Hi all!

After more than 11 years and 600 continuous weeks of creating Dublin Event Guides, this is it – at least in the current form. This is the last edition of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) and ironically with this last edition I had soooo many technical problems that the sending was delayed by more than 2 hours. :-O
Thanks for being with me on this path for the last few years! Thanks for your support! Thanks for your donations and on behalf of the event organisers of free events in Dublin: Thanks for coming to all these events. But importantly don’t stop! You hopefully now know lots more venues that run free events and you should go regularly. For yourself, your cultural enrichment and for your happiness and also to support the people that run free events. Have a great time and I will see you around!! :-) (Check the Dublin News for a bit more information about the retirement of the Dublin Event Guide.)

[quads id=1]

The donations over the last few weeks didn’t stop so that we brought the bill down to just around EUR 25 and I am more than happy to sort that! :-) Thanks sooo much for all your help. In future the cost will be lower and I hope to cover that mainly through bits of advertisement and my own money. But if you feel now is the time to donate a few cent because you got great benefit from the Dublin Event Guide, you can still do that herePayPal here

And don’t forget that you can also help without spending a cent of your own money, if you buy through the advertisement links that are in the Dublin Event Guide or that are on the Dublin Event Guide Shopping Page at www.DublinEventGuide.com/shop If you want to buy from Groupon or LivingSocial or Amazon or Bookdepository or eBay or Asos or PrettyLittleThing or SportsDirect, just go to that website and click on the relevant link and it will bring you to the right place. The company you buy from will take 5-8% out of their profit (depending on the company) and will reward the Dublin Event Guide for promoting that company. But importantly you don’t pay more! Here are the links: www.dublineventguide.com/shop Thanks for using this page!

+++++++++++

And here is a great opportunity to help the Dublin Event Guide for absolutely no cost to you:

Without putting your hand in your pocket at all you can help the Dublin Event Guide! Just use the ad links in the Dublin News Section and the banner ads in other sections as often as possible when you buy/order goods. If you buy goods immediately (in the same session) after clicking on a link/ad that you find in this publication (for example for Groupon, LivingSocial, Amazon, Book Depository, LastMinute etc), then you help the Dublin Event Guide everytime.
This is how it works: The company you buy from will give a small commission (5-8%) to the Dublin Event Guide as a thanks for pointing you in their direction. This might only be 30 cent a go, but if many of you did it every time you buy something online, then it could make a big dent into the EUR 240 needed. Importantly, you do not pay more, but the merchant accepts a slightly smaller profit. So clicking on these ads is helping everybody! Thanks!

Have an event-full weekend and week,

–Joerg

Feel good slot

The “Feel Good Slot” at this place in the Dublin Event Guide is to share some inspirational, motivational or thought provoking quotes, stories or video clips. You wonder why I added this section to this e-mail magazine? If your week was great, you might not need it, but most of us had some challenging moments in the last week and there could be more in the coming week and this section is for the people that want to overcome the hurdles, achieve more and remember that despite all, life is great!

This week’s Feel Good Slot is appropriate to the retirement of the Dublin Event Guide. As I explained before, it is not a complete end, but it is an end of sorts. So I am quoting Marshall Goldsmith, American leadership coach and author. He said/a>

The last thing I say on most phone calls is not, ‘Goodbye,’ but, ‘Thank you.’ -Marshall Goldsmith

By the way, since this is the last Dublin Event Guide, there might be a few people that like and would like to continue to get selected Feel Good Slot quotes and video clips and occasionally some motivational other posts. I do regularly get mails from people that tell me they read the Dublin Event Guide mainly for the Feel Good Slot. :-) If you want to continue getting posts from me every now and then that deal with motivation, life, feeling good etc, then send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the Subject FEEL GOOD. I have not made a plan for a new newsletter ;-), BUT I come across cool and interesting quotes and content regularly and I could easily just share it with you if you are interested.

Support

Now that things are winding down and the Dublin Event Guide is going into retirement, I won’t ask you for any further support, but I want to thank each and everyone who helped over the last 600 weeks from the bottom of my heart. Without your help, the Dublin Event Guide could not have continued that long, So thank you very very much.

To cover the cost of the Dublin Event Guide EUR 240 per month was needed and I just asked for EUR 12 from generous donors. If EVERYONE who subscribed had donated just EUR 1 OR if every Facebook Follower had donated just EUR 1, the Dublin Event Guide would not retire! But regrettably only less than 1% of all readers were so generous that they helped and for that reason it was a permanent struggle to cover the bills!

