Festival of Curiosity, Hotter than July, PhotoIreland Festival – No pubs yet, but lots of other great events!

Hi all!

What an great trick we pulled off last week! ;-) Thank you! 65 of you left some feedback underneath the Dublin Event Guide post on Facebook and that relatively simple action, got us to reach more than 15,000 MORE people than in previous weeks! When Facebook thinks a post is in demand, then it will show lots more people!
Can we do that again?? Would be really great to spread the word about the “Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)” as far as possible and to win against Facebook’s algorithm. ;-)

This weekend we should ALL be in Merrion Square!! In normal times, this would have been the weekend of the Laya Healthcare City Spectacular, the BEST family-friendly festival in Dublin. Unsurprisingly it had to be cancelled, but the cultural (and economic)  damage this virus (or maybe more so, the applications of the Irish Government’s rules!?) has on us is HUGE!

Do we have enough of a public discussion about our post-Covid society? What do we want Ireland to look like and what price are we prepared to pay for it in economical terms but also in human terms?? Everything has its price! Keeping the pubs closed, will cost something and opening the pubs will possibly also cost something. How much are YOU prepared to pay in money and in freedom? It seems to me that nobody is really openly discussing this. We expect the government to know what to do, but they do NOT (and how could they!). We trust doctors or scientists for public behaviour policies, but they are also only guessing and assuming. We will HAVE to step up if we want to be heard!!!

And we are on the way to a long list of free events again. Are you ready for it?

But just before we get there, I will have to beg again: The Dublin Event Guide is entirely crowdfunded. The occasional company sponsorship helps a lot, but doesn’t cover all the bills for the year. For that reason I still need to ask for your help! I use all donations to cover the cost for sending and hosting the Dublin Event Guide. Your donations are not for me, I don’t make any money from it!

You can help with some “virtual coffees” or maybe even a 10 Euro donation via Paypal or Revolut. Every cent is MUCH appreciated!! Thank you!

You can contribute here on the “Buy Me a Coffee” site: www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG
Or even better (because I don’t have to pay any fees) you can donate directly via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide
And for the Revolut users among you, it is super easy via 0872931571.

Thank you very very much!

epicchq.com/tiny-tots-summer-storytelling-epic-museum/
Tiny Tots is back at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum! Suitable for 2-5 year olds, join us on a journey across the sea alongside Irish emigrants in this original adventure tale composed by EPIC.
Delivered via Zoom, we’ll meet some of the museum’s famous characters in a fun, interactive storytelling session. First, we’ll go on a “Viking Voyage”, then crash a “Pirate Party”, before we join the “Nautical Navy” and meet the “Singing Submarine”.
Participants will need crayons and paper to take part as we bring the story to life at home with the help of our little ones! Afterwards, to bring the usual Tiny Tots experience to life as much as possible, we’ll have some time for chats.
Since this session will be via Zoom, please do not journey to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum for it.

From hot chocolate to tattoo machines, croquet to submarines, you’ll be amazed at what inventions have come from Ireland and its emigrants!

Back at work but hungry for more events and suggestions?

I found a few more things to keep you going in between the events that are listed above. ;-)

1) Virtual Tour of the week
This week the National Museum and the National Gallery will both fully open again. So I would like to remind you of their great permanent exhibitions and restarting event programmes.
On the Museum At Home Pages of the National Museum (www.museum.ie/en-ie/museum-at-home) you can see the collections of the four National Museums (Archaeology, Decorative Arts & History, Natural History and Country Life). Have a look at some of the exhibits to get a taste for the museums and hopefully visit the live museum again soon!
The National Gallery has a “National Gallery at home” section with Virtual Tours, Exhibitions, Activities, Podcasts, Videos and lots more details, even a Spotify Playlist section! You find the details here www.nationalgallery.ie/national-gallery-ireland-at-home

2) Online Courses
During the Covid lockdown, enrollments in Udemy courses increased by 425%! Wow! What did you learn during that time? In July most Udemy courses will cost between EUR 10.99 and 12.99, so it is not too late yet to learn something new. Use this link shor.by/GqCk because if you buy through that link, you help the Dublin Event Guide! ;-)

3) Books
A free Book summary per week can be found here: readitfor.me/91927
And to buy books I recommend Book Depository because they are usually cheaper than others and they always include delivery for free (and by using this link you help the Dublin Event Guide): www.bookdepository.com/?a_aid=dubevg
Some of you have asked me to continue with the weekly book suggestions, so here is another one.
Kobe Bryant, the brilliant basketball player, who died just 41 years of age in January 2020 in a helicopter crash, was not “just” a basketball player, but also was inspirational, intelligent and analytical and he wrote a much praised book that was only released after his accident. The book is called “The Mamba Mentality: How I Play” and while a lot in the book is about basketball, it is also a book that explains the mentality of success. www.bookdepository.com/book/9781471190148/?a_aid=dubevg

And this is it for another week! Have a good weekend and new week. Stay sane and safe and smile, laugh and stay in contact with your friends!Take care,

–Joerg
