Hi all!
Things are still tough for most of us. Yes, there is a glimmer of light on the horizon, but right now we are still locked away. Most of us haven’t experienced a cultural event live event since last March and Zoom events are just not the same.
So with all that in mind, I get why the interest in the events that I am trying to tell you about is weak – to put it mildly.

On Facebook the response and feedback is worryingly low. The opening rate for the e-mails has dropped further and last week we didn’t manage to get one single cent of a donation. Maybe it is a sign of the times, but the problem is that things like Facebook reach is not something that can be turned off and on like a light bulb, but once the reach is gone, then it is super hard to get the numbers up again. “Reach” is achieved by people – that is you! – engaging with the weekly post. Writing some feedback, clicking on the button that confirms that you appreciate a post and telling others about a post are the three “currencies” that tells Facebook that more people should see this post. If Facebook gets the impression that you are not interested, it will not show the post.
On the other end is me, who writes the Dublin Event Guide and – for a change – I want to be completely open with you about this: The only thrill I get out of spending hours searching for content and putting it together in this newsletter, is the feedback I get from you! If I get the impression that you are happy about what the Dublin Event Guide gives you, I love giving more. If I feel that there is nobody out there anymore, then I drag my heels to the keyboard and am wondering if all this is worth it.

Maybe it will change again when real life events start again, but right now it all looks as dim as our social life! Connections Arts Centre is a Social Enterprise and they will launch their website on 12 April. To celebrate this they will make 100 free classes available over a period of two weeks.
The clases are for adults with disabilities and the wider disability community and are in the areas of Music, Art, Yoga or Cookery.

Every year the Dublin City Libraries select a book that has a connection with Dublin either through its content or its author as the “One Dublin One Book” selection. The libraries encourage everyone to read that book and there are lots of events during April in connection with the chosen book.

In 2021, the selected book is “Leonard and Hungry Paul”. Leonard and Hungry Paul are two quiet friends who see the world differently. They use humour, board games and silence to steer their way through the maelstrom that is the 21st century.