Going forward, I will fund the irregular e-mails to you myself, but it would be great if you could click on ads and buy through the ads in this and the future post-retirement Event Guides. I won’t say NO to donations here, but I won’t keep begging like in the past! ;-)

You can donate online by following this link and then Paypal will not subtract any fees, or if you want to use your CreditCard and the previous link doesn’t work for you ou can use this donation page. If you want to transfer your donation directly to my account, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

Last week Ieva B, Paula R, Lorraine M, Amanda L, Sean S, Karen A, Cormac F, Zelie McG and Lisa C were so great to help with a very much needed donation. Thanks! Every cent counts and without all these contributions the Dublin Event Guide won’t continue.

Joergs Picks

This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will/might or would do. This is not a “best of…” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down.

Last week of the Dublin Event Guide and again the only firm recommendation is CHRISTMAS MARKETS! or rather “Markets at Christmas”. ;-)

Cinderella Panto – Ticket Competition

Sunday 06 January – 14:30
Liberty Hall Theatre, 1 Eden Quay, Dublin 1

Tempus Productions is bringing the Cinderella Panto to the Liberty Hall Theatre. There will be 12 performances from 19 December until 06 January and the list of all performances is below. Tickets will be available on www.libertypanto.com and they are prices at EUR 19.50.

And this is what the organisers told me:
“It’s that time of year. Dublin City is rammed, there are fewer choccies left in your advent calendar, and you’ve already lost your granny twice in Arnotts. But, this Christmas, the Liberty Hall Theatre has got its tinsel back. Yep, there’s a panto coming to the Liberty Hall Theatre Dublin 2018. It’s ‘Cinderella’. Praise be to Santa!
Pantomime factory Tempus Productions has splashed out. Their production pulls out all the stops, boasting a star-studded cast this year including John Lovett (Red Rock, The Tudors & Panto Dame extraordinaire) and Eric Lalor (Comedian & Fair City Bad Guy)
But is this a triumphant return to the North-side of the Liffey to one of the best venues in town? You’ll have to wait and see.
Join us this year to see if poor old Cinders will get to the ball. That’s if her two ugly stepsisters Whitney & Britney are not up to their usual tricks. But, with the help of her faithful friend Buttons and the Magical Fairy G, it can only be fantastic.
What more could a panto ask for I hear you say?
Well get your tickets soon for the Fairy Godmother of all pantomimes to find out!
“Where will we go?…to the Liberty Panto! See you there!!!”

And for two Dublin Event Guide reader families there is a super price available: Each winner gets 2 Adult + 2 Children tickets for the performance on Sunday 06 January at 14:30.

To enter the competition, send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with your name and mobile phone number in the body of the mail and with CINDERELLA in the subject line. Your entry has to be with me by 15:00 on 19 December. The winner will be announced on the Dublin Event Guide Facebook page.

Help the Dublin Event Guide! It won’t cost you a cent!

Do you enjoy free events? Does it help you to find out about all these free events simply in one e-mail magazine or on one website? Does the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) deliver all this for you and maybe even more? In that case, you probably also would want it to continue forever, right?

To achieve that some money is needed. Donations are a great help, but not everyone feels they can donate at the moment. So here is the solution: If you could help with a donation without having to pay a cent from your own money wouldn’t that be cool? You can!!

When you buy books online, buy them from Book Depository or from Amazon and use these links to go to the website:

Book Depository
Amazon

And when you buy from Living Social or Groupon use these links:

Groupon
LivingSocial

Or when you buy from eBay or you want to buy holidays or clothes or anything else, check first

www.dublineventguide.com/shop

When you click on the link and then buy, your books/products/holidays etc cost exactly the same as if you went to the website directly. But if you go via the links above, the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) will get 5-8% of what you spend as a commission. That’s not a lot, but if you and lots of other people used that link every time, it would amount to a fair amount of crucially important money. Use the links often, actually EVERY time you buy from the relevant site, not just once!

Giving money for free! That’s how easy it is. ;-) THANK YOU!!!

And if you want to donate money directly, then you can do that here: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm or www.GoFundMe.com/DublinEventGuide

*****************************************************************************

See you!! The last 11.5 years were great!

Yes, that’s it now! After 11.5 years together and 600 editions, the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) is – at least in the current form – reaching you the last time. If you want to stay in touch, come to the Facebook Page at www.fb.comDublinEventGuide where I plan to continue letting you know about events. The long e-mail in its current form will be gone, but every now and then I will still send a mail to all 24,000 subscribers when I come across some good events or worthwhile news. So I won’t be gone completely.

But importantly, after today, there won’t be a weekly long list of free events sent to you anymore and that also means that I can’t post the daily event reminders on Facebook (because I won’t anymore about ALL the events that are happening.). And in case you still used the webapp or maybe even the old iPhone app,, unfortunately that won’t be updated anymore either.

