Hi all!
You can decide if today’s headline refers to life in Dublin OR to the Dublin Event Guide being back after a health-related issue stopped me – for the very first in 14 years!! – to send last week’s edition.
Actually, on BOTH fronts the news is good!
All shops are open, all restaurants and pubs can open outdoors, museums, gyms, etc are back open, just the indoor service in restaurants and pubs still has to wait another bit (until 05 July). And even the first gig (outdoors) and the first sports events with spectators have happened again.
|
|
|
Regarding my own little hiccup, I first want to thank you all for your support last week. (And thanks for the lovely virtual coffees!) I got lots of messages, but did very much stay from any screen for the days I was told to stay away, so I still will need to reply to some! In case you missed it, I needed unexpected and quite urgent eye surgery last Friday. But the great people at the Eye and Ear Hospital and the wonders of modern medicine, in this case it was LASER technology, had me back “on my bike” in just a few days and with zero pain or problems.
So we are truly getting back to normality and while events still have a little way to go, things will continue to move fast from now!
|
|
The “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events” will be here for you to help you find out about all the free events in Dublin for as long as you are staying with me. We “lost” a lot of readers in the last 1.5 years while events had stopped or moved to Zoom, but now it is time to re-discover culture and our city and if you can help spreading the word or reminding them again of the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)”, that would be really great. You, your friends and colleagues can sign up for the free weekly newsletter at www.DublinEventGuide.com
|
|
|
Yes, the tip jar will not go away either. ;-) As long as the Dublin Event Guide will exist, some money will be needed to pay for sending it, hosting it, for domain names and software that I use. It is not a huge amount of money and I will not take anything out of the jar for myself, but I need about EUR 200 per month to cover the bills.
Unfortunately months pass faster than the the money is raised, so often there is a shortfall and that’s when it gets tricky.
|
|
|
So the Dublin Event Guide is a free service, but it needs your donations to keep going. Any amount in the Tip Jar will help! But if you are looking for a recommendation, then I suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. That’s just one Euro per month and you get FOUR Dublin Event Guides for that. That’s amazing value! And if your funds are limited, but you still want to help, you can buy a virtual coffee. I won’t drink the coffee, but will use the money for the Dublin Event Guide.
For donations, use the Dublin Event Guide Donation Page. It is really easy to use and uses Stripe’s trustworthy payment processing. In case it doesn’t work for you of if you read this on Facebook, the old links are still and can also be used. You can even sign up for a yearly subscription on the page above! Yearly subscriptions will give some important financial stability and reliability to the Dublin Event Guide and are very much appreciated! (Look for the RED subscription buttons at the bottom of the Donation Page.)
You can donate here via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide or for Revolut users among you, just use @joergbrb
To buy one or two or even three virtual coffees (or Hot Chocolates!) for the Dublin Event Guide, come to the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
|
|
Finally, there is also another way to help and it is even free: If you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent! ?
Thank you!!

+++ FESTIVALS this week
June is clearly a month for festivals in Dublin and this week there are no less than SEVEN different festivals taking place or starting. Here is the list:
++ Cruinniú na nÓg – Ireland’s National Day of Creativity for children and young people cruinniu.creativeireland.gov.ie/events/
++ Dublin Pride 2021 (01-28 June) dublinpride.ie/events/
++ International Dublin Ga y Theatre Festival (07-30 June) www.gaytheatre.ie/programme2021/
++ Bloomsday Festival Events (11-16 June) www.bloomsdayfestival.ie/bloomsday-programme2021

++ Stoneybatter Festival, Stoneybatter, Dublin 7 from 18-20 June www.stoneybatterfestival.ie/
Check them out!

++ What’s wrong with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council?
All shops are open, all farmers’ markets in Dublin are open, all outdoors facilities are open, but Dun Laoghaire Rathdown is still keeping the weekly markets in Marlay Park and in the People’s Park in Dun Laoghaire closed. Why is that?
The Facebook Page for dlrevents is dead and the Facebook Page for the county council totally ignores the fact hat the markets are seemingly still closed. And on the website www.dlrcoco.ie/en/markets there hasn’t been an update since October 2020.
Are the health risks in Dun Laoghaire bigger than in the rest of the country? Or are the councillors there smarter than in other places? Why don’t they at least let us know when the markets MIGHT open again?

+++ Free admission to ALL Irish Heritage Sites managed by OPW
The OPW (Office of Public Works) manages most Irish Heritage sites, including Dublin Castle, Kilmainham Gaol, Rathfarnham Castle, Kilkenny Castle, Brú Na Bóinne/Newgrange Visitor Centre and many others. To hel pwith the recovery and getting back to normality, the Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW, Patrick O’ Donovan has announced that admission to all sites will be free until the end of the year.
In normal times this would be super news and I would celebrate it. But at the moment we still are in different times. Some sites are closed (e.g. Kilmainham Gaol), other sites have limited visitor numbers and guided tours are also still cancelled. So the celebration is a little dampened, BUT, there is a real possibility that all sites will open before the end of year AND that guided tours will re-start again and once that happens, then this free access until the end of the year is great news. Find all details on heritageireland.ie/

+++ LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES
Is there ever a wrong time for learning a new skill or enhancing what you are already interested in? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or NLP or some Business related “soft skills”? Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available. Nearly all the courses are REALLY affordable!
The lowest cost for courses this month will be around 12.99. Check out the website at shor.by/GqCk And if you buy through that link, you also help the Dublin Event Guide! :-)
|
+++ READ MORE BOOKS
For physical books and e-books I recommend Book Depository because they are usually cheaper than others and they always include free delivery in their price AND by buying books from Book Depository you will definitely help the Dublin Event Guide and it doesn’t cost you a cent. Buy your books here shor.by/BookDepository .
