MythFest (03-07 June) invites you to connect with Ireland’s history and mythology and to immerse yourself in the creatures, characters and colours of ancient Irish legend. MythFest will feature 10 new plays inspired by the stories of ancient Irish mythology and folklore. The plays are repeated every day from Wednesday until Sunday.

The Science Gallery exhibition “HOME\SICK – Post-Domestic Bliss” looks at the Home and asks what “Home” really is and also how it could be improved. The word means something different to everyone, but how will the future of technology and design, communities, families, resources, and nations change the nature of what we define as ‘home’?

HOME\SICK is the summer exhibition of the Science Gallery, which usually is the exhibition that is the most accessible and understandable for all ages and that goal was achieved again. It is not the Science Gallery’s best exhibition, but it is still definitely worth a visit.

The exhibition will run from 01 May until 19 July and is open from Tuesday-Sunday (Tues-Fri: 12:00-20:00, Sat+Sun 12:00-18:00). Admission is free.

The Second World War ended in 1945 and commemorate this 70 years later, a historical re-enactment takes place in Collins Barracks.

This is an interactive way of learning about this conflict which ended 70 years ago. Presented by historical re-enactors “The WW2 Club” on Clarke Square.

The well known Palestrina Choir sing every Sunday at the mass in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. They sing complete masterworks by Mozart, Haydn, Dvorak, Palestrina, de Victoria, usually accompanied by Prof. Gerard Gillen on the organ, who often also plays a solo piece.

The next Pure Vintage Fair will take place this week and it is what it says on the tin. A market/flea market for vintage items, which will take place on the first Sunday of every month. There will be vintage clothes, furniture, collectibles, jewellery and many more vintage items. Sounds interesting and with 30 stalls, it is well worth a visit. There will also be food, hot drinks and a DJ.

The Sundays at Noon Concert Series continues in the Sculpture Gallery at the Hugh Lane Gallery. This series of free (mainly classical) concerts continues to present the best of Irish and International music and musicians. Concerts run from September to June.

The one-day interdisciplinary workshop “Master of Misinformation: William Le Queux, Invasion Scares and Spy Fever, 1880-1930” will take place on Tuesday.

It will investigate the life and work of the colourful and controversial popular author, journalist, and amateur spy William Le Queux. The workshop focuses on the phenomenon of British invasion and spy scare fiction and its contribution to the climate of militarism and anxiety that preceded the Great War.

The workshop brings together William Le Queux scholars from around the world with a view to producing an edited collection of essays offering new thoughts/approaches to Le Queux. Speakers include: Michael Hughes (Lancaster), Anthony Taylor (Sheffield Hallam) and Michael Matin (Warren Wilson).

The keynote address will be delivered by Roger Stearn, whose biographical article ‘The Mysterious Mr Le Queux’ is one of the best examinations of Le Queux’s unusual life.

As part of the Summer Rising Festival, the Irish Museum of Modern Art will run two 3-day long workshops for teens. They both run from Tuesday 09 June until 11 June. The 12-15 year olds have theirs at 11:00-13:00 and the older group has the timeslot 14:00-16:00.

The participants will meet artists, explore exhibitions, discuss ideas, and make artworks in the studios: join artist Janine Davidson for an exciting 3-day workshop inspired by the artist Stan Douglas. This workshop will explore history and narrative with analogue and digital technologies, and create with daily outputs to be shared on social media.

“Inspired by Stan Douglas’s play Helen Lawrence (2014) we will make a stage set, with the use of overhead projectors, transparencies, props and perhaps their own bodies. This will set a scene from which we will develop multiple narratives. The narrative will be inspired by the architecture and grounds of the museum. It will also be informed by the IMMA Collection Show Fragments and the current Heritage exhibition which explores the history of the building to the present day. Combining elements from the Past, Present and Future, each person will create a fragment of the story. Our daily events we will be published through social media the aim is to question the traditional model of storytelling, of a beginning middle and end, instead offering variable and diverse outcomes.”

