Conor Mary Foy is the 2014 recipient of the Temple Bar Gallery + Studios Recent Graduate Studio Residency. “Ludus” is a multimedia talk by Conor Mary Foy, taking place in his studio and marking the end of his year long residency in TBG+S.

The talk will showcase Conor’s recent work and contextualise it by presenting historical information and found video footage which has had a specific influence on the work.

“On Development, Waste and Ghosts” is a public lecture by Dr Oona Frawley in the Making Ireland Lecture Series.

“‘On Development, Waste and Ghosts’ looks at colonial notions of land development, comparing the ways in which a series of colonial commentaries – on what are now the United States, Australia and Ireland – offers the opportunity to trace attitudes towards landscape and place that in fact function as canny assessments of land-as-commodity. The paper concerns itself with how initial colonial declarations about landscape might have lasting effect in a particular space.”

The book launch of “28 Portuguese Poets”, a bilingual anthology, edited and introduced by Richard Zenith (Dedalus Press, 2015) takes place and everyone is invited.

Edited and introduced by Richard Zenith, with English translations by Zenith and Alexis Levitin, this bilingual anthology introduces the work of 28 Portuguese poets (beginning with Fernando Pessoa) and takes us right up to today, revealing a richly varied body of verse. Editor Richard Zenith and two of the contributing poets, Margarida Vale do Gato and Daniel Jonas will read from and discuss the book.

Some of the most powerful telescopes in Ireland will be set up to give you and your family and friends the chance to view the Moon in spectacular close-up detail and also the Comet Lovejoy. There will also be free posters, back issues of the Astronomy Ireland magazine and great offers. Light refreshments will be served.

Endless Rain, Dun Laoghaire’s free spoken word variety show is back, but has moved. The next edition takes place in Scott’s Pub on Wednesday.

The event will feature many literary and comedic talents, including Roisin Kiberd, Daniel Ayiotis and Dave Hynes. The audience will also have a chance to win ‘fabulous’ prizes by testing their wits in The Pun-ger Games.

The King Kong Club is a weekly music game-show in the Mercantile. Each week 6-7 bands/solo artists play three songs each. At the end of all the performances a clap-off with the King Kong Club Clap-o-Meter takes place and the winner goes through to a semi-final and it all culminates after six months of competition with The Grand Final, held in front of a panel of celebrity judges.
