Event Guide: Festival of World Cultures, Dublin City Triathlon, Heritage Week
Hi all!
Our series of events in the Tivoli is coming to an end and it was a HUGE success. The “warm up” in the first week meant that on a couple of evenings there were a few seats left, but since last weekend ALL shows in the second week were sold out. If you have been there you know what I am talking about and you were one of the 5000 people who were smart enough to book early. If you missed out…tough luck! At least this time. ;-) Cause the show was SOO successful we are already working on some other events and you should watch this space to find our more in the near future.
In the meantime we will return to the normal weekly program for the Event Guide. :-)
As you would expect the number of events is going down a bit now that the summer is coming to an end. Still I will do my best to find as many as possible and to tell you about them even in the autumn and winter months. But for now the “summer” is not over yet!
This weekend sees one of the BEST festivals of every year:
From Friday until Sunday the Festival of World Cultures is on in Dun Laoghaire. www.festivalofworldcultures.com Like every year a huge amount of concerts and events are planned for the weekend in Dun Laoghaire and the best is that all out door concerts (and quite a number of indoor concerts) are free. The weekend is absolutely packed with events and it would be too much to list even a selection here. Have a look at the website! I will definitely be there (Sat: 12:00-18:00 and Sun: 12:00-late) and in case you can make it too, call me on 087-2931571 to meet up. (BTW: There is plenty of public transport, including Late Night buses, but if you need to bring your car: Pay and Display will NOT be enforced in Dun Laoghaire on Sat and Sun – with the exception of the harbour area.)
For sports enthusiasts there is a great event on Saturday: The Dublin City Triathlon will take place from 08:00 until close to 16:00 you can watch the competitors swim for 1.5km in the Liffey, cycle for 40km in Phoenix Park and run for 10km in Phoenix Park as well. 800 (!!) competitors will take part and while I know that Triathlon is not the most popular event for spectators, you should give it a try. www.dublincitytriathlon.com. I will be there until around 11:00 and will then go to Dun Laoghaire. ;-)
The Temple Bar Diversions Festival is coming to a close for this year and there is only a handful more events (Outdoor Cinema at the weekend and music during the week).
“Summer in Dublin” has another week (Saturday!) of the “improvable” Smithfield Summer Markets
The annual Heritage Week starts on Monday and continues until the 2nd of September and on www.heritageweek.ie you can find all the details. If you are interested in history, nature, culture and museums, that is THE week for you (and maybe your children!).
By the way, thanks for people forwarding this Event Guide to their friends and inviting them to join the distribution list. I got a number of requests last week and have added them all to the list. Let me know if you know anybody else who would like to get this mail.
And finally: A number of people have suggested that I publish the Event Guide in a blog or on a website. Well, I am testing this now. I will continue sending it by mail so that you have it at your fingertips before the weekend, but I will post it as well as a blog entry on my “facebook” page. If you are on facebook, just search for “Joerg Steegmueller” (not surprisingly there is only one :-P ). If you are NOT on facebook yet, then be aware that you have to join to see my profile. I think facebook is great (social networking website). The downside is that it can be addictive! ;-)
That’s all for this week! Enjoy the weekend,
–Joerg

Disclaimer: This Event Guide is sent to friends and colleagues of mine to let you know about events (usually free!) in the Greater Dublin Area. I started this because some friends asked me to share my weekend plans with them as I went to all types of festivals and searched for more. ;-) If you don’t want to receive this mail, just let me know. If you have feedback, good or bad, PLEASE tell me. BTW: I have no affiliation with any of the organisers and don’t get any reward from them for advertising their events.
