Hi all!
Sooooo, the opening of pubs and restaurants is postponed again. :-O It is not that we all totally depend on pubs and restaurants to be open for indoor service. Alcohol is available through supermarkets and off licenses and restaurant food is available for collection or delivery even if we don’t want to sit outside.
|
|
|
|
So it is not the availability of the food and drink that is the disappointing part. The disappointing part is that with that food and drink service other cultural services are provided. Gigs and comedy are the easiest examples, but the function rooms in pubs, restaurants and hotels are also used for talks, seminars ad other cultural get together. Because of that, not because of the alcohol I was hoping that the original plans would go ahead.
Sadly the new plans are no plans at all, it is just a let’s wait and see approach. And with an expected sizeable increase in number of infections from September again and a Lambda variant already on its way from Peru, there is now a real risk that no pub or restaurant will open their door until next year. :-O
Hopefully the cultural summer programme that is sponsored by the government and that will start soon will keep us in touch with our culture!

There are still lots of free events every week and I am doing my best to let you know about them, but it seems that the love that I felt coming from you, the readers, and that was directed at the Dublin Event Guide for many many years has weakened a LOT.
I see that tangibly in the Facebook reactions to the weekly post. The reach has consequently suffered hugely. The opening rates of the Dublin Event Guid by the e-mail subscribers has also suffered and the worst is the impact on the donations.
Week after week I am wondering if that has to do with the lack of real life events or if you just grew tired of the Dublin Event Guide. Let me know by sending an e-mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com or by replying to this mail.

+++ COMPETITION: Swing into Summer Sunday Jazz Gala
The online concert “Swing into Summer Sunday Jazz Gala” will take place on Sun 11 July from 15:00-19:00 It’s a very special day of jazz with singer Mary Coughlan and a whole range of the best Irish jazz, from classic vocals to cool electronic-influenced modern sounds. And there is not only great Jazz, the concert is also for a very good cause: The Irish Jazz Community is raising funds for Phil Ware, a renowned pianist and teacher on the Irish jazz scene who suffered a serious stroke last year which has left him severely disabled and in need of long-term support. +++ Visit Dublin Castle for free
Until the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15). Tickets can be booked at dublincastle.admit-one.eu/?p=calendar&ev=SELFGUIDE for free there will also a limited number of tickets available at the ticket desk.

The National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: www.nationalgallery.ie/visit-us/book-your-ticket The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here www.nationalgallery.ie/whats-on and then book tickets for them.