The Military Archives are providing details about the Military Service Pensions Collection (MSPC) at lunchtime talks in Rathmines Library and the last of the lectures will be on 09 June.

The Military Archives provides a vital national resource in the provision of primary source materials relating to the 1916 Easter Rising and the revolutionary period in Ireland.

Project archivists will present a short talk on three consecutive Tuesday lunchtimes providing insight and highlighting some of the most significant findings of the collection.

The last talk will be “Establishing the Free State in conflict, 1922-1924” by Robert McEvoy.

Ireland’s newly-appointed Head of Lobbying Regulation Ms Sherry Perreault will deliver a special lunchtime lecture at the launch of TASC’s new Toolkit to Open Government.

Sherry Perreault will give a talk on the new online registration system for lobbying, which follows the recent enactment of the Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015.

The new system is designed to provide information to the public about who is lobbying whom about what. It is a key element of a series of legal reforms by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform which are designed to open government decisions up to fuller public scrutiny.

Before her talk, Sherry Perreault will formally launch TASC’s new Toolkit to Open Government. This is a set of practical guides that aim to help citizens and organisations to more effectively seek official information, understand and query public decision-making, and promote alternatives.

TASC is the Think-tank Action in Social Change. And these lunchtime lectures are intended to be given while you have your own lunch that you bring to the lecture. Tea and Coffee will be available.

I totally missed the start and I wonder if you did too. Maybe this year the “Temple Bar Night Market” wasn’t advertised that well? Or did I just not see it?

The market struggles a little with being more an afternoon and evening market. From 15:00-20:00 is not really delivering on the name! And in previous years the missing food and drink stalls at the market (probably to protect the pubs and restaurants in Temple Bar) was mentioned by visitors as a limit to the attractiveness of the market.

Until 19 August there will be a Temple Bar AFTERNOON and EVENING Market (let’s not call it a Night Market!! :-) ) every Wednesday with art and crafts.

The “Havana International Language Exchange” is taking place every Wed from 16:30-19:30 in Havana Tapas Bar in George’s Street. The King Kong Club is a weekly music game-show in the Mercantile. Each week 6-7 bands/solo artists play three songs each. At the end of all the performances a clap-off with the King Kong Club Clap-o-Meter takes place and the winner goes through to a semi-final and it all culminates after six months of competition with The Grand Final, held in front of a panel of celebrity judges.

Two books on Seamus Heaney have recently been published in Italy: Paolo Febbraro’s essay “Leggere Seamus Heaney” and Marco Sonzogni’s translation into Italian of “Death of a Naturalist”.
Both Paolo Febbraro and Marco Sonzogni treasure their encounter with Seamus Heaney as a turning point in their lives. So does poet and Rai journalist Luigia Sorrentino. In 2013, in Rome, she did a touching interview with Seamus Heaney which will be shown for the first time in Ireland at this event. This “Italian homage” to Seamus Heaney with readings and interview screening, will be introduced and moderated by Giuliana Adamo (Trinity College Dublin)

The celebration of the life and work of William Butler Yeats continues with the next History Ireland Hedge School:

History Ireland editor Tommy Graham will host a panel discussion on ‘Yeats 150’. The panel will include Catriona Crowe, Head of Special Projects at the National Archives of Ireland; P.J. Mathews, lecturer in the School of English, Drama and Film at UCD; Roy Foster, Carroll Professor of Irish History at the University of Oxford; and poet and writer Theo Dorgan.

youbloom 2015 is a Music Conference and a Music Festival.

The 1-day conference on Saturday is about “How to Succeed as a Music Artist in the new Music Business”. It will take place in the Central Hotel in Exchequer Street and there is an admission charge of EUR 20.

In addition, over the whole weekend, from Friday until Sunday, there will be a vast amount (more than 60!) of bands and acts performing on a Busker Stage and in the Mercantile and Sweeney’s.