If you want to stay in tocuh with me directly. you will find me here

www.facebook.com/joerg.steegmueller or on
www.linkedin.com/in/joergsteegmueller or on (brand new!)
www.instagram.com/joergsteegmueller/

THANK YOU for the great 11.5 years together. Thank you for all your support and a special thank you to all the people that financially supported the Dublin Event Guide. I didn’t make any money from it, but without your support, I would not have been able to continue! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Now it is off to new adventures and we will probably see each other at some events in Dublin in the future! :-)

Dublin Christmasmarkets Website

To help you and your friends and families find your way around the Christmas Markets in Dublin, I created a few years ago a website at www.DublinChristmasMarkets.com and this website is again updated for 2018, so you can check out there what markets are coming up in the run up to Christmas.

You might know that I am a bit of a Christmas Market purist and am extremely disappointed with what Dublin manages to put together. With that in mind, I would say that most (if not all) of the “Christmas Markets” on that list are actually “Markets at Christmas”, but not real Christmas Markets. But decide for yourself!

And if you wonder which markets I would recommend: I have heard good things about Winterval in Waterford but was never there myself. So the only market that I would definitely recommend is the one in Belfast! :-O

THANKS!!!

Opportunities

The former “Opportunities” section is now the place where the weekly event map from Energia was featured, but this map is now going into hibernation until spring.

Exhibitions

Based on your feedback, I have decided to do the following with the Exhibition section in this newsletter from now on: I will provide you with a link to a near-comprehensive listing of exhibitions provided by www.visualartists.ie . For me to list all exhibitions would only be doubling their good work and would be an inefficient use of my resources. The link is visualartists.ie/whats-on/events-in-leinster-dublin/

On top of that I will every now and then include here a small selection of exhibitions that either are not mentioned in the Visual Artist listing or are note-worthy to be mentioned separately.

Lustre & InFlux

27 Sept – 08 Jan (10:00-17:00)

Farmleigh House, Castleknock end of Phoenix Park, Dublin 15

Lustre & InFlux is an exhibition of innovative work of Ireland’s newest goldsmithing and ceramic graduates of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Centres of Excellence in Jewellery and Goldsmithing and in Ceramics in Kilkenny.

Lustre showcases beautiful pieces designed and made by the most recent graduates of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Centre of Excellence in Jewellery & Goldsmithing, work in gold, silver, platinum and gemstones. A highlight of the exhibition is an exquisite collection of ten Fabergé-style eggs.

InFlux shows the results of two years of training in all aspects of ceramics skills and design at DCCoI’s Centre of Excellence in Ceramics which is based in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. ‘Flux’ in ceramics describes a material that will cause silica, which has a natural melting point of 1700°C, to melt at a lower temperature thus forming ceramic glazes. In general terms, the word ‘flux’ also means continuous change and movement and can be applied to the development of ideas and designs and best describes the diversity of this work.

Admission is free.

Inti macy – Science Gallery Exhibition

12:00 – 18:00, Sat 15 Dec

Science Gallery, Pearse Street, TCD, Dublin 2

The current exhibition in the Science Gallery is called “Inti macy” and it will run from 19 October until 24 February. (You probably see that there is a space in the middle of the exhibition title. That is to trick any spam filter that doesn’t like too private or personal words. In the following text I will use “Personal Connection” as a replacement title.)

The exhibition is looking at Personal Space and Personal Connection. What does it mean to be connected? And what really is connection? Can we connect virtually or does it have to be real?

Some of the most interesting exhibits are:

+ Companion Cat and Robot Flatmate
+ Hello Machine, a phone system for spontaneous conversations with strangers
+ Measure your Personal Space
+ A virtual reality system that allows visitors to experience the world through the eyes and body of another person.

The website below lists all exhibits and provides some explanation so that you can either before or after your visit check further details.

All Science Gallery exhibitions are suitable for ALL ages, even younger children will be able to take part/follow. Some of the exhibits need a bit more of an age-appropriate explanation for younger kids than others, but nearly everything can be simplified for kids.

I strongly suggest to use the help of the amazing mediators, who can explain everything you see, especially if you don’t want to read all the explanations that are next to every exhibit.

The Science Gallery has very visitor friendly opening hours of Tue-Fri 12:00-20:00 and Sat+Sun 12:00-18:00.

Please note: This section contains observations taken from the world I live in that strike me as odd. I express my personal opinion and you might not share it. ;-) If you are easily offended by opinions that are not identical with your own, please don’t read this section and I am VERY serious about that.

Now that the Dublin Event Guide is retiring, you will find my ramblings that were usually in this section at www.joergsteegmueller.com

I am not sure yet how often I will post there, but since I have a bit more time, maybe it will be more often than weekly. You never know. If you are interested in the ramblings check them on that website from now on and today I will just leave this message here and not rant about anything! ;-) Take care!!
