to the Dublin Event Guide posts!) that YOU need to tell Facebook what you want to see. Passively consuming means Facebook will decide for you!

This coming week is St Patrick’s Day Festival and I hope that you will have a good time AND that more people than last week will find out about all these great free events.I will post some (but not all) events from the St. Patrick’s Festival in the listings on Wed, Thur and Fri, but if you want to find ALL events, you better check stpatricksfestival.ie/events

Still, there are sooo many events that this Dublin Event Guide was sent MUCH too late again. :-/ Apologies!

Donations in March:
EUR 246

(By the end of the month, this number has to reach or exceed EUR 200 to guarantee the continuation of the Dublin Event Guide.)

If the Dublin Event Guide helps you to find out about free events in Dublin, please help with a donation.

The counter here shows the current donation status. By the end of the month EUR 200 will be subtracted to pay the bills. If more money has been donated, the rest will be carried forward. If donations have stopped below the EUR 200, the missing amount will be carried over.

Last week the great people that helped with a donation were: Marie, Diana, Sarah, Lourein, Cliodhna, Emma, Joaquin, Aisling. Thank you very much! You are appreciated and your donation is as well!

With the above counter you know at all times where we stand and when donating is needed. Donations keep the Dublin Event Guide alive and all donors will also get some additional bonuses. The first of those bonuses is described above.

Here are some more details about donations:
Any amount is appreciated, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. – That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that! If your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee for just EUR 3. All donations will be used in full for the Dublin Event Guide.

To donate, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page here: gturl.eu/DEGdonate. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the donation page! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are therefore very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)

In case the donation page doesn’t work for you, the old links are here: You can donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb or now also revolut.me/joergbrb
(If possible, please send your full name and e-mail address as a message with the payment via PayPal or Revolut so that I can tell you about bonuses for donors when available.)

To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG

And there is one other way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?

Thank you!!

+++ Green Roots Project Art Exhibition
17-20 March – 10:00-17:00 – CHQ Building, Custom House Quay, Dublin 1 – Adm: Free
At the Green Roots Project, it is believed that Ireland is uniquely placed to be a leader of the sustainability movement. Their goal is to encourage people, communities, businesses, schools/colleges and organisations to engage in more environmentally positive actions. This March, they are encouraging children, teens and adults to get involved in green/eco-activities around the celebration of Ireland’s National feast day, in ways that will produce lasting positive impacts on people, local communities and the environment. The “40 Shades of Green” poster art exhibition will be on display in the CHQ Building and the posters have been created by pupils in Irish schools who answered the questions: “In these days of Climate Crisis, what does it really mean to be Green in Ireland? What have we done and what are we doing and what will we be doing in the future to live more sustainably?” epicchq.com/event/green-roots-project-art-exhibition/

The full schedule for the Festival Quarter is here stpatricksfestival.ie/media/pages/events/spf-day-to-day-listings/47027f387d-1646924529/a4-timetable-with-map-1.jpg All events are free and while some require tickets, many do not. Find all events via stpatricksfestival.ie/festival-quarter-nmi
Please note: There is NO parking at Collins Barracks!!

On St. Patrick’s Day, the parade will start at 12:00 at Parnell Square and will run for approx. 2 hours until it reaches Kevin Street. A map of the parade route can be found here stpatricksfestival.ie/media/pages/events/parade/1f49b966c5-1646842157/parade_route_-_city_guide-a4.pdf IN previous years it was close to impossible to see anything of the parade in the O’Connell Street area and the Dame Street area. The highest possibility of seeing something – in my experience – is between Christ Church and St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Nicolas Street and Patrick Street. If you want to have a good viewing position go EARLY and I mean REALLY early. If you are not there by 10:00 you will be – at least in Dame Street – too far back to see anything. Find all parade details here stpatricksfestival.ie/events/parade

All Festival events can be found on the website here stpatricksfestival.ie/events The website is close to useless on my Android phone, so you better check it out on your computer.

The Breathe Festival at the Law Society at Blackhall Place, Dublin 7 on 18+19 March is not free. It is all about Wellness and Sustainability and you find details at breathefestival.ie

+++ OUTing the Past 2022 – LGBTI+ History Festival
From 18 March until 10 April fifteen organisations across Ireland will invite to 39 events that will shine a spotlight on the history of the LGBTI+ community. Mainly through talks (in-person or online), webinars and workshops, academics and activists will create this platform for previously overlooked LGBTI+ histories. The website www.outingthepast.com unfortunately does NOT provide the festival information at the time of writing this. But the National Museum has put the PDF of the programme online and you can find it here: www.getthislink.com/OTP22

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or NLP or some Business related “soft skills”? Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest cost for courses this month will be around 12.99. Check out the website at shor.by/GqCk And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)

+++ The Treaty 1921: Records from the Archives – Exhibition
From 07 Dec to 27 March the Coach House in the gardens of Dublin Castle will be the home of a National Archives exhibition about “The Treaty 1921: Records from the Archives”. The Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 is the centre piece of the exhibition. Find out more here www.dublincastle.ie/2022_centenary/  Admission is free, but you need to book via www.nationalarchives.ie/2021commemorationprogramme/book-tickets/

+++ National Gallery tickets available here
The National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: www.nationalgallery.ie/visit-us/book-your-ticket The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here www.nationalgallery.ie/whats-on and then book tickets for them.

And this is it for another week! Have a great weekend and good new week.

Take care,

–Joerg (dublineventguide@gmail.com)
